French Roast

French restaurant · Upper West Side

"Open since 1995, French Roast is neither trendy nor exceptional. It is, however, an unpretentious spot where you can eat straightforward French food alongside a crowd of people who’ve lived in the neighborhood for several decades. And that’s why we like this place. The room has worn tile floors, burgundy banquettes, and lots of vintage knickknacks, and there’s a TV in the corner that might be playing Law & Order when you stop by. Sit at the bar and order the house burger that comes with a thick, nicely-charred patty, or swing by for the daily brunch and hang out for an hour or two while you chat with a friend." - Bryan Kim
