Koli’s Bar & Restaurant - Review - Walthamstow - London - The Infatuation

"Koli’s is the kind of restaurant everyone wants on their street. Puppies and people are greeted by name at this Greek spot, the former are scratched, the latter are shown to plastic chairs with a smile. The same friendly waiter who told you he’s “allergic to small portions” carries a Tudor feast of a gyros plate to a family whose children stop running around and replace the crayon they were gnawing on with a perfectly seasoned chip. And a steady rotation of Walthamstow locals traipse in for the sort of night where leggings are acceptable, good service is guaranteed, and so is spotting someone you see in the Incoming Coffee queue every Saturday morning. The family running Koli’s are feeders, so expect hearty, comforting plates—from a Mediterranean breakfast in the morning to koftes and veggie burgers in the evening. Some of the meat could be more tender, but on the whole dishes from this affable neighbourhood spot are tasty and it’s worth dropping by for a big plate and big, mood-boosting feelings. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute Food Rundown Grilled Halloumi Charred slabs of soft cheese are always a good thing. These ones come with a scattering of oregano on top just to remind you that this is, in fact, a restaurant, despite the fact that we greedily throw this halloumi back like we’re on our sofa at home. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Tirokafteri Creamy, with a good hot pepper kick. The flavour is lovely, we just wish this dip wasn’t quite so runny so it could coat our pitta a bit better. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Hummus With Pitta The pitta is pleasingly puffy but the hummus is really tasty, with a healthy drizzle of oil making it especially rich and silky. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Koli’s Mixed Grill For Two Our go-to dish at Koli’s and the one that screams “let’s not do dishes tonight”. This overflowing plate comes with smoky chicken and pork from the spit, more pitta than two people could ever feasibly eat, lamb chops that were a little dry, and chicken, lamb, and pork skewers—the juicy, fatty pork is our favourite. Oh, and a memory foam mattress of fluffy fries that all the meat juices soak into. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Sinéad Cranna
