15 Essential Restaurants Near Downtown Knoxville

"If you’ve had enough of your own pandemic sourdough attempts to last a lifetime, taste how the pros at A Dopo Sourdough Pizza do it for their chewy, Neapolitan-style pies. Situated just outside of the Old City, the lively wood-fired pizzeria features fresh sauces topped with Calabrese salami, 16-month-aged prosciutto, roasted mushrooms, and local honey alongside creative house-made gelato flavors and an extensive Italian wine and beer list." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones, Kellie Walton

Visiting from Chicago, this pizza was pretty good. Loved the crust taste and softness, but the middle parts of our pizza on the Sofia and pizzicletta was a bit floppy and wet. The calabrese was my favorite, the chili oil was such a nice added touch. The service was excellent and server was so friendly. The arugula salad was so delicious and we loved the homemade gelatos (pistachio and fruity pebble) For Knoxville, definitely one of the best pizza options.

I love the vibe in here and always enjoy the pizza when i come. It is hot and fresh and I enjoy the unique flavor pairings they come up with seasonally. the best way to do it is a trust call which comes with pizza, wine, an appetizer, and gelato. Reservations aren’t always easy to come by so keep your eyes peeled!

We dined with 3 of us and did the trustfall and it was delicious! The waitress knew exactly what to get and gave my friends a wonderful experience as they were visiting from Seattle! It was a wonderful experience.

Google
Get Reservations!!!! Absolutely one of the best. If your use to americanized overly cheesed pizzas this might not be for you. But the sourdough crust and quality of toppings gives you an experience that won’t disappoint Had the sourdough and olive oil starter and it was literally the lightest smoothest oil!! The Margherita pizza with ezzo pepperoni was a simple yet fantastic pizza. Oh…..and Morgan was an SUPERB server!!!

We stopped here when passing through on business. We called ahead and were only able to get a reservation for a bar top table. Although I'm not a fan of sitting at a narrow counter facing a wall, the food and service were worth it. Laura was our server & did a phenomenal job explaining the menu and making suggestions. We had the Pizzicletta and it quickly became a new favorite; the lemon, salty prosciutto, & arugula create an amazing combination of flavors. We also had the Marinara Pizza Rosa with sliced garlic, yum, we added ripped house-made mozz to it. I personally prefer crispy crust but this soft sourdough crust with crispy edges is pretty amazing. We started with an order of toasted sourdough with olive oil & some Calabrian peppers, delicious. Then on to dessert, small batch homemade gelato. We tried the lemon olive oil (amazing), peanut butter chocolate chip, and the salted caramel. They were small perfect sized portions. The ambiance and atmosphere were incredible, from the lighting, use of space, and even the candle burning in the bathroom. Can't wait to come back and try other items.

Google
Not only is A Dopo hands down the best pizza I've ever had, but they offer vegan cheese that melts very well (which I so appreciate, having a severe dairy intolerance)! The crust is perfection. PERFECTION. Slightly charred on the outside and light and chewy on the inside. And the toppings are not too heavy, but just right. I recommend making reservations — even a month in advance for a weekend.

Google
I have had pizza all over the world, including at Michelin and Worlds Top 50 and I’d put adopo in contention. A Dopo is hands down one of the best spots in Knoxville for wood-fired sourdough pizza, and their Mushroom and ’Nduja pizza is a standout. The balance of flavors on this pie is absolutely perfect. The richness of the mushrooms brings a deep, earthy umami that pairs beautifully with the spicy, spreadable ’nduja, which adds just the right amount of heat without overpowering. Combined with their signature sourdough crust—crispy on the outside, soft and airy inside—this pizza is an absolute must-try.

A Slice of Heaven, Even To-Go! After a long, tough day of meetings and watching my stocks tank, all I wanted was some incredible pizza. I had a 5 PM reservation, but completely spaced on confirming it. Of course, this place is legendary for a reason, and they were packed to the brim! There wasn't a single chair available. However, the amazing staff, true professionals as always, came up with a brilliant solution: "A dopo to-go!" I happily brought home some of their New York-style pies, which were pure heaven on earth. Even though I was a bit cranky and probably not the easiest customer, the team handled it with grace and their usual top-notch service. Shame on me for being a "douche," and massive kudos to the original pizza place in Knoxville. You guys are a real gem!

