"This small Armenian bakery in East Hollywood doesn’t have a ton of signage (or tables or chairs), and it may take a few laps to find it (look for the massive 99 Cent Store), but once you get there, you’ll be treated to Armenian baked goods with the power to realign your whole week. Beoreks are a few dollars a piece, so loading up a bag is a good idea, but the must-order here is the lahmajune. These warm, round flatbreads are topped with a thin layer of spiced, tomato-y ground beef, and most customers order them by the dozen, with a tart yogurt drink on the side. If you’ve got room, stop by for an Armenian doughnut at nearby Papillon International afterward. Food Rundown Maneishe Put a stack of these fluffy, za’atar-smeated breads in front of us, and they’ll be gone in minutes. When the person behind the counter asks if you want yours warmed, say yes. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Spinach Beorek Don’t underestimate the cheese-less spinach filling in these beoreks. It’s delicious with tart tomatoes and a little sweetness from cooked-down onions. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Lahmajune An all-around great lahmajune. The beef is well-seasoned and moist from its cooked tomatoes, and the flatbread is crispy at the edges but still soft and foldable in the center. One is not enough. photo credit: Jessie Clapp" - Sylvio Martins
