"Amigo By Nai is a collaborative project from the team behind an LA taco place Carnitas El Momo and Nai Tapas on 2nd Avenue in the East Village. It’s somewhere you should check out if you have a particular affection towards pork and West Coast Mexican food. Like the original El Momo in Boyle Heights, LA, Amigo serves four different variations of carnitas tacos: maciza (tender, bone-in pork butt), buche (slightly chewy pork stomach), cueritos (thick, nearly-sparkling slivers of pork skin), and mixto (a combination of all three). Of the four, the combo taco is the best. Important: each taco comes with its own whole jalapeno nub, and you should crush it open so that all of the acidity and spice ooze onto your taco and probably your new, white shirt. Pork over fashion any day. Amigo is open every day for takeout and delivery, as well as outdoor dining. If you’re looking to try something in addition to the carnitas, get the oxtail birria taco that comes with thick, rich consommé. You may get the urge to pour it over your head like you’re a coach in a Gatorade commercial. photo credit: Alex Staniloff" - Hannah Albertine

The restaurant is located at 29 Second Avenue, between East 1st and 2nd streets in the East Village, NYC. The menu features Acosta’s carnitas and birria tacos, shrimp and garlic, oxtail, and suckling pig tacos from Nai, with plans for additional collaboration tacos. A definite 5 out of 5! Came in on Sunday with 2 ladies and had an extraordinary lunch. First time trying Mexican food and this is amazing. We ordered 2 starters, 1 taco for each and 2 main courses. Please do t hesitate to check out these gorgeous carefully designed plates! They are beautiful and tasty as well. I would say the taco with ribs is the best with their special chili sauce on it. The fish is also great, crispy outside and tender inside. Only wished I could have ordered more! The boss is nice and he gives us the desert for free! The chocolate inside the milk sticks melts but not too hot to hurt your mouth. This is a wonderful place and I’ll come back in the future.

We had a really great dinner here! The shrimp taco was amazing! In fact so good we had to order a second round. The staff was really friendly and very attentive. The one down side for me was that prices felt high. I wouldn’t say the food wasn’t worth it just that at the end of the meal I was surprised by how much 6 tacos, 1 app, and drink was. Still would def recommend it if you are looking for a nice place to eat and don’t have price range you are staying in!

Google
Really great meal in a more upscale Mexican restaurant. We were a group of six and split everything that came to the table. Portions are reasonably sized, though I recommend doubling up on whatever appetizer you get if you’re sharing because it disappears fast! The guacamole, salmon tartare, and corn are fantastic for the smaller plates; the cauliflower tacos were incredible; and the pork and chicken dishes from the larger plates had amazing flavor. Cocktails were also great! Would definitely come back here again.

I liked the food, but I felt the worst wasn't very consistent. The lamb and eggplant tostada were my favorite, the lamb because it cut through the sour flavor of the rest of the food, and the right because it had three most complex flavors. The octopus and shrimp tacos packed a good initial punch, but in the end didn't stay with me. The salmon tartare had too much cucumber.

Google
Ordered the Ceviche and it tasted like too much ketchup where the acidity and sweetness were off balanced. The rib taco’s rib was good but I was disappointed by the canned pineapple instead of fresh pineapple. The cauliflower taco was OK though too much onions 🧅 The service was great 😊

Google
It was an acceptable meal. If the prices were 20% cheaper I would have given this a 4. But I just felt I didn't get the Vue. The food was good, not great, the service was nice, not amazing and the place looked good but nothing special.... The price however was for something extraordinary and left a bad taste in my mouth

This place exceeded my expectations! I honestly didn't know I would be in for a brunch treat! The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating especially after telling them of my allergies. All the food was delicious. My friend and I split all of the dishes and was surprisingly full. But I must say the highlights were the tuna tartar, costilla tacos, and the semifresdo de coco and churros dessert! Please remember to save room for dessert :) The place was pretty empty on a Saturday afternoon and the vibes were chilled with good music and good vibes. Highly recommend!

Google
Whilst the tacos here were superb, we felt quite ripped off due to a misunderstanding by the server. We only (specifically) ordered 1 of each item (2 tacos per portion), but an additional taco and even a double of the whole braised pork cheek dish was automatically (and inaccurately) added as there were 3 of us. This was not first clarified with us and increased the bill by about $80, we ended up being uncomfortably stuffed with food despite the food being very delicious.

Yelp
Found this place when looking for a restaurant around East Village. I like how it's "contemporary" Mexican which brings a layer of neatness. My friend liked this so much she wants to try all the other Nai's. Yes, there are multiple cuisines within the Nai group. I'm not wowed by the food here (still very good) but it's a combination of the whole experience that makes me like this place. Sunday evening It wasn't Easter and the weather was nice, so I was surprised the restaurant was really empty. There was only one or two other tables the whole time we were there. I really like the contemporary interior design. The light colors and simplistic décor really appeal to me. The storefront gets good sunlight too without being in your face (at the time I was there). After sunset, without natural light, the interior lighting doesn't get too dim either. The server was good at tending to us without feel like he's hovering or listening to our conversations. We sat for a long time without being rushed to leave. He recommended getting ~3 items per person to share. My friend and I got 5: guac, corn, croquette, rib taco, shrimp taco Guac Seems basic but we still felt like getting it. There was one part that was particularly salty, but the rest of it was fine. It tasted more refreshing than it looks, so no regrets getting it. Corn I wouldn't have gotten this if my friend didn't choose it. I originally didn't like the idea of a corn dip, but it was much better than expected. The corn was really sweet, not necessarily the artificial type you get from canned soup. The balance is done well such that the sweetness and thickness doesn't feel overwhelming. I was glad to go back to eating the leftovers at the end of the meal. Even after sitting out for over an hour, the texture didn't become all gloopy or solid. Both the guac and corn come with tortilla chips. I like how the chips weren't too dry/hard. I think they were unsalted. I couldn't finish all the chips even after finishing both dips. The chips definitely made up a big part of my fullness. If we didn't get two dips, we probably could've gotten a 6th dish. Croquette I was worried "another" fried item would be too much after all the chips from two dips. No issue at all. I appreciate the crunchy but not hard breading. It came out at a good temperature too. I like how the mash inside didn't stick to the sides/roof of my mouth as I've seen other croquettes do. This might be my least favorite item of the night due to size and texture. It came out much smaller than expected. There was less filling than expected. I found myself needing to actively look for the chicken even in such a small mass. I do appreciate the size of the chicken pieces, but I wish there was more of it. Chicken was fresh and tender. The aioli was underwhelming too. I remember trying the croquette both with and without the aioli. It didn't add enough value for me to remember its flavor. Shrimp Taco This was so juicy. The shrimp was tender and firm (like not mushy). The garlic sauce helped add juiciness too without overtaking the shrimp's own flavors. Love cilantro too (my friend doesn't). I'm not the biggest fan of the purple cabbage. It definitely helps add crunch, but too stiff and dry for me (subjectively). Rib Taco My friend and I didn't expect it to come with the bone. We both tried dissecting the rib on its own in case it was complicated. Turns out the meat was super tender and didn't need separate surgery. Now I wonder if it was possible to just pull the bone out vs cutting around it. Meat immediately fell off when we ran our fork and knives through it. I like how the meat wasn't dry inside or out. The wrap was left behind at the end because I was trying to figure out the rib. I didn't mean to not eat it, but the server was really diligent and took it away before I could tackle the skin on its own. I believe the pickled serrano was added in the form of a swipe of sauce below the rib. I might've missed most of it due to not eating the taco... The chimichurri and pineapple added a lot of flavor too. The chimichurri used my beloved cilantro which is less green to me than parsley. Pineapple seems to be the freshly cut type because it wasn't mushy from being soaked in syrup. I appreciate the tiny and uniform size. Pineapple texture and flavor gets distributed more evenly throughout each bite that way. Overall the food was very solid. Everything was better than expected. I appreciate their attention to detail and refinement and effort in the design of each dish. Add on the décor and service, I'm happy to give this a 5*.

Yelp
We popped in here for happy hour, as we happened upon it while waiting to meet a friend. The croquettes are a must! They were so good we ended up ordering more! Overall a nice place for a meetup to have small bites and drinks.

Ashley C.

Yelp
Very cute restaurant that is very unassuming but actually when you go inside is like a forest with plants hanging off the roof. Our server was incredible. She was so nice! They clearly aim to please their patrons. We ordered: rib taco, grilled octopus, cauliflower taco, and eggplant tostada. Everything was delicious except the eggplant tostada which we had refunded. It was too sweet and wet on top of the dry cracker. They also have speciality cocktails. They are limited with what cocktails they can make off the menu. We tried love potion and abuela spiked my lemonade. Love potion was not as Smokey as I expected considering I personally do not like mezcal normally. The lemonade was way too sour and honestly the presentation makes it look like green juice. Overall great experience that just had few kinks.

Lauren B.

Yelp
We only got drinks here, but the abuela was veryy basilly and good and the love potion was also quite good. They recommended the love potion as a sweeter drink, but it wasn't that sweet, more sparkling. The lemonade tasted like if you made lemonade on your own, which was quite good. Would recommend if you wanted a quick drink!

Alejandra N.

