"A cute Asian American bakery-café full of houseplants and Japanese art may be the last place one expects to find Cincinnati chili. But Cafe Mochiko in the city’s East Walnut Hills neighborhood often serves its own version of the dish: a Cincinnati-style ramen. ... The Cincy ramen keeps to the traditional pork, bouncy house-made noodles, and tingling heat while adapting to local tastes through the chili flavor backbones of cinnamon and cloves. Bentz completes the bowl with a jammy boiled egg and a handful of shredded cheddar." - ByDaniel Walton

"Erik Bentz and Elaine Townsend created Mochiko in 2019 to supply pastries to fellow food businesses and directly serve customers a menu of pastries and ramen inspired by yoshoku, or Western-influenced Japanese cuisine. Early in 2021, the pop-up evolved into a brick-and-mortar location in East Walnut Hills. Part bakery, part izakaya, the restaurant offers dishes like omurice, curry tonkatsu, and hamburger served on a fluffy bao bun, as well as sweets like a dalgona coffee pie." - Andy Brownfield

"After the Asian American café and restaurant Cafe Mochiko landed on BA’s 50 Best New Restaurants list, I knew my husband and I needed to go on our next visit to his family in Cincinnati. We first went for dinner and there truly wasn’t a bad bite. The small, casual sit-down dinner is surprisingly shareable. The chili miso udon was a slippery warm-spicy pleasure to eat. And the shitake don (a bowl of rice topped with tamago and shiitake and oyster mushrooms) featured velvety-soft egg, chewy mushrooms, and perfectly cooked rice. I don’t eat beef, but my husband ordered the Cincinnati-style chili ramen, and, in his words, “It made me want to slurp from the bowl like it was cereal milk.” Of course we went back the next morning for pastries and milk tea. The pandan doughnut was the best of the bunch, but you won’t hear me complaining about the ube halaya croissant or the Thai tea snickerdoodle." - ByElazar Sontag

As a fan of authentic Japanese cuisine, I was genuinely surprised by the creativity at this place! Every dish had a familiar foundation with a subtle, delightful twist that made it stand out. Everything I tried was spot-on. I’ve heard great things about their bakery too, but since we went in the evening, most of the baked goods were already sold out—definitely going back earlier next time!

While the atmosphere, service, and location were fantastic, I was disappointed in the food. I would give the Cincinnati Style Ramen a 5/10 and say it is not worth the hype. I make various ramens from scratch at home and try as many new places as I can. Ramen and sushi are my favorite food. While I enjoy Cincinnati style chili, the ramen was lacking in flavor. The broth was a little on the bland side and lacked a good flavor “kick” that the ramen needed to stand out. The noodles were also not my favorite, as they felt “spongy” and the egg was overcooked. I would never order this again. The Hokkaido Smashburger was a 6.5/10. Same as with the ramen, it lacked the “kick” of flavor it needed to not just be “another burger.” And that is what it felt like, just another burger and not something to go out of my way to get. Overall, I feel both of these items have good potential, they just need some work in the flavor department.

Google
Amazing pastries!! They always have some unique offerings you find anywhere else. Get there early they will sell out quick on busy weekend days!

Google
Got the best ramen of my life here. Then came back and got some awesome sweets the next morning . The croissant looked the best but honestly the cookies and shokupan were the stand outs in flavor. Definitely need to come back if I’m ever in the area!

Google
Very busy at 10:00am on Sunday. Would recommend arriving early if you'd like a full selection of pastries. I was not very overly impressed with any of the pastries that I had. They were all good and had interesting textures, but the flavors were not very strong. I'll be returning to try other options. Many tables squeezed into a small space but there was always one available.

Google
Mochiko has the best ramen I have ever had. I’ve never visited Japan so I can’t compare but I’ve had really great ramen in Chicago and LA, but nothing beats Mochiko. I love their kioke shoyu ramen and the Cincinnati-style ramen. it’s the only ramen I’ve ever been able to finish completely and slurp all the broth. Their pastries are also incredible and some of the best in the city. They are always bringing new ideas and flavors to their bakery and I feel so grateful to have such a wonderful spot in my city. The atmosphere is cozy and service is always great and efficient. It can be a pain to wait in line at open since the shop is relatively small, but it is worth the wait every single time.

