"If you’re at 88 Marketplace in Chinatown and want to avoid hunger-fueled impulse purchases, check out Ying Dim Sum. This stall inside the grocery store’s food court has a shorter menu than many brick-and-mortar spots in the city, but there’s a variety of tasty dishes. Some of our favorites are the plump siu mai, the crispy fried shrimp and corn dumplings, or the Taishan dumplings with chewy wrappers. And if your shopping day happens to be Saturday, that’s the only time they make their tasty mochi filled with red bean or durian. Food Rundown Siu Mai These chunky dumplings are full of tasty minced shrimp and pork. Do future you a favor and get two orders. photo credit: John Ringor Taishan Dumplings Apparently, you can’t go wrong with the one-two-punch of shrimp and pork at Ying Dim Sum because these are great, too. The clear wrapper has a pleasantly gummy texture. photo credit: John Ringor Shrimp and Corn Dumplings When it comes to fried stuff on the menu, these are our favorite. The patty-shaped dumplings have an excellent crispiness that complements the shrimp and corn inside. photo credit: John Ringor Durian Mochi These are great if you already like durian’s sweet custardy flavor and savory meatiness. The fruit chunks get added texture from the chewy mochi surrounding them. photo credit: John Ringor" - John Ringor
