London’s Oldest Pubs, Ranked By Dubious Historical Claims - London - The Infatuation

"Ye Olde Factor: A creaky coaching inn with a courtyard that’s often mobbed, the George is the kind of pub where a toothless man would try and trade his shoes and daughter for your horse, back in the day. Its location down an alley between London Bridge and Borough feels improbable in modern times, but during the Elizabethan era this was a big outdoor performance space. Word is that big Willy Shakespeare may have even enjoyed a pint here. Alleged Notable Regulars: Shakespeare (maybe) and Princess Margaret was a fan of a lock-in here (allegedly). Needless to say, Dickens was a fan, and it was referenced in Little Dorrit and Our Mutual Friend." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, sinead cranna
