Mashita Galbi Jjim

Asian restaurant · Polk Gulch

"Go to this laid-back spot in Russian Hill for one simple reason: big, bubbling bowls of galbi jjim. The restaurant doesn’t take reservations, but there’s usually not a wait, so you still won’t have to pass the time by doom-scrolling for hours if you show up at 6pm (unlike at some places—we’re looking at you Daeho). For $66, you get a massive galbi jjim fully loaded with three metric tons of braised short ribs, more carrots than you know what to do with, tteokbokki that look like they’ve been inflated to balloon size, and a gooey cheese topping that’s melted via blowtorch. One order could easily feed four people. Everything else on the menu feels unnecessary except for the plump mandu, which you can get if the galbi jjim somehow isn't enough." - julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez
