"Portobello beach is Edinburgh’s only beach. Located 2 miles east of the city centre, it is a sandy beach with spectacular views over the Forth to Fife and beyond. Popular with locals and tourists alike, it’s rare to find the promenade and beach deserted. During the summer Porty beach been likened to the beaches of Spain with visitors swimming, rolling in the waves, and sunbathing. Kayaking and sailing are also popular and beach volleyball games are played near the swimming pool entrance. Many dog walkers, runners, and cyclists can be found on the promenade which runs parallel to the beach and continues on to Seaview Terrace which leads through Joppa and nearby Musselburgh." - Sarah Wardlaw
