"I learned that participants in African Bush Camps’ Female Guide Program undergo practical and theoretical in-class training at the African Guide Academy before beginning on-the-job rotations at various ABC camps; they also learn additional skills like mokoro guiding and walk guiding as part of a two-year training and internship designed to graduate 25 female guides by 2025. Launched in 2021 by the ABC foundation founded by Beks Ndlovu, the program selects five applicants each year (no experience required but applicants must have finished grade 12, speak English, and be able to drive) and has seen demand surge from 90 applicants in its first year to more than 200 recently, underscoring both the need for and enthusiasm about creating career pathways for women in the safari industry." - Sandra MacGregor