Yelp
I went to Knoxville for a race recently and got carb-loaded at this restaurant the day before my race. Everything was amazing, from service to my pizza to my salad! No wonder it is one of the best 50 National pizza restaurants! Their sourdough pizza dough was so airy. The tomato sauce was so rich in flavor. The salad was packed with fresh herbs, had a great variety of elements and was so creative. The price was quite reasonable. I also like the vibe--lots of people chatting happily (and loudly)--perhaps not suitable for someone who is looking for a quite place. A must try restaurant if you are traveling to Knoxville!

Yelp
Visited after Fantasy of Trees tonight. The pizza did taste fresh, you could tell the ingredients were of quality, however, the crust was quite dark on two out of three of our pizzas - when I say dark, I really mean black and burnt spotted throughout. We ordered a margarita pizza with extra mozzarella to cover it, kids cheese pizza, and a pepperoni and sausage pizza. The pizzas were good, just the wood fired crust with all the blackened parts I didn't love. If it was just toasted and not charred I would definitely have given them 5 stars. The gelato on the other hand was amazing. We got chocolate, peanut butter, and chocolate chip. It was looked delicious and was decently priced. I'd try it again if I could get on the wait list, otherwise I the wait is too long. The tables are communal style and you have other groups sitting with you.

Yelp
Place was ok for ambiance, even on a holiday night, appeared clean. Service was very slow being seated especially with a lot of empty tables, that remained empty even after I left. Service once seated was ok. Toppings have left the chat, it's like they went to Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers at the same time, if I didn't know what I ordered I would be confused as to what arrived on the pizza. The dough however is the saving grace, really the only good thing. If they sold the dough alone I would take it home and make my own pizza.

Yelp
My party of five had an awesome meal at A Dopo last night. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and portion sizes, helping us order just the right amount for our group. Two salads and three pizzas shared between all five of us was perfect and left room for gelato. We ordered the Marguerita, Calabresse, and Funghi pizzas and loved all three. Strongly recommend getting reservations. We saw lots of people being turned away at the door.

Yelp
A city favorite, and it did not miss! I enjoyed the Calabrese pizza that I got. I made a reservation for a high table since I was solo and it was last minute, but I could obtain regular seating because I got lucky and some people did not show up. The Calabrese was a personal pizza, but it could easily have been two meals. However, it was so delicious and fresh that I just ate it all! It was easy to substitute some items, and the waitress informed me about the option. So, I enjoyed both the food and the service. Since I was too full from the pizza, I did not order gelato as I originally wanted to. But there will be a next time!

Yelp
A Dopo has really good reviews so I was so excited to eat here! They have a ton of seating because there is a front room and a back room, both decorated with cute art. They hand make all of the pizzas in a pizza oven as you order them. Be prepared to wait a little bit, but it honestly didn't take that long, and it is totally worth it! On the menu, it says order one pizza per person, or two pizzas for three people, making me think these pizzas were going to be tiny! And they were not! I could have easily shared this pizza with my friend, as it comes with six slices. They have a few veggie options to choose from, but you could also build your own pizza if you wanted. They had an extensive wine list. We had the house wine and it was great with the pizza. I ended up splitting two pizzas with my friend - the spicy greens and the special of the week. The special was SO GOOD! It was by far my favorite pizza. It was a white pizza with corn, goat cheese, onions, basil, garlic. It was full of flavor and veggies, and the goat cheese was the perfect touch. The spicy greens pizza was also really good. The lemon balanced out the bitter of the kale perfectly. Also, these crusts were so so so good. Of course, we couldn't leave without trying the gelato. I had the sweet corn which everyone thought would be weird but ended up being my favorite flavor. It wasn't overly sweet but the cream and corn flavor came through perfectly. I highly recommend checking this place out! But make sure you have a reservation, and book it in advance! People were already lined up at 5 pm waiting to get inside.

