"Lyonnais have gladly made the short trip to Charbonnières-les-Bains for generations — ever since the town’s priest discovered its iron-rich mineral springs in the late 18th century, prompting the construction of a spa resort. The old thermal baths are gone now, but the area’s most luxurious hotel still offers many of the same features that have traditionally drawn visitors from the big city: lush landscapes, peace and quiet, and relaxation by the water. Le Pavillon, part of the upscale Partouche Hotels collection, is set on a wooded estate beside the Domaine de Lacroix-Laval with its 16th-century château and English-style gardens.
