"The people behind a famous brunch place that unfortunately closed in 2020, currently run this cafe and donut shop in Astoria. It’s generally much less crowded than the original (which almost always had a line during brunch), and it’s also a lot more casual. You order at a to-go window, and the majority of the menu involves extravagantly decorated donuts. (There’s also a good biscuit breakfast sandwich as well as daily specials.) If you’re looking for a place to grab something quick or a spot to get a meal with kids, Comfortland is a quality choice. Food Rundown photo credit: Daniel Brennan McGruffin Biscuit Sandwich When you go to Comfortland, get the “McGruffin” biscuit sandwich. It’s so thick you’ll struggle to fit all of its layers in one bite, and the moist buttermilk biscuit is so fluffy and sweet it could be classified as a cupcake. Inside, you’ll find a fried egg, a grilled sausage patty, and a layer of melted cheese — all of which create a combination of sweet and salty flavors that’ll make you wonder why “pastry sandwiches″ don’t have their own tier in the food pyramid. photo credit: Nikko Duren Freaky Friday Big Mac Style Fried Chicken Sandwich Let’s get one thing clear: McDonald’s did a good thing for humanity when it debuted the Big Mac concept. But Comfortland’s take on the classic burger is in a whole different league. The crispy chicken is juicy and tender, and the seeded bun holds its own amongst several layers of melted cheese and creamy special sauce. Order this if you’re here for lunch or dinner. photo credit: Kate Previte Rainbow Cookie Crumb Cake This colorful pastry has been one of the most popular items at Comfortland for years. That’s probably because the Rainbow Cookie Crumb Cake could teach a masterclass on complementary textures and flavors. It tastes like a raspberry and an almond had a baby then topped that baby off with the crumbs from the bottom of a Chips Ahoy bag. You’ll want to finish your meal with this (and possibly order a second one to snack on later)." - Team Infatuation
