"Every InterContinental hotel is a big deal, but the InterContinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu has more personality than most, set as it is in a splendid 17th-century hospital building. Its architecture remains intact, and its interiors, by Jean-Philippe Nuel, bring it stylishly into the modern luxury-hotel era — its rooms and suites are spacious, immaculately well-equipped, and designed with uncommon contemporary panache. The location, just above the Old Port, is both central and full of character, and there’s a Clarins spa with a pair of swimming pools.