Yelp
Love all the Nai restaurants. -Guac: Must order -Lamb: so tender, literally fell off the bone -Rib Taco: also fell off the bone and the chimichurri sauce on it is perfection The drinks here are also super good. I've tried the love potion and flower power but you can't go wrong. Dishes came out quickly and the staff was super nice about recommending their favorite things.

Ruby B.

Yelp
Really was surprised at how empty this place was when we walked in cause the food is pretty good! Taste wise, everything was solid. Only thing I was confused about was the order of food that came out. We ordered two smalls, one large and 3 tacos + tostada. We got the tacos first, then one small, one large and then the last small. I mean no complaints, we we're just surprised (keeps us on our toes) Corn - this is a sweet dip with chunks of corn. I personally loved it with the chips they came with. Kind of reminds me of sweet corn soup you get at Korean restaurants Octopus - I thought this was cooked really well! loved the green sauce in the middle ans the fresh salsa with it Pork cheek tostada - the pork was SO soft and the sauce was sweet corn based so this was a sweet & salty dish Birria tacos - my bf favorite of the night! the consome that it comes with is AMAZING. this is like a very clean version of the birria food truck tacos (no cheese). cod tacos - good but nothing too special, the batter was really light & i love these corn tortillas lamb - SO TENDER! the sauce reminds me of a sweet mole. they give you soft flour tortillas to make your own tacos with churros - the chocolate they have inside is REALLY good, i thought the churros were a bit too doughy but my bf inhaled & loved it so it's churro preference! overall a really good mexican spot if you're in the area, just the price is $$$ for somewhat small portions (but i guess it is served tapas style)

Yelp
Yum! I'm on vacation visiting a friend and she picked out this restaurant after I suggested Mexican. We were both totally satisfied with our dining experience. We left extremely full (and happy). My friend enjoyed a classic margarita. I vicariously drank it through her since I'm pregnant and can't partake. We split two appetizers-guacamole and corn. The guacamole was fresh and flavorful. I thought the corn would be an elote dish, but it was a creamed corn dip. SO TASTY! We split two of the birria tacos and two shrimp tacos. Both are fricken delicious. I want to say I enjoyed the shrimp more, but not by much. There was a good portion of meat/fish on them. The sauces were delightful. The aioli on the birria has a little kick. They accommodated our request for one corn tortilla and one flour for each pair of tacos. If I lived in New York, I would make this a regular spot! The staff is friendly and accommodating. The space is quaint and cozy. I'm a huge fan of the live plants throughout the restaurant. Go check Amigo out!

Yelp
Absolutely perfect drinks made by the friendly bartender Annie. We had the love potion and puss in the boots. Both were strong but enjoyable. Love potion on the sweeter side and puss on the boots more citric and spicy, I couldn't choose my favorite because both were great. It is nice for a chance in NYC to actually get what you pay for lol. Definitely a place I would recommend for drinks with friends or a simple after work drink at the bar. Trust me, their cocktails are worth a stop, or many. Food also looks delicious, I didn't have any, but my Mexican bf approved it! What better compliment than that? Btw their interior design is immaculate.

Mila L.

Yelp
One of the best places I know in East Village, where you can come with friends, sit & enjoy drinks and food. The ambiance is amazing, the staff is very friendly, the cocktails they make - omg, mind blowing. We tried the whole cocktail menu & we highly recommend: "puss in boots" and "Japanese widow" - they make some liquors & syrups from scratch & it means you will not be able to try something like that anywhere else. And do not be shy trying all that you like on the menu. Honestly, we tried everything on the menu & we have never been disappointed. Also the prices are adequate, w is always a good bonus.

Kathryn T.

Yelp
The five star review is really for one of the best espresso martinis I have ever had. It is worth coming here just for that. Food is a little more on the 4-star side. I would skip out on the tostadas \... they tend to get soggy and the chips have a weird balance of being too hard and soft at the same time. The tacos are delicious but also expensive for what they are.

Vivian L.

Yelp
My friend recommended this place to me when I was looking for a place to eat and drink and it definitely did not disappoint! I also have Nai itself on my list to try and will definitely do so soon. We got the chips & guac, costilla & gambas tacos, and a pitcher of red sangria. The chips and guac were quite average but a great way to start off the meal. Also you can never go wrong with chips and guac. The tacos came in a set of 2 and it was definitely filling. The costilla came with a side of salsa and the meat was still on the bone. We had to use the fork and knife provided to get it off but it was super tender and flavorful. The salsa was a great tangy and sweet compliment. The red sangria is one of the best sangrias I've had in the city. It didn't taste too strong but we could definitely feel it afterward. It was the right amount of sweet and refreshing. Also, for $35 that is a great deal. We liked the open kitchen concept, but the it got a little smoky and with the candle on the table, it started to burn our eyes a little. We blew out the candle and noticed the table next to us actually ended up doing the same. Definitely will be back again!

