Big Boi serves vibrant Filipino comfort food with a modern flair, known for its crispy fried chicken and delicious, flavorful dishes in a casual patio setting.
"Sawtelle Japantown’s Big Boi, named in memory of owner Barb Batiste’s father, offers soulful Filipino comfort fare in the form of affordable combo plates. But that doesn’t mean the chef skimps on flavor, with clean takes on classic dishes like adobo, sisig, tocino, and sinigang served with a choice of rice or pancit." - Emily Joy Meneses, Eater Staff
"The hefty combo plates at Big Boi in Sawtelle Japantown." - Matthew Kang
"B Sweet founder Barb Batiste opened Big Boi in honor of her late father and the restaurant dazzles with modern takes on classic Filipino dishes. As one of LA’s early successful modern Filipino upstarts, Big Boi serves favorites like chicken adobo, beef giniling, and sisig, plus pancit and garlic rice on the side." - Matthew Kang, Mona Holmes
"Chef Barb Batiste has been making homestyle Filipino food with her family since she was a little girl - the restaurant itself is dedicated to her late father whose nickname was Boi. We’re obsessed with the epic kamayan here, which comes with all the traditional favorites, but amps things up with additions like lobster tail, soft shell crab, crab legs, and bone marrow, along with turon (fried banana rolls) or cassava cake for dessert. Afterward, you get a hot pandan towel, floss, mints, and gum to make sure that you’re totally refreshed post-feast. Chef Batiste’s B Sweet Dessert Bar is located next door too if you want to order more to go." - kaila yu
