"Last week at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the reopening of The Pridwin, Shelter Island locals let out a sigh of relief. For 95 years, the waterfront resort nestled along Crescent Beach overlooking the Peconic Bay has been a cradle of rich history and community. When they embarked on the property’s modernization, they were focused on honoring the historic integrity of the resort. In this spirit, they found an ideal partner in Cape Resorts, which has overseen the refurbishment of various vintage hotels including Cape May’s Congress Hall. “There’s plenty of people that would love for this to be one of those flash-in-the-pan, crazy Montauk-y places, but the Petrys were very committed to respecting the island,” says Curtis Bashaw, managing partner of Cape Resorts. “So many of Shelter Island’s historic hotels have been lost to time, torn down. What’s intrinsically lovely about The Pridwin is that it’s come back to being itself.”" - Lauren Valenti
