Set within the Parc de la Villette as part of the City of Science and Industry, this 36-metre shimmering mirrored sphere is an architectural marvel that has just reopened after six years of work to upgrade the cinematic experience. From the outside, Adrien Fainsilber’s globe, equivalent in height to a 12-storey building and composed of 6,433 polished stainless steel triangles, looks unchanged, but inside the giant 1,000 m² hemispherical screen has been fitted with a brand-new IMAX Laser 4K projector for significantly improved image quality, along with upgraded IMAX 6.0 sound. Now operated by Pathé and placed in the premium category of its theatres, it offers a unique experience in France, with feature film tickets at €25 and documentaries at €13, and a buy-one-get-one-free deal on tickets to mark the reopening. The programme currently includes three nature documentaries – Blue Whales, T.REX, and Super Human Body – with multiple daytime screenings, as well as the highly anticipated animated film Mufasa: The Lion King in a single evening slot. - Olivia Simpson