Yelp
This is officially our favorite spot in Knox. Not only do they have the best pizza we've tried, but arguably the best local food and service in general. We arrived about 30 minutes early to a crowd gathering outside waiting for the doors to open. We thought (erroneously) that there may be a bar to grab a drink before our reservation but they were able to seat us immediately. Yes, it is a popular and busy spot, but there are a deceivingly large amount of seats, too. We were so lucky to have the sweet and helpful Mariah as our server. We were definitely in good hands after we ordered the Trust Fall for 2, which comes with a bottle of wine, appetizer, 2 pizzas, and gelato...all curated by your server. Mariah asked a few questions about wine preferences and any allergies but other than that, she got creative with our meal. In addition to a wine, she brought: -Ovoline app (crostini with an olive oil mixture and buffalo moz). -Sopprassata (she added honey hot drizzle and peppers). -Pizzicletta -Blueberry creamsicle/pistachio mix gelato I love that they served us both a white sauce and red sauce pizza. My husband even liked the white pizza, which is a rarity for him. If you're like me and don't usually care for wood-fired pizza, please still try this place. It changed my mind. So dang good. We truly loved every part of this experience. If I am nitpicking, the blueberry gelato was not our favorite but it was clearly homemade and well made. Note-make sure you turn the padlock in the bathroom (not just the typical lock button on the handle). I had not one, but two people walk in during my short bathroom adventure. It made me glad that I was too loopy from the bottle of wine to care in the moment. Haha!

Yelp
The service was fantastic she was so amazing and sweet. The gelato was SOOOOO good. I have to come back to get some again. The pizza was alright to me. Don't get me wrong the pizza was fresh but it just was a little floppy and soft. I would have wanted more crispy.

Yelp
A Dopo came highly recommended to us, while on a trip to Knoxville, and I definitely agree that it might be the best pizza that I've ever had. It is a really cute restaurant, and we didn't know about it ahead of our trip so we weren't able to make a reservation. We showed up right when they opened, and they told us they could see us as long as we were out within an hour and a half. We are lucky to have been able to eat there! The pizza was incredible. The dough was so delicious. Our server, wonderful, and recommended the Italian hard soda to drink, which I now am in love with! A must try in Knoxville.

Yelp
An amazing pizza! We didn't have a reservation but we were able to walk in right away when they opened. The place filled up quickly but the service was still amazing throughout the time I was there. I ordered the soppressata pizza which comes with their red sauce, mozzarella cheese, salami, and basil. A very light and airy pizza with an incredible crust. An excellent ratio of ingredients on the pizza. It was so good, we had to order a Margherita pizza to go for later. I would definitely come back here again!

Yelp
This was our first visit to Knoxville and it was very unplanned. We had a whole day planned in gatlinburg but the wind canceled all of it. We decided to visit Knoxville and while deciding what to do and eat, Adopo popped up on my yelp. Like most restaurants in Tennessee they are open from 5:30-9:30pm. We didn't have a reservation but we were able to come back in a hour. The inside is so romantic and such a nice date night spot. We started with the Ovoline appetizer. The spices they put on the mozzarella and the olive oil is just so addicting. The basil and pistachio Pistou made it the best appetizer they have. For our pizzas we decided on the Margarita and the Sofia. This was our first time trying sourdough pizza. It was definitely different than regular pizza crust. But it worked great with the combos of sauces, cheese and the different toppings. Everything tasted super fresh and we definitely recommend for a first time to Knoxville.

Yelp
We got a takeout order because we did not know you had to make reservations weeks ahead. When I picked up my pizza everyone was great so plan ahead. The pizza is really good, even though their takeout crust is different than the sourdough, I would come back for takeout again. The crust on their pizza is EPIC! My wife didn't love the pepperoni (a bit spicy for her) but their takeout crust was thin and chewy. We also got an order of their bread: the dipping oil was OK (I think the bread was better without it). I would save my calories and get 2 pizzas. Ambiance seemed cool in the place. Lots of happy people eating pizza; I wouldn't expect anything different.

