"I found Longwood one of the most interesting homes in Natchez: its stunning grounds and a huge onion-shaped dome make it entirely unique as the largest octagonal house in the United States. Construction began in 1859 but the owner died before most of it was completed, leaving the entire upper floor unfinished after the Civil War halted work, so only a handful of rooms are finished today.
