"This 1934 hotel became Japan's first government-approved accommodation for international visitors. American baseball legends including Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig stayed here during their 1934 exhibition tour, occupying specific rooms still referenced today. The building stands on a hill overlooking Mikawa Bay, its white walls topped with green copper Japanese-style roofing meant to evoke castle architecture. Art Deco elements are preserved with the lobby's chandeliers and elevator details. Views extend toward Takeshima Island across the water. Rokkakudo, a hexagonal annex from 1936, and a 1916 wooden structure in sukiya-shoin style remain on the grounds as conserved cultural properties." - Tablet Hotels
