"Schmuck comes from the duo who ran Barcelona’s Two Shmucks—one of those bars that makes it on global must-visit lists—but their East Village bar is more of a relaxed living room than a European party destination. Here, you sink into a plush leather love seat while a server asks you how you’re doing, listens carefully, and then recommends a drink accordingly. The Larb Gai, a peanut-forward cognac cocktail, turns out to be just as reviving after a long, over-social day as they promise, and at $19, it also feels like a welcome break from relentless drink-flation. Given the hype around Schmuck, you’ll need a reservation, or to line up half an hour before they open. But the effort is worth it for a date or double date, fueled by martinis that comes with a dropper of olive oil, a buttered paloma we’re bookmarking for summer. Throw in some snacks like cacio e pepe beans and chocolate mousse, and they've got a great little house party going. photo credit: schmuck photo credit: schmuck" - Will Hartman
