"Lucky Yu is as wholesome as Paul Rudd playing with puppies. The bakery setup is simple: there’s a window ‘hatch’ at the side of baker Hai Lin Leung’s home in Walthamstow, where customers use a step fashioned out of wooden pallets to grab their pre-ordered breads and buns. Leung’s friends drift in and out of the kitchen—with newborn babies and coffees—adding to the homey, community feel. The menu has nods to her Cantonese heritage—sesame soy congee sourdoughs, bo lo bao (pineapple buns), egg and tomato buns—and you’ll have to pre-order over on Lucky Yu’s Instagram page. Everything is great, but the ginger and spring onion focaccia is something special. It’s perfect topped with a gooey egg at home, or just to rip chunks off on your walk to nearby Lloyd Park. photo credit: Jack Hewson" - Sinéad Cranna
