The 21 Best Restaurants In Marseille - Marseille - The Infatuation

"Sepia and its outdoor tapas bar, Julis, have the most peaceful, green setting inside hilltop Parc Pierre Puget, plus views of the cityscape and a little slice of the Med. Lunch at Sepia is a la carte, with mains from €23 and a three-course dinner (€57) of things like pork shoulder with black rice and wild leeks or a fish tartare. Julis is more accessible and its menu a bit more global, with small plate options like grilled sardines with brûléed oranges and chimichurri, or chicken teriyaki with figs and pickled shiitakes. Come for sunset cocktails, like a zingy ginger julep or a mezcal negroni. Reservations are recommended for Sepia, but you can walk in at Julis." - sophie friedman

"This little eatery near the beach is perfect for lunch. It is run by a pair of catering pros – she is in the dining room while her hubbie, who boasts stints in fine restaurants, helms the kitchen. Whether in the dining space with its maritime decor, or on the lovely timber-decked terrace, you will sample vibrant, legible food that warms the soul: tartare of sea bream fished off the coast of Valras; pollock, aioli and black rice; creamy coconut and pineapple marinated in ginger." - Michelin Inspector

Sépia

"This guinguette perched on the Colline Puget promises an incredible view of the city and the sea as well as a colourful dining experience. In the kitchen, the chef's go-to ingredient is seafood, but he also likes to combine fish with a meat sauce (or vice versa), in dishes such as yellowtail with Albufera-style sauce. Next door is Julis – their offshoot wine and tapas bar, which is very popular with locals from the Saint-Victor and Endoume neighbourhoods for after-work drinks." - Michelin Inspector

The 21 Essential Marseille Restaurants

"After cooking at several Alain Ducasse restaurants in Paris, chef Paul Langlère moved to Marseille and set up shop in a charming bungalow surrounded by a garden with great views over the city. His brief lunch menu changes daily, and his dinner menu every few weeks, so that he can follow the seasons and cook with the best local produce. Past dishes have included oysters from the nearby Camargue with apple, mint, and ginger; gravlax with passionfruit and citrus; duck with Jerusalem artichoke puree, roasted salsify, hazelnuts, and dates; and roasted lamb shoulder with oyster mushrooms en persillade." - Alexander Lobrano

We booked sepia as we found a lot of positives reviews online and by looking at Google reviews we've seen there were plenty of meat or vegetarian options in the menu because I don't eat fish but my husband does and so I didn't want to deny him of an amazing fish experience which he did have at Sepia. However this time there was only one meat option in the menu, so not much choice for me and we've asked the waiter for vegetarian options but there was only one and he didn't even try to understand any of my needs which seemed a bit uncaring. Regardless the food was still good, but the service is very slow.

Beautiful place to watch the sunset, but the inside of the restaurant is too hot. Food was made with a lot of care, and all fresh and innovative. The front of the house is heavily understaffed. Trying to manage the outside terrace and inside of the restaurant can be a bit too much. Especially when waiting for food. Try to book in advance and outside sitting.

Mixed opinions about this place because it has the potential to be great. The starters were honestly tasteless, really lacking in any flavour despite them being nicely presented. The mains were very good, both the tuna and monkfish were cooked perfectly and were quite filling. Dessert was also good but nothing over the top. Cocktails were very good. Overall, very very overpriced for what it is. Service started off great, the staff are very friendly but after our main course we were forgotten about for quite some time before trying hard to get a servers attention for the dessert menu, everything came with a delay from then onwards including the check, I guess because they were near closing time but for a total of 140 euros for the meal, not great.

We came there for lunch during our family vacation, looking for good food and a nice atmosphere. In some ways, we got that, but a few things left us very frustrated. First, I don’t understand why the restaurant is called Sepia if the menu has such a poor selection of fish. Second, the staff was extremely unprofessional. For a restaurant listed in the Michelin Guide, being so inattentive to customers is unacceptable. They brought bread long after serving the main dish, and it looked like leftovers. Since we were with a child, it would have been nice if they had at least brought him a proper piece of bread—something you’d expect from a place with such ambitions. Some waiters seemed like they didn’t care at all and had no training to work in a restaurant. For us, the whole experience was more disappointing than enjoyable.

This is good food, not boring, and they are having fun. Perfect sunset. If you decide to walk, pay attention to elevation. This is a cool place.

The site is absolutely fabulous, situated at the top of the hill with a view overlooking the sea, perfect for enjoying the sunset while having your meal. The staff is extremely friendly and takes great care of you. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t great despite the appealing menu. I might come back for a drink and some tapas at the bar, as they have a different menu, but I wouldn’t return to the restaurant because I felt it was overpriced for the quality served on the plate.

Fab view, super, quasi-rustic food beautifully prepared, and wines. Excellent staff. A winner overlooking the bay of Marseille not far below Notre Dame

Loved every minute! Most people opted to sit on the patio, but we opted for a seat indoors. Still had lots of breeze and the views were great. I would not recommend getting to this place by foot as it is located close to the cathedral which is a high point in the city. Also if you’re afraid of heights - have courage when walking over the bridge to the restaurant 🍀 The staff were friendly and the food was amazing. Eggplant dish was to die for. The fraise was my favourite dessert 💗