Yelp
468 reviewsq with a 5 star average? I had to try this sourdough pizza. It didn't disappoint. The best crust I've ever had. I could just eat that and not even with any oil or range. It's terrific crust. We got a veggie and a ham pie and the ham was the best by far. The sweet honey would hit and surprise. The ham was flavorful. The cheese was particularly standout-worthy. The veggie was ok. It was spicy too. Kale on pizza is surprisingly tasty.

Yelp
Tried this on a recommendation and so glad we did. Ordered take out to eat at Xul down the street. Quick service (when you order ahead). We tried the pepperoni pizza and sourdough bread knots. The pizza has a NY-style chew to the crust that's so delicious. Hope to come back and dine inside but heard you need reservations at least a month in advance.

Yelp
A dopo serves oven fired sourdough thin crust pizza. The pizza oven is unique and prominently featured in the open kitchen. The menu is on the smaller side, but the dishes are excellent. They offer white base and red base pizzas. The margarita pizza is excellent. The pizza with spicy salami is also really good; it has a nice spice to it. The pizza are probably 12ish inches. They have gelato specials listed and it's also good. It's served in small dishes; a perfect amount after a pizza. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side with many 2 person tables. There are a few four person tables and fewer for larger parties. The staff is friendly and the food is hot and fresh and comes out at a nice pace. Make a reservation as the restaurant gets busy.

Yelp
What a fantastic meal. The place was packed; the efficient staff got me seated ahead of schedule. I ordered a Sofia and a quartino (1/4L) the house red....it was tasty. No, I don't ask the brand. Didn't care; it was good, and I didn't want to be "that guy". The Sofia features 'Nduja, a spicy sausage hailing from Africa. Closest familiar comparison I can make is chorizo. The pizza was thin, baked perfectly. I polished dinner off with another quartino of red and dark chocolate gelato. Don't be judgin'. I'll be headed back when back in town.

Yelp
A Dopo was recommended to us by a native Knoxvillian. We were visiting for the weekend. This place is just beautiful. Wood fired Italian oven. Excellent service. Beautiful communal dining if you like. We did. We started with the hand pulled mozzarella and fresh bread. We ordered two pizzas. One red. One white. I also had a glass of red table wine. Perfect with the pizza. We would return. We highly recommend this restaurant. It's worth the wait.

Very cozy and intimate atmosphere. -Dinner only, but takeout is offered. -Reservations are strongly recommended.

Yelp
We were exploring Knoxville and looked up best places to eat and happened to land near A Dopo. Was so excited to find great reviews that we were willing to take an 8 o'clock reservation despite a 2 hr drive. It was a cold night so after reconsidering the reservation we ordered Togo and waited in the parking lot. No text or call to say it was ready. After waiting for 15 min past quoted time we went in. Pizza was cold, crust was soggy in the middle and burnt on top and bottom. They do not clean the surface of their oven enough as it was charred flour which left a bitter taste. Very disappointed!
google avatar

Teresa H.

Yelp
Wow. A Dopo is truly incredible. My husband and I are not huge eaters and happily shared one pizza although I did notice most diners did seem to go with personal pizzas. The crust is perfectly crisp but a little chewy at the same time- yum. We also shared a gelato and each had a beer and the tab was under $40- an absolute steal!
google avatar

Erin G.

Yelp
Every time I asked Knoxville natives for a restaurant recommendation the consensus was A Dopo. I was warned that it might be tough getting a table on the weekend. This upscale Italian Pizza restaurant does not disappoint. The restaurant looked neat but unassuming from the street but has a rustic Italian country decor and we were seated in a back room filled with wood tables. Our service was excellent and I enjoyed my salad and we both loved the Margharita pizza. The crust to toppings ratio was good and the pizza was baked in a wood oven so it was crisp how I like it. No greasy pizza for us! The prices are more than your normal pizza joint but the quality makes it well worth it. We had a relaxing evening and even though they were busy we did not feel rushed. I wished I had room for their gelato. I reside in Orlando but I think A Dopo is one of my favorite pizzas of the past few years.