Google
Every single bite of our first Cafe Mochiko experience was pure perfection. Every single pastry we tried (and we tried every pastry they had in stock) has the perfect blend of aesthetics, textures and flavors. The balance of sweet and savory could not have been better. Every pastry was a work of art and had us hesitate for the briefest moment before we dove in and devoured it. The sweet corn bibinka (gluten-free) mixed a delicate corn sweetness with a finely shredded cheddar on top to make the most mouthwatering combination. Egg and kimchi croissant blew my mind and had me desperately wishing I had ordered two. Ube halaya croissant- these type typically land too sweet for me but this one was pretty yam perfect. If you like everything bagels the Everything Cream Cheese Bao will knock your socks off. Make sure you get to the shop early as they do sell out (we learned this the hard way a few weeks ago). It is a 45 minute drive down for us but I can say without hesitation that it was well worth the drive. You won’t be disappointed- and if you are….there may be something wrong with you. 😜🤤

Google
Perfect! Chili with egg and noodles! Are the skyline love you should definitely try this. The other Ramen looks really delicious as well.

Ashish K.

Yelp
We tried so many things there and everything was great. The crab cucumber salad, chili miso udon, mochi mochi panic, Katie sando and the smashbuger. The fries were soooo good. Service was excellent. We will definitely go again.

Karl K.

Yelp
Get there when it opens because there are no reservations. First come first serve! But do not be daunted by your wait time - they will take your phone number, and you can just duck next door to Growler House and enjoy sampling their wide variety of craft beers, ciders, sours, and spirits. A very pleasant way to wait! We've eaten at Mochiko several times. Great every time. It's a nice experience, dining at small tables with neighbors all around and everyone is happy and chill. If you're very lucky, there will be Japanese pastries or milk bread still available from the morning bakery rush (yes, it's an NYT-top-rated bakery too). PS: I had the Tantanmen ramen. Photo with my review --- I've eaten some of it because I couldn't wait to tuck in, so forgive me! This is just spectacular. And also the Shoyu ramen, AND the "Skyline" ramen (sounds weird but is super delicious and not at all what you might think it is).

Minnie Q.

Yelp
It look nice and welcoming. The employee was sweet and helpful. I would say they look too pretty to eat. But once I got a bite of it, they are not really up to the hype. They are great for sure, I just meant I'm not going out of my way to get it. Or want it all the time. To be fair this is just my opinion, also I was only there for the pastry. Prob will come back for dinner to complete the review.

Olivia H.

Yelp
long story short: perfection!! Mochiko is amazing. There is always a line, but it is well worth the wait. There are also plenty of bars in the area where you can enjoy a drink while waiting for your table. The restaurant itself is small but cozy & the service is great despite the constant busyness. As for the food, everything is superbly delicious. In the mornings, they serve some of the best pastries in the city! Their menu is always changing, but every single pastry I've ordered has been spectacular. Their dinner menu is just as awe-inspiring. They have a rotating ramen menu; this time, we had the vintage shoyu, which was great, & the tantamen, which is one of the best dishes I've had in my entire life. The udon & burger are also incredible, & the kaarage is a must order! Mochiko is the best & I wish I could go every single week to try their new ramen. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious meal.

Erini N.

Yelp
Pretty crispy and fresh pastries. Very yummy ube cream. Unique flavor combinations. Need a bigger coffee selection. The seating is cosy and simple.

Kim S.

Yelp
I have been wanting to go to Cafe Mochiko ever since I saw a photo of their purple Ube Halaya Croissants and finally got to go this past week. I wanted to try several items, so we order three to share. We got the Ube Croissant, the Egg & Kimchi Croissant, and the Everything Cream Cheese Bao and they were all out of this world! The coffee was very good as well. The space is cute and was buzzing with people coming and going. The only thing that took my rating down to a 4-star is all the tables were dirty. There were probably 8 open tables when we got there and they all were covered with crumbs, so we had to wipe down our own table.

Siyu T.

Yelp
Small japanese cafe that serve amazing pastry and dine in only dinner service. It is always busy and you have to get there early. You are able to get pastry too but the menu is not as vast as in the morning. Recommend the ube croissant and snow pork bun and weekend specials! Mochi panic- savory chewy mochi with ground pork and bean sprouts. Wish there's portion was bigger as it's amazing! A mustt order for appetizer. Katsu sando- the pork cutlet is a little dry. Would be better if there's sauce. They serve rotating ramen and it happens to be chilled tsukemen so the dipping broth is cold. Its sort of unique but I would prefer another type of tsukemen served with warm dipping broth. Still give tsukemen a try when they released other flavors as i like their chewy noodles.

Chanel A.

Yelp
Omg, best burger & fries. A real double smash prepared proper. Salty, crispy fries. What more could you ask for??

Jay S.