Yelp
Not only does this place serve great Mexican food with a fusion twist, but also has amazing cocktails that will absolutely blow you away. You can't really go wrong with any choice, but personally, I highly recommend the following: Apps: - Berenjena: A cold dish that'll wake up your senses. The smoked eggplant was super juicy. - Pescado Frito: I'm not a fan of cod, but even I could not stop eating these little magical tempura bites. The flavor was just right sans the fishiness. Tacos: - Gambas: The shrimp was fresh, and all the flavors really pulled through. - Bacalao: Tempura cod in taco form! - Tacos de Huevo: The breakfast taco that you have to get for brunch. The eggs were so smooth and tender, with added flavor and texture from the kimchi and manchego. Desserts: - Semifreddo de Coco: The texture was absolutely perfect - slightly denser but also smoother than that of most places'. Sweet and tart, and served at the right temperature. Cocktails: - What Happened to 8th St.: If you can only get one drink, get this multi-dimensional drink that will leave you lost and meandering in its layers of flavors. It's rich, sweet, and also kinda savory... It's everything. - Athena Goes to the Market: Tasted very healthy like a green juice - with alcohol of course. - Espresso Martini: One of the best in NYC, and trust me - I've had it all around town. The place is hip and trendy with a semi-open kitchen. While the food and service is top-notch, the ambiance is chill and unpretentious. You are guaranteed to have a good time for a sit-down meal or just a couple of drinks.

Marijke K.

Yelp
Met a friend here for dinner and we had a nice time. The atmosphere is nice and the service is great! We ordered the corn to share and each got tacos. I got the cauliflower tacos which were pretty good - it was just different to have middle eastern and Mexican spices united and I'm not sure how I felt about it at the end of the day. Great cocktails too!

Izzy A.

Yelp
They somehow forgot to put tequila in my margarita, and only told me after I finished it. LOL. The food was pretty good, but the entire time I felt rushed (they kept trying to grab plates that clearly had a lot of food on it still) and toward the end they asked if they could get the table back. Which was fair - it was cinco de mayo and they were busy - but that coupled with the rest of the service experience was kind of bothersome.

Art C.

Yelp
Unsurprisingly, I'll give them the nod. We actually went way out of our way to pick up food from here. Like a special trip, even during covid. "Why?" you ask. One word: "carnitas"... You love carnitas, I love carnitas, everyone loves carnitas. This place specializes in them. And not just the normal carnitas you find at most places. This restaurant has the carnitas you find in Mexico with all the pork parts. In a(nother) word "delicious". If I had one criticism it would be that their tortillas were a bit on the hard side for us. But that's the only criticism.

Forum S.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. The service was great and the food was excellent. We ordered all 5 garden entrees and the guac and chips. My favorite dish was the coliflor tacos. They were well seasoned and nicely plated. The guac and chips were also very good and I loved the unique chips that came with it. The service was on point and they did a great job plating the food. The decor of the restaurant is also really new and fun. This is a great spot to go with friends or on a date.

Hannahrose R.

Yelp
Incredible food. Tasty drinks. GREAT service. Cool & modern ambiance & music. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend!

Kelsey A.

Yelp
My favorite part of this dinner was the stellar service. The staff was kind, helpful, attentive, and friendly. That's what I'll remember most from this spot. Other than that, the food was very good. I'll order a little differently next time because not everything was a hit, but the things that were good were really good! Definitely get the rabo (oxtail) tacos. Excellent. The bacalao was good if you're in the mood for something fried and delicate. The carnitas tacos were ok, though I didn't love the bone in and found there wasn't enough meat for two tacos. The caballa (mackerel) was not for me- the flavors were great but it tasted too fishy for me. Our waiter recommended the gambas taco and coliflor taco, so I'd definitely get that!

Achiaa P.

