"The chef (and DJ, yep) behind some of Asia’s best restaurants has finally reopened in Cebu. Enye is for diners who love traditional Spanish food, but don’t want to veer too far from home. (Cebu is where Spain first made contact with the country in the 1500s, hence the longstanding taste bud memory.) Since they’re on the ground floor of a resort hotel, the dining room has a relaxed, convivial energy—upscale enough for date nights, but easygoing enough to banter and enjoy without feeling self-conscious. We like the grilled pulpo with chorizo mashed potato, torched tuna loin, and, predictably, lechon tacos. The wine selection is compact but punchy, spotlighting small-production bottles you won’t find at the neighborhood grocery store. For the best of both worlds, try the sangria roja y blanca, which starts bright and effervescent, then mellows to a slight spice by the time you hit your main course." - Chandra Joshua