Yelp
A bit above 4.5, but not completely 5.0 yet. Overall I enjoyed pretty much everything! Sure there are some items that were better than others, but a couple of items really stood out, and it was clear that guests would come for those items. I had both pastries here during the day and dinner here afterwards, both on the same day. I missed the ube halaya croissant, and I saw people coming in after me, realizing that the croissants were out for the day, promising to come back the next day for them. That made me feel like I missed out. However, the kimchi & egg croissant was pretty good, especially after heated up. Of course, one cannot expect the egg to be runny, which of course would've been even better, but what they had was already pretty good I would say. My favorite was the mochi mochi panic, with bean sprouts that tasted so much like home, and the housemade mochi having very soft chewable texture yet not sticking to teeth. The dish was flavorful! Another flavorful dish was the tantanmen. I could tell the broth, which was a bit spicy and very rich in flavor, had quite a bit of spice, and the fresh coriander on top, albeit not common in East Asian food, worked out very well. The dish is nowhere near traditional, but it worked out very well and I loved the way they made it. I enjoyed the kioke shoyu ramen as well. While I actually normally don't eat pork, I do consume chashu pork that's typically found in ramen. Here in Cafe Mochiko, they use the broth to cook the pork, similar to Vietnamese pho in which the broth would cook the beef. The chashu pork was thinner and resembled sliced pork you can find in hot pot a bit more, which was interesting. The broth I could tell had a lot of meat flavor because I could taste the pork in it (the kind that I don't eat which my palate is very sensitive to), and I have attributed it to authenticity. The katsu sando has a huge piece of pork cutlet in it, and was really great in both texture and flavor, as the sandwiches contained contrast for both, offering a comprehensive tasting experience. The potato salad was also very flavorful, having a sweet yet vinegary type of taste. This place is located in East Walnut Hill, and there are quite a few food spots around it. While this place doesn't have desserts, Hello Honey is pretty much right next door for those interested in some ice cream afterwards! Oh, and I arrived at 5pm for dinner. By 5:05pm, they were entirely packed.

Shantell P.

Yelp
Speaking only on the bakery items here but I enjoyed Cafe Mochicko! It is decorated very nicely, I loved the Japanese elements like studio Ghibli playing on a TV. We arrived shortly after they opened and there was quite a line so I would come knowing you may wait a bit. The line went quick and you let the workers know what you would like once you get to the front. The bakery items we got were great! All baked with love and I highly recommend the Ube croissant. It was light and airy. The only slight was I wish the everything bao was more fluffy like a bao rather than a bagel. We will be back and would love to check out their non-bakery items as well.

Harsha S.

Yelp
I spotted this place when I was looking for bakeries in the area. What caught my eye was the Japanese-French fusion items they serve. I got here about 10 minutes after it opened and ended up waiting about 15 minutes in line. It was totally worth the wait! I got the following four items - two savory and two sweet. Everything Bagel Bao (3/5): The bread was a bao like consistency with everything bagel seasoning. It had cream cheese stuffed inside and we were able to pull away about six separate sections. Kimchi and Egg Croissant (4/5): This was my favorite savory one. What would have made it better would have been if the egg was a little more soft-boiled. The kimchi stood out well. Sweet Corn Bibingka (3/5): This was like sweet cornbread with what seemed like shaved butter on top. I wasn't really a fan. Ube Halaya Croissant (5/5): This was hands down my favorite item. The Ube Halaya wasn't incredibly strong and the cream was light and airy. The croissant was flaky and had really good structure. I'd get this in a heartbeat.

Isabel E.

Yelp
The pastries here are amazing! They are so detailed and delicious. However, you need to come early to get them. They will sell out much before the morning hours of the shop. The indoor seating is large and the light shines in beautifully.

Carolyn Y.

Yelp
What better way to wait out rain to run than to pick up pastries from Mochiko?! I've enjoyed their dinner service a few years ago but never had a chance to try their pastries. I arrived at 9:03am on a Saturday am. Doors open at 9:00am and was shocked at the line. There's a reason why they're so popular. The good news is the line moves quickly, but you need to know what you want. I made a list while waiting in line and when I got up to the counter, I rattled off my order: chocolate croissants, ube croissants, chocolate chunk cookie, BBQ pork bun, kimchi & egg croissant, sweet corn bibingkas. Everything is fresh and exceptional. I really love how they represent various Asian cultures in beautifully-baked masterpieces that are equally delicious! Plus side: Each pastry is reasonably priced!

Si Siew T.