Yelp
This is what you call tacos! I've had a problem with the way tacos are made in the US in general- it's either a hit or a miss, and most of the time it's a miss for me.I decided to check this place out after reading raving reviews. I came here on a Saturday evening for outdoor dining. They have 4 really cozy outdoor dining cubicles, and a separate table right in front of the restaurant. There was a couple ahead of us so e had to wait a bit. After about 10 minutes we were giving glasses of red wine on the house as we waited. Another 15-20 minutes and we were seated. We ordered all of the tacos on the menu except the cauliflower and here's my review: they're all equally amazing and it's difficult to pick my favorite. My introduction was the oxtail tacos and it was the best introduction, it immediately blew my tastebuds off. Then I ordered the viiejo gitano cocktail which also blew me away. The saffron infused honey, citrus from the lime and sweetness from the pineapple was THE BEST pairing for all the tacos especially the carnitas. also ordered the Abuela spiked my lemonade cocktail and if you're looking for freshness this is your drink. It was also very good. Every single one of the meats in the tacos were extremely tender melt in your mouth bliss. The shrimp in the shrimp taco was so juicy-not dried out, and the dressing on it was superb - tasted special and different from most shrimp tacos. The carnitas would have to be my favorite just because I've just never had carnitas that I didn't have to struggle with the dryness of it. And guess what these guys mean serious business so they have no chicken tacos on their menu. They're just like (I imagine)" look we want to give you and experience here". Oh and get the guac and chips- That, too is special. Service was top notch! This is definitely where I'll bring people who don't live in NY to have an experience of food in the city.

Emi B.

Yelp
Made it back to try the tacos! Tried the Rib, Oxtail & Its consomme, and Mixed Carnitas. They were all really good! I mean they have to be good given the collab and it's also quite a pricy taco. But left satisfied! Its nice they serve the consomme with the Oxtail taco, nice touch in the winter cold weather.

Brendan T.

Yelp
The exceedingly rare cumulative 5 stars on Yelp is accurate, but other than that I think this place is way overrated overall and somehow shockingly under the radar. Like why is/hasn't this place popped up all the best of lists of all the major NY Food media cognoscenti is beyond me. The tacos here are to me, until I'm proved otherwise the proverbial "best in the city", and are paired with seriously delicious cocktails to boot, in a small but chic and smartly decorated space, with a professional and garrulous staff to boot. No surprise that this is an LA import. While theres many different areas that NYC can claim superiority over the city of Angels in the eternal rivalry between the two, tacos, no matter how massive strives we may have made in recent years in the department, are decisively not one of them. About those tacos; The fish tacos, as delicious as any I've sampled and perhaps a good deal more refined, and exhibited a deftness of technique in the frying department that suggests the best tempura I'd ever encountered, except for the fact that it was actually much more impressive than any tempura I've ever had. The Rabo; This oxtail taco is their representation of the most memes and viral taco of them all currently, the Birria taco. I've sampled a great many tacos of the type, first in LA years ago when the craze was initially sparked there, and then later here in the immediately pre and then full Covid era when the craze spread to this metro, and elsewhere including Tejas. I can honestly say that the use of oxtail combined with the ingenuity of the wizards here resulted in a more complex, and deeply flavorful taco, as well as accompanying consume, than I have yet to encounter anywhere else. Carnitas Mixtas; In many ways I consider Carnitas to be the true taco heads tacos, and unsurprisingly the version here blows most other version I have tasted out of the water. A simply prepared delicious variety of various succulent pig parts mixed together letting all their porky goodness shine, the essence of simple porcine bliss. Costilla; Shredded beef rib slow simmered and reduced down to a confit, enhancing and expanding the beefy goodness to delirious levels of deliciousness, topped with a tangy and bracing salsa that perfectly complements the smokey and fatty confit. Amigo: Pork Belly, perfectly seared to achieve the absolute perfect contrast of crunchy exterior and decadently soft and unctuously fatty interior, perfectly complemented by a delicious but not overpowering salsa of pineapple onion and cilantro providing the perfect citrusy/sweet balance to the fatty porky protein. Gambas; Shrimp, likewise perfectly prepared as opposed to neither gummy nor mushy which is unfortunately usually the default at most taco purveyors in the metro, where they usually serve as a reminder that shrimp is very often something to avoid on NYC menus regardless of the cuisine. They seemingly benefit greatly by whatever masterful combination and technique of marinating they are subjected to as well as the flavorful house mayo concoction they are topped with. I'd never gotten a chance to try any of the non-taco options on the menu since I was always so enraptured by the religiously powerful experience of consuming the tacos here, but they looked to be absolutely delicious anytime I caught glimpses of them while leering at the dishes of fellow diners. I very very much look forward to digging deeper and likely sampling every damn thing on the menu when I bring friends and loved ones back here in the coming new year. What I can attest to is the mastery of the bar staff here, and dare I say any of the wonderful mezcal and tequila based cocktails I accompanied by numerous taco focused meals here proved just as delicious as the tacos, and as such, this place should surely be in the conversation of the best cocktails in the city. While looking through various other yelp reviews in anticipation of drafting this one, I noticed several praising their rendition of what was surely 2021's (and before that the 90s) most viral and polarizing cocktail, the espresso martini. Seeing as I how I just recently popped my cherry on this novelty libation with a delicious version on a recent DC trip, I now very much look forward to trying the one here and something tells me I will not be disappointed! **Editors note: Since the initial drafting of this review, and the posting of it a few weeks later, the cumulative 5 star aggregate rating in yelp has slipped to the much more common 4 1/2 cumulative. Let's do the right thing and get it back up to that legendary status for 2022 Yelpers!