Yelp
Great ambience, great food. The food was fresh. The staff were pleasant as well. Definitely worth a place to try when in Knoxville.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much when you walk in but they spent everything on the food!!! They make everything in house and you can taste the difference. We had the olivine and insulate di ruchetta as starters!! The pesto is so good, the homemade bread and mozzarella work so well together. The pistachio and vinaigrette made the salad! Everyone got a different pizza but all we amazing. The gelato was rich and creamy !! Our server was great. He was very knowledgeable. I can't wait to go back!!!

Yelp
Delicious pizza and wonderful service! Definitely recommend making a reservation in advance.

Yelp
A Dopo definitely lives up to the hype. If you're looking for your cookie cutter, standard pepperoni pizza this is not the place for you. This establishment takes pizza and elevates it with unique combinations and bold flavors to bring you an experience like no other. The sourdough crust is the perfect vessel for their robust red sauce or the rich white sauce base for your pizza. Delectable selection of appetizers to get you started and gelato for dessert, you can get a complete meal and leave feeling full and satisfied. A generous wine menu has something for all taste buds and pairings. We indulged in the trust fall. A unique experience that you'll have to try for yourself if you haven't. I won't give much away but it's a great deal where you get pizzas and app, gelato and some wine. Our waitress was great, service is what you would expect for an elevated pizza joint, casual yet attentive. Inside is very small. If it gets too loud it could be hard to have a conversation, as it can echo a bit, but overall I would definitely return again.

Yelp
Do they need another 5 star review?? I must include another! Amazing Fungi pizza.. just so good! Friendly & knowledgeable service by Fahed .. Carmel or pistachio gelato will take you to another level. Weekday late evening was an easy entry to an obviously popular dining spot.

Kaitlin B.

Yelp
I wish I could give them 10 stars! Amazing vegan options (cheese, pepperoni, sausage etc.) By far the best vegan pizza in town! We order to go from here once a week (sometimes more ). It's also our favorite place for birthday dinners, date nights etc.

Yelp
Service was fantastic and food was amazing. The place was bustling with business but we still were taken care of promptly

Yelp
Hello, love of my life! How will we maintain our long-distance relationship? I guess I need to move to Knoxville so that I can routinely visit my precious pizza special with pig cheek, cheese, pear, walnuts, and honey on delectable sourdough crust. Oh, and the pistachio gelato is holy cow! We also enjoy the focaccia with peppery olive oil and the chocolate gelato. We think one pizza is plenty for two people if you're also having appetizers or dessert. The servers are fun and helpful. The space is stunning!: modern, tiled pizza oven, chalkboard wall with iconic Knoxville spots, cute merch, strung lights, and plants everywhere! The bathrooms are tidy and smell of expensive candles. The overall vibe is warm, sexy, comforting, inspiring...almost intoxicating. This is a fantastic date-night spot!
google avatar

Renee C.

Yelp
We used their website to order 5 take out pizzas. All of them were fantastic and the process easy. The estimated time (60min) the pizzas would be ready, was shorter than the actual and the staff was kind enough to call us to let us know they were ready. By the way, I highly recommend the white pizza. I can't remember the name of it, but all six of us LOVED it.
google avatar

Gary N.

Yelp
This might be the hardest place to eat at in Knoxville. Plan ahead and get a reservation, it will be worth it. After a very long time trying to eat here we finally made it. Certainly, the closes to Amalfi coast pizza we have had since in Positano. The brick oven flavor with fresh ingredients is something to experience. I started off with a YeeHaw beer and wife with wine. The bread with olive oil was amazing as was our pizza's. One pizza per person is the norm here unless you only want a slice or two. If you plan ahead a couple of days make sure you stay on main dining area. Great for couple dates. The rear room lacks the look of front room.
google avatar

Rollin C.

Yelp
We ordered takeout because we couldn't get reservations - not even at 5:00. The staff was SO nice when we picked up. We realized we probably under ordered so we asked how long it would take to get a Pizza Bianca (drizzled with honey) and they had it out in 10 minutes. I'm ashamed I didn't take pics because the pizzas were beautiful - but we were starving! Highly recommend the Arugula Salad...delicious! Margherita Pizza, Fungi and the afore mentioned Pizza Bianca were delicious! Dark Chocolate Gelato also very yummy!! We were all impressed and will plan much further in advance to make reservations when we're going to be in Knoxville!

Yelp
Made a reservation and was seated quickly. Nice candle lit ambience. Reservations are recommended - it was a full house at 8:30pm on a Tuesday. Insalata - standard salad, but don't sleep on the smoked sweet potato. Would order this again simply for the smoked potatoes. Both pizzas were very good Neapolitan style sourdough pies. Neither passed the flop test, and neither had a crispy bottom. But this was forgivable offense, especially for the Sofia, given the delicious anvils of fresh torn mozzarella. Failing the flop test was less an indictment on the pizza's structural integrity, and more a salute to the heavy-handed freak in the kitchen responsible for doling out the mozzarella. Keep it up, you're doing God's work. Sofia - unmelted globs of mozzarella are unwieldy but delicious. The nduja got lost in the mix, wasn't particularly spicy or salty, and there were only little pieces here and there. Calabrese - chili oil was the standout ingredient here. Nice little kick, not overly spicy.

It was great for a date night

Yelp
What an awesome experience - definitely in my top 3 pizza places in Knoxville, if not my fave! Giving a 5/5 for an awesome end to end experience. +1 - food and drink +1 - venue and look +1 - cleanliness inside and restroom +1 - staff and service +1 - location and parking Your biggest challenge may be navigating a large group inside; just from being there over a couple hours it didn't seem to hold beyond 6-8 in one setting. Nothing wrong with that, but just consider that in planning. The pizza is definitely my favorite style; a little burn, thin crusted, and piping hot when you get it. Hard Knox and this place are definitely in a league of their own for this style! My advice is, don't be afraid of the spicy options, it's worth it! :) Will be back with friends, see you soon!

Yelp
Amazing Pizza, sourdough/woodfire, fresh toppings. Staff is ehh. Atmosphere is ehh.. Clean, costly.

Yelp
Adopo is a must on every visit to Knoxville. Top 5 Best pizza's I've ever had! Make sure to always have reservations! -- it's busy.

Yelp
We loved everything about this place. The staff was warm and welcoming and the food was spectacular. I'm not sure how traditional the sourdough crust is, but it was the best Neapolitan style pizza I've ever had. The ovaline and focaccia were equally delicious, as was the gelato. We will absolutely be back.

Yelp
I've eaten at plenty of fresh made pizza place in my time and don't let the pictures fool you. The pizza is very underwhelming. The crust had no flavor and was not crispy. The topping and sauce were not worth the trip either. Maybe because it was so busy but no one in our group ate more than enough just to get by. Ordered pizza w/ basil and basil wasn't even cooked in the oven. Just tons of uncooked basil Green olives did not mate well and request for light on the amount of cheese was completely ignored.

Yelp
Went here for dinner on a Saturday night. We made reservations and it's a good thing we did. Restaurant is tiny! Even though it was tiny it didn't feel claustrophobic in there (thank goodness). Server was friendly but it was interesting how incredibly casual and random their staff dressed. For a high demand, moderately pricey pizza place, seeing a server wearing a dog choke chain around their neck, and other servers with sloppy vintage clothes, then some with button down shirts and nice jeans was a bit awkward. The server with the dog chain threw me for a loop. We ordered two pizzas, one red sauce and one white. The red pizza was AMAZING. They sure don't scrimp on toppings which made the 20.00 price point for a small pizza a bit easier to swallow. The white pizza was good but it was so incredibly rich it was like dipping pizza crust in a bath of fondue cheese. If you like rich, the funghi is your pick! Our server was friendly and efficient. Food was good and overall we definitely enjoyed the experience and we'll be back.

