"This legendary assam laksa is a bold, piquant bowl of mackerel-stewed broth brightened with tamarind and thick sweet prawn paste (hae ko), piled over thick rice noodles and topped with cucumber slivers, pineapple bits, mint and shredded ginger. Located about a 25-minute drive out of town near Kek Lok Si, the stall has been simmering its lemongrass‑punch broth for around 70 years; come later in the day for a more concentrated stock as bowls are ladled out in quick succession to devotees and visiting foodies." - SilverKris
