"One If By Land is the quintessential NYC restaurant for capital-R romance. Housed in a beautiful 18th-century building with brick walls, high ceilings, and massive chandeliers, the West Village classic hosts an average of two proposals a week, and many more than that around Valentine’s Day. That said, the food here is forgettable, especially considering the prices ($155 for a three-course prix fixe, or a $185 seven-course tasting), though we do like the beef wellington and the chocolate soufflé. Try not to sit upstairs, where the atmosphere is lacking—see if you can swing a table by the arched windows overlooking the private garden instead." - neha talreja, bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah
