"Don't let its strip mall location fool you; it's one of the hardest places to get a table in town—and that was before the owner/chef, Nathan Bentley, was named a 2024 James Beard Foundation Best Chef semi-finalist. The dinner menu features entrées like king crab mac and cheese or halibut in saffron butter, with lemon-herb polenta, Castelvetrano tapenade, and asparagus. Be sure to get dessert. The Pop Rocks–topped prosecco cheesecake is a winner." - Bailey Berg

"The menu at this very popular, Midtown Anchorage restaurant is a tribute to chef Nathan Bentley’s time in Italy. The weekly offerings feature thoughtfully procured local ingredients — think spot shrimp from Prince William Sound and white king salmon — as well as a playful weekly burger special to take care of every level of craving. Reservations are essential." - Julia O'Malley

Pretty exquisite and food was creatively crafted. Well done. The Australian wagyu wasn't was great compared to Japanese Wagyu. But that is just the meat.. not the restaurant nor the chef. Overall great experience!! Thank you

The food is absolutely top notch. The service is friendly, fast and professional. The restaurant ambiance isn’t fancy, but it’s relaxed. The sound levels are moderate and would work well for a date or business dinner. Our group didn’t try any of the beef dishes, but the scallops, black cod and halibut were perfectly cooked with rich and tasty sauces that matched a nice white wine perfectly. We had the gnocchi with an aged Parmesan sauce as an appetizer I could have happily stuffed myself with as a main course. The only dish that didn’t wow me was an orange fennel salad. That said, they served absolutely superb coffee made with a French press at the table.

My co- worker dropped my off Friday afternoon and she headed home. I was not expecting this fine dining experience from a Bistro. I had the Octopus and it was tender and delicious. I will come back to try the Halibut. I heard the couple at the next table talking over the menu, we have tried this or that, let's try x this time or repeat x becuase it was delicious.

We found this place by accident on our last night in Anchorage and it was the best meal we had our entire trip. When other reviewers say this is a hidden gem, they aren't kidding. Don't let the strip mall deter you. We started with fresh oysters in a foamy mignonette, and they were fantastic. Then we ate the most delicious brussels sprouts that I think we've ever tasted - so crispy with Asian flavors of miso and soy with cilantro on top. We each ordered fish as our entree. I had black cod and my husband ordered halibut. Both dishes were so good that we shared them. Save room for dessert, if you can. We ended the meal with their dark chocolate torte and ice cream. Their wine list is also quite extensive. Their servers are informative and friendly and they all help each other. Once we returned from our vacation, I knew I had to write a review of Altura. If we return to Anchorage, it will be the first place where I make reservations.

Altura Bistro (Anchorage) This is my first review and first time eating at Altura. I would describe it as a seafood and steakhouse . You get free bread and butter. Which were yummy , the bread was warm, soft and fluffy and the butter was whipped with black salt. The service was excellent. The servers were attentive and the food came fast and perfectly timed. Such as we finished the bread , the app came , we finished the app, the entrees came . We ordered .... Drinks : wine based cocktails. It was a good drink and squeeze the lime in the drink and it's better appetizer : pork belly . Pork belly has crispy ends and juicy inside. It was on top of a bed of cabbages that had vinegary dressing. Entree: chicken confit . I liked the ravioli and the chicken was cooked perfectly with crispy skin. It was saltier than I liked. New York steak . Cooked perfectly to medium rare and delicious . It came with potatoes. Dessert: creme brulee . It comes with a garlic crumble but it tastes like chocolate which was nice ! Overall a 4.5/5 rating . Would come back again

Come for amazing food! Gina was awesome. So knowledgeable and fun! We enjoyed the fresh oysters, Butternut Squash Salad, Prawn Bisque, King Crab Mac and Cheese and Weathervane Scallops. The Sesame Meringue Tart was a perfect ending! Thanks for a great dining experience in Alaska!

This is my favorite restaurant in Anchorage. Ideally, I would like to go at the change of every season. The flavors are impeccable, fresh, and balanced. My dinners are consistently excellent. I love the staple black cod and that it changes in preparation. 6 stars (if that was possible) if cocktails were added to the line up.

A Hidden Gem of Alaska! My wife and I were in town for our wedding. We were in low spirits because the restaurant we chose for our reception didn't live up to the hype. Then we discovered Altura which skyrocketed our spirits! When stepping through the threshold you are greeted by smiling friendly faces looking to make your experience exceptional. Don't let the casual modern ambience fool you the staff is well prepared to answer any questions about the menu. It's a smaller place so it allows them to give each customer the individual attention of a Michelin star restaurant. We had the pork belly, soups, and black cod. All were phenomenal! We would recommend it for any nice date night or business casual and better gatherings, just book ahead. I tend to rate restaurants I like high and now I regret it because a 5/5 does not do justice for the amazing staff at Altura. - Those Strangers from Arizona