Jafar A.

Yelp
The restaurant is tapas style. When we went, the place was completely empty, the waitress mentioned how Nai had just recently opened it within the last couple of years. Probably why the foot traffic during the week is lighter. We got the salmon tartare, Brussel sprouts and shrimp tacos. My favorite was the Brussel sprouts and shrimp taco. Would pass on the salmon tartare.

Cris K.

Yelp
I had gamba tacos and friend had rabo. They were pretty good but I wish they came with more, lol. But I guess this place is more of a tapas cocktail bar than a full on restaurant. Nothing in particular blew my mind, but the salsa was fresh and the ingredients were clean.

Kieun L.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my dinner here! :) Service: Amazing. My friend and I sat at the bar. The staff was so kind, giving us tips about the menu and just being so attentive. My friend and I stayed nearly 3 hours and they never made us feel rushed. Now that I think about it my water glass was never empty. Food: delicious!! The duck taco was fantastic. I also loved the mackerel. Everything was flavorful and bright! Vibe: hip, casual, aesthetic. Not too loud which I rly appreciate. Highly recommend! I would definitely return.

Franny A.

Yelp
Top notch tacos come to NYC., the East Village specifically. Opening during the pandemic is a welcome sight and taste. Ate: Gambia's Cauliflower Pork with bone Total: $23 The housemade tortillas are off the chain. Flavor combinations like pickled shisitos, sesame seeds. Every part pops. Flavor bomb!

Emma J.

Yelp
I've been looking for a Mexican restaurant that actually has delicious food and drinks in NYC for so long and I can definitely say I'll be back here! The service, food, cocktails and ambience were so enjoyable. We ordered: Puss In Boots (cocktail) Bare Necessities (cocktail) Maiz Gratinado (elote) Atun (yellowfin crudo) Pulpo (grilled octopus) Pato Tacos (duck) Gambas Tacos (shrimp) Everything was so delicious, but I didn't LOVE the pulpo (it was way too chewy for me and I love octopus that is super crispy). I would definitely try a different taco next time because they all sound amazing. Our waiter was so fantastic and everything came out quickly, but we were still able to dine.

Amy Z.

Yelp
This place has been open less than a week but is an absolute gem! The food, service, and ambience was spectacular, with our server thoroughly going through the menu and his recommendations and even ordering us extra bread for the mussel broth. Definitely a great place for an intimate date night. Having been to all ranges of Michelin restaurants, it would not surprise me if Amigos gets a star in a year or two if they continue this quality of service.

Booked a table for six on a Saturday night. Tapas seemed like a good idea for a meal that wouldn't feel too heavy after two days of continuous restaurant food. The menu is small, and it took a while to order the right portions but WHAT AN INCREDIBLE MEAL. Even the people who weren't in the mood for a heavy dinner asked for seconds. The balance of flavors in every dish was spot on. The ceviche, tartare, rib eye and shrimp tacos were unbelievable. We even ended with a wonderful coconut ice cream dessert and piping hot churros that hit all the right spots. Our server Abraham was really great to chat with and made sure we had a really perfect evening. Definitely trying the sister restaurants soon, and coming back here!

Yelp
I almost never order the same cocktail twice but "What happened to 8th street" was so delicious we ended up ordering 3 of them, it has matcha, wasabi infused scotch, coconut and Aztec chocolate. So good!!!

Yelp
I went to their sister restaurant Nai the day before and decided to grab lunch here to see if it was just as good; one of the waiters recognized me because he had been part of my table's crew! Given they share waitstaff I'm not at all surprised that the service at Amigo by Nai is outstanding. A bit on Nai's background. The chef is Galician and his main restaurant serves, as you might expect, Galician food. So when I saw on his website that he also owns a taqueria I thought - well, that's interesting. There is a language connection but I'd always thought the Continental and American culinary traditions were fairly different. Nothing wrong with that though; successful chefs don't stick to a single cuisine. I checked the reviews for Amigo and they were glowing so why not. Caesar salad (+): Nice and crunchy with the panko. Could have done with a bit more cheese and with the Romaine cut into smaller pieces. Pretty light on dressing, which I like, but might be a negative if you prefer not to be able to taste your vegetables. Oxtail taco (+): The oxtail itself was whatever but the real upside here is in the little bowl of consomme they serve with it. Drink it before or after eating the taco or dip each bite of the taco into the soup, it doesn't matter, either way it will show you why every brand of instant noodles has a "beef" flavor. Shrimp taco (++): Nice firm shrimp and an explosion of flavor, definitely my favorite taco so far. Fried cod taco (+): Well-prepared but I'm starting to realize I'm just not a huge fan of fried fish. Rice pudding (++): Sweet and spicy with a torched caramel crust, like a creme brulee. Only thing holding this back from 5 stars was the price for me. It's not a ripoff given the quality of the food, but are these $8 tacos twice as good as the $4 ones at Los Mariscos? Unclear.

