Central to the Kattenstoet, or ‘festival of the cats’, this historic tower in Ypres is tied to a darker past when cats, associated with witchcraft, were thrown from its height; today its grim history is reimagined in a much more playful way, as giant cat puppets, costumes and plush cat toys are paraded through town to celebrate felines instead. - Liv Kelly