Yelp
OMG so delicious and the servers were delightful. If in Knoxville, go to this little restaurant right off downtown. The red wine on tap was fabulous. The margherita pizza with pepperoni hit the spot perfectly. The salted caramel gelato was scrumptious. I will be thinking of this place in my dreams!

Yelp
Went here for dinner on Tuesday night and I had a wonderful experience! We walked in and was told there was a 30 minute wait and they texted me within 10 minutes. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. The pizza was delicious, the dough was perfect. The appetizer was also incredible just wish there was more cheese for the bread! A bit on the pricey side and in an odd location, but the restaurant itself is cute and open kitchen. Will be back!

Yelp
Came here specifically to support businesses that were participating in the Knoxville Vegan Challenge https://veganchefchallenge.org/knoxville/ in March, 2023. Us plant-based eaters have to stand behind places when they offer vegan items. We'd heard good things about A Dopo from a fellow gluten-free Yelper. While they do not have gluten free pizza, the flour they use is directly from Italy, and many report not having issues with gluten in Europe. I could go on a whole dissertation about US food practices and glyphosate (Roundup) being used as an agent to dry wheat in the US while being against the law in Europe, but you can go down that rabbit hole yourself. We decided to throw caution to the wind and try the vegan pizza (NOT gluten free) being offered. It is sourdough, which it has been argued that the sourdough fermentation process also helps reduce the gluten. But, I am not a doctor and I'm not your doctor. If gluten is an issue for you, don't rely on my review! The pizza was a cashew base, house made "sausage" (vegan) with vegan Parmesan and pistachio pesto. It was amazing. Our server was truly excited when we said we came for the vegan challenge. We also asked about other vegan options and she said the Insalata salad was vegan as is. The pizza was AMAZING. The crust is superb and was just as I remember non-gf pizza being. The salad was also good as a spring mix with sweet potatoes, garbanzo beans and pickled onions with a balsamic type dressing. The dressing seemed like it could be more balanced as it was a bit vinegary and sour, but that's just my tastes. We sat at a community table in the back room, which was much more quiet than the front room. If we make reservations in the future we'll ask for the back room! After eating, our server brought us a plate of Amarena cherries with shaved dark chocolate on top (which she informed was also vegan dark chocolate), apologizing that they were out of the sorbet they'd normally serve as a vegan dessert. Amarena cherries? I'm not mad and would prefer those over sorbet any day. They were creamy, deeply flavored and incredible. We were told the vegan pizza can change every day of the challenge, so I guess we're going back again and again! Thank you to Lindsay, the amazing Yelp Community Manager who personally alerted me about the Knoxville Vegan Challenge. I now offer another Challenge to A Dopo: offer a gluten free option for pizza. While I know cross contamination can be an issue in gluten-filled restaurants, some of us are not that sensitive to cross contamination and there are means to mitigate the possibility, too. I have had equally as amazing gluten-free and vegan pizzas with an Italian rice flour based pizza blend. I'll be your consultant, gratis, lol. (PS, no issues after eating the pizza, but we took some digestive enzymes, Gluten Ease supplement and other gut supporting supplements before going to bed "just in case"). ;)

Yelp
Overall decent experience. Service was good, restaurant was cute but I would recommend making a reservation because the walk in seating is a little awkward. Pizza was good, very thin, wish it was more crispy. Not sure if I would rush back.

Yelp
The pizzas and gelato were fantastic. We will be back for more! Ambiance was great as well: we were seated at the back counter and able to watch the team make the pizzas. Awesome experience. Great service too especially with the fact they were booked solid! I recommend you make a reservation, there will be a long wait time if you don't. 100% worth checking it out! Favorite Dishes: Ovoline Appetizer & 'Nduja and Mushrooms Pizza

Yelp
We were able to make reservations and have a nice dinner with family last night. We started with Ovoline which is House pulled Mozzarella + basil & pistachio pistou + warm SOURDOUGH bread. It was a great choice as an appetizer. We tried two of their pizzas and they were great. They were quiet busy but we were able to take our time and get in and out in a timely manner. You should make reservations in advance because you might not get a seating. We were seated in an area off the main dining area and I have to admit it was a little chilly.