Yelp
Great place for a date spot or with group of friends. The servers were very attending to our needs and made some very good recommendations. Everything was delicious! You MUST try the skirt steak, I promise you won't regret it! Will absolutely return again!

Yelp
Absolutely the best undiscovered gem in NYC, VAL is the absolute best. Make sure you ask him for the abuelita drink!!!! You won't be dissatisfied. Can't wait to come again!!!

Yelp
This is a hidden gem! Loved their cocktails - better than some cocktail bars in the city. Food is really good as well - open kitchen type. Definitely try their tacos and churros. Will be back again this week! Service, drinks, food, atmosphere was all great.

Yelp
Fillings were excellent, tortillas a little too thick and tough, but everything right now is obviously 5 stars, because let's support and keep open as many actual restaurants that are trying as possible so the city doesn't turn into a big bank/starbucks/mcdonald's!

Yelp
"I'll be right back with some more napkins and sauces" never actually happened, so when I walked back inside to get them myself I was asked "YOU WANT EVEN MORE?!" because he must have thought he'd already brought them when he hadn't. Then, although he gave us sauces, he unfortunately forgot napkins, so, all things considered, $51 for six small tacos, we had to share ONE napkin, and automatic tip minimum was 15%?! Overall the food was decent. Over-salted, under-spiced, and the tortillas had spent too much time absorbing oil so they were slightly dry and fairly chewy. It's nice trying something "new," I guess, but you can get better tacos elsewhere for half the price if you're willing to commute -- which I will certainly be doing, because sitting under that one tiny speaker turned all the way up was painful.

Yelp
I visited Amigo on a colder Thursday with a friend. I have been following this restaurant since the beginning of the pandemic because I was excited about the prospect of getting a decent taco joint in the neighborhood. This restaurant uses the carnitas recipe from a famous carnitas place in LA so I figured it would have to be good. The restaurant has a bit of a confusing set up going on right now because you order inside like a fast food restaurant but they are delivering food and drinks to the table. We sat down after ordering our food and everything came very fast. I ordered a carnitas taco (with everything), a spare rib taco, guacamole/chips and a drink. The two tacos I had were amongst some of the most delicious I have had in recent memory. My friend got the cauliflower taco which she enjoyed so much, she ordered another. I would highly recommend trying out this taco place if you are in the neighborhood. I will certainly be back.

Yelp
OMG. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!! No wonder the place was packed on a Friday. We had the Costilla, Rabo, Maiz everything was delicious!!! The bartender Val was excellent, he was knowledgeable about all kinds of drinks and made sure to know what liquor we like! We told him tequila of course it's Friday and we had beautiful craft drinks. Very charismatic! You just have to come in person and taste the delicious drinks! Side note, if you plan on going on a Friday night, you might have to wait for a table because again the place was bursting! 10/10 will come again!

Yelp
I got the Carnitas Tacos, great flavors unfortunately the carnitas were dry. Hope to return and order other menu items! Lovely space and decor. Perfect place for dinner

Yelp
I REALLY wanted to like this spot. I had read so many great reviews & had studied the menu. Wondering if it was an off night with dif folks in the kitchen? Disappointing particularly as we had an out of town guest with us. Let me start by saying the cocktails & service were great!! Cute spot and we were happy to get reservations for 5ppl indoors on a Saturday. I don't return food on a whim. But after the entire table tried the pork belly tacos & the cauliflower shawarma tacos they had to go back. Honestly we would have returned the shrimp (weird taste & v greasy) & cod tacos (fishy) as well but didn't want to make a scene. The best thing we had was the salsa verde that came with the chips. Nothing was that great to be honest. Average at best. - Guac was OK. I am no chef but my guac is more flavorful. - Chips we're average - almost stake. Trader Joe's tortilla chips are way better. Even my local Mexican makes their own. - Side of Mexican street corn was almost like a soup? Came with a spoon and when we asked they said it's like a dip. It wasn't bad but maybe serve it with chips so it's obvious it's more a dip than a side. - Shawarma cauliflower tacos were far too curry flavored. No real dimension in overpowering curry flavor. I understand Shawarma seasoning has allspice in it which has Cory in it but it should only be a small part of a more complex flavor. - Eggplant dish was cold (not expected) and rather bland. Tasted like a poorly seasoned tapenade. We only ate half of it. - Pork belly tacos. Very thick cut and rough/chewy. Did NOT melt in our mouth. - Shrimp tacos. Shrimp Tasted fine on first bite but had a aftertaste. Wondering if they were soaked in some sort of chemical for preservation? Also very greasy. - Cod tacos. They were OK. Nothing to write home about and very greasy. One of the tacos had a fishy taste. While they were very understanding about the food we returned but it would have been nice to have been offered a round of drinks or something given the meal was a disaster and none of our plates were finished

