"Operated by Dawn and Cassius Spears, the farm preserves traditional Narragansett agriculture—growing historic flint corn, succotash beans, squash, and “wuttahimneash” (heart berries)—and demonstrates time-honored techniques like hilling, in which corn is planted on mounds with beans and squash in the surrounding valleys to improve germination. The property offers tours and a chance to see a wetu (traditional home), providing visitors with hands-on insight into seasonal foodways and living cultural practices such as Strawberry, Green Bean, and Green Corn Thanksgivings." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists.
