Bomb Biscuit - Review - Old Fourth Ward - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"There are five central ingredients to any good biscuit: flour, baking powder, salt, shortening, and milk. Pretty straightforward. But if you’ve been out to eat any time before 10am, you know that everybody ain’t reading from the same recipe. Some folks need to leave the kneading alone. Others do decently, but you can tell they’re forgetting to add some love. That’s never the case at Bomb Biscuit, Atlanta’s best new option for a simple, sensational breakfast. photo credit: Amy Sinclair photo credit: Amy Sinclair photo credit: Amy Sinclair Bomb Biscuit started as a pop-up back in 2016. A well-received meal led to a successful catering event and eventually to the Old Fourth Ward situation that families and folks walking their dogs line up for today. The butter-colored dining room offers a row of wood tables and chairs on one side and a semi-open kitchen on the other. It’s cute and charming—like a small-town café. The back is slightly more festive, with a mimosa-pouring bar and a patio overlooking the busy Freedom Park Trail. On weekends the place is packed, so expect the typical brunch wait. Yet for those days you leave your patience at home, there’s a takeout operation next door, too. When it’s time to order, the biscuits, of course, are the stars. You’ll find sweet ones, savory ones, and a few fluffy ones like the honey-drizzled Glori-Fried chicken biscuit that can’t make up their minds. But contrary to what the signage says out front, other breakfast standards are prepared with care here as well. Try the eggs, the commendable waffle, or even the gooey cinnamon roll. It's a relatively simple menu full of complex decisions. And we can’t think of a better way to start off the morning. Food Rundown photo credit: Amy Sinclair Lemon Pepper Chicken Biscuit Bomb Biscuit’s nod to the city is a thigh dipped in buttermilk and tossed in an ATLien-approved lemon pepper seasoning. It’s then caressed by a thick buttermilk biscuit. The buttery bite nearly melts in your mouth before you can say, “Let me get another one of those, shawty. Hot Honey Chicken Biscuit If you’re feeling a little spicy, try this chicken topped with pickles and dipped in this housemade sweet and spicy sauce. The hot honey isn’t alarming, but if you’re looking for a lil’ sumthin’ that’s non-caffeinated to get you out of your AM funk, this is it. photo credit: Amy Sinclair Maple Butter Chicken-N-Waffles You’ve been places so confident in their food’s flavor that they don’t have salt and pepper at the tables, right? Well, this spot is so sure you won’t need any syrup on its already sweet, buttery waffle they don’t automatically give you any. And wouldn’t you know it—they’re right. Uncle Bobby’s Breakfast Everybody’s salmon croquet is different. Here, we appreciate the thickness, the firm crust, and remoulade dipping sauce on the two patties highlighting this packed plate (eggs and grits are included, too). OG Cinna-Bun Even when we’re already stuffed, we will eat half of this cream cheese-topped treat right after breakfast (save the judgment). And some hours later, we’ll re-discover the other half in the container on our backseat. Both instances are always richly fulfilling." - DeMarco Williams