Yelp
Delicious gourmet Mexican food! Everything was so tasty. Really cool spins on Mexican classics. The staff was also really nice. The drinks were elevated delicious too. A little pricey, but I'd say it's worth it.

Yelp
Best tacos ever!! Each order comes with two tacos and they are a bit pricey but it's worth it. Each taco has a unique flavor and is seasoned to perfection. Def get the tempura cod! So crispy and light

Yelp
A vibrant space with phenomenal hospitality and the kind of place where you need to turn off NYC fast-paced thinking "where do I need to go next?" or "did I turn off my stove before I left the house?" You probably did, as you usually do. So just enjoy a juicy Carnitas taco (mixto) and treat yourself to one of their many unique cocktails. I had Flower Power: smoky and sweet! The Rabo (oxtail taco)? I will literally have dreams about that taco. So tender. It needs your absolutely undivided attention - take one photo for the IG and then dive right in.

Yelp
I had such a lovely time at Amigo. The staff was incredibly nice. The service was so quick. The ambiance is awesome. The cocktails were SO GOOD thanks to Andrés. The food was so so great. I would love to come back here again.

Yelp
The most annoying part of the experience was that they provided water without informing us that it is $7 per bottle mineral water. Didn't even ask us if we wanted regular tap water. They served us two bottles without asking us. The food is good, but way way overpriced for the portions. My whole group sat there underwhelmed and disappointed. Also, we came for brunch because they are supposed to have a brunch menu. But we came during the a two week period when brunch was not available for whatever reason. This info was not on their website. If you want a few tasty bites, yea sure give it a go. But you'll probably leave with a surprising check and an hungry stomach.

Yelp
DISCLAIMER: This review is just a note to myself. Yo future self you should def come back here. Ever have a hankering for some quality over quantity tacos? This is it. The meat is the focus and omg it slaps. Got the Pork Belly (which Kayla ACTUALLY LIKED ) and the oxtail, both were incredibly delish. Kayla also got one of their pre-made mixed drinks which was really good and spicy. The inside has a huge bar, definitely come back when all this covid mess is over (and points for taking lots of covid safety precautions). Prices on everything kind of make this a splurge place COME HERE IF: You want some delicious food, or a snack to whoop your tastebuds ass DON'T IF: You hungry af cuz thats gonna be super expensive (you'll want to eat one of every taco next time fo sho)

Yelp
If you appreciate good (and I mean REALLY GOOD) tacos, then this place is for you. Here's an analogy to better explain Amigo, at least from a quality standpoint~ Amigo is to tacos what expensive omakase is to sushi; you pay a pretty penny, but if you appreciate quality tacos this is a place you ought to try. We probably ordered one of every taco aside from the Cauliflower taco. The tortillas taste like they're made in-house or they get it from a tortilla guy; they're very fresh and actually has a taste lol. Our favorites were the RABO (oxtail), the COSTILLA (baby back rib confit), and the CARNITAS (my wife liked the one with just the pork butt but I ordered the MIXTO which contained skin and stomach, I really digged the different textures of the pork). As someone who, every blue moon, tries to make good tacos (certainly not to Amigo's level), I know it takes a lot of love and time to make such tasty and moist meats and for that I salute them. Their ENSALADA CESAR was a cool take on Caesar Salad and, as you can tell from pics from other reviewers, it looks pretty striking as well. All in all, such a nice meal. My wife and I love tacos and so to eat it in a nice sit-down environment was a good experience too.

Yelp
Probably the most authentic Mexican food I've found in the city. Cute vibe inside and Margaritas that pass the test.

Yelp
Good taco options and drinks but everything comes out insanely fast. Be prepared after you order for everything to com right away

Yelp
The 4 out of 5 comes from the pricing ($15 per smallllllll taco). However, the flavors on the tacos were AMAZING. The pork belly (Amigos taco) hit and the Gambas (shrimp) did too, which also came with a lil' side sauwce - yeah I said it! I actually did order another taco because I wasn't full. So that's something to consider. We also had drinks (not pictured) - the Abuela Spiked My Lemonade (SO refreshing 8/10) and the Bizarre something (fruity and sweet 8/10).