Yelp
I'm back for dinner again!!! The last them they had tsukeman I arrived too late and wasn't able to get it as they sold out. That's was the yuzu tsukeman. So this time, I made sure I got there when they opened and managed to get their shrimp tsukeman! Mochi mochi panic was a must for me. And that is the one dish that I loved. Ordered their karaage, too! This time round, we got fewer chicken pieces, but they were bigger. So I guess it's the same? For the highlight, shrimp tsukeman, I actually like the texture of those noodles more than the noodles in their ramen. So that's still my favorite. There's a lemon slice in the soup, too! Soup was rich and flavorful, but lowkey sad there's no shrimp in it. Other than that, it's a nice treat!

Ann S.

Yelp
We really liked our pastries from Cafe Mochiko. We bought several - couldn't tell you their names because I was focused on eating them! So delicious! We had a couple savory items (a bao and a corn muffin - my boring identification of them in no way reflects the deliciousness of them!) and a few sweet things (a Tara donut, a lemon meringue pastry that was out of this world!). Service was super helpful and we sat in the cute cafe for a bit before loading some of our treats into a box to share with folks at home. Parking is on street or in nearby lots. We will definitely be back -- and I hear the evening menu is worth another visit too!

Mystica M.

Yelp
I love the baked goods that come from this bakery!! Consistent and delicious every single time, they never fail to amaze me when they change up the menu with a new sweet treat that has such distinct flavors! Sometimes when they get busy they refuse to heat up bagels and such which ends up decreasing the quality of that particular product. Workers are always pretty kind and when they're not busy they chat with you which is a plus. Price wise, it's not so bad for being such a unique product and experience. Prices range depending on the product. Anywhere from like $4-$9 per item. I've always loved every single sweet treat!

Marieke S.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Friday night, and stopped by a few weeks later for breakfast - happy that I have now experienced 2 different but wonderfully flavorful meals here! Totally worth the awards and hype :) For dinner, we got the mochi mochi panic, kabocha raisu, shiitake don, and tantanmen ramen. It was a spread but we wanted to try a variety, and safe to say no plate was left unfinished. The kabocha raisu was absolutely delicious, it reminded me of risotto. I could have eaten a full dish of this!! The mochi was unique, the combination with the ground beef and veg toppings was a good savory pairing alongside the raisu. We enjoyed both entrees, the tantanmen would have been little too spicy for me but perfect for my fiancé. For breakfast, we got the ube halaya croissant, everything cream cheese bao, sweet corn bibingka, and a basil/pineapple/coconut cake. Again, another spread.. but no leftovers ;) the cake was SO GOOD. Not a common combination but the flavors complimented each other so well, and although I think this would also be perfect in the summer, it was a nice light cake for winter. The bibingka reminded me of corn bread (naturally) but had a great moist texture that held together really well (unlike a lot of corn bread). Like the addition of shredded cheese on top and I think ricotta in the middle. The croissant and bao were good, can't go wrong with an everything bagel seasoning and slightly fruity croissant!

Katarina S.

Yelp
The best casual Asian food. We enjoyed everything we got, from fried chicken, to mochi, to fried rice with eggs. The prices are reasonable as well.

Zohabe B.

Yelp
After being recommended Cafe Mochiko countless times, I was able to stop in for some pastries. The Woodburn area is very nice and the interior is simple, but welcoming. The service was good and quite prompt. The Ube croissant and the kimchi egg croissant were both great with the latter stealing the show. The scone was ok and not something I would get again. I'm excited to come back and try the dinner options!

Charles T.

Yelp
I have been to this restaurant at least five times and should have reviewed it sooner. This is a staple for anyone looking for Japanese dishes in the Cincinnati area. They offer authentic dishes during their dinner service some of which rotate in and out. Their breakfast service consist of amazing pastries that have been nominated for the James bread award. Their best dishes consist of the karrage and the mochi mochi panic. They make an amazing Hokkaido burger for those less adventurous palates. Their ramen broth is light and flavorful. They even have the heavy hitting sunline chilli inspired ramen that is a hit with the locals. The service can be a bit slow sometimes since it's a small kitchen, but this place is a gem and will be frequented by me for as long as I live in the area.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
It was delicious. I visited on Saturday morning. The line was around the entire restaurant to the door. The team at the door was working hard and very kind and ready to describe each item ingredients. I highly recommend this great bakery.

Charles H.

Yelp
Great food & atmosphere. The Cincinnati style ramen was interesting & tasty, the truffle ramen was fantastic.

Carolyn B.

Yelp
Went here with some friends. Only got some desserts but will go back for ramen or a sandwich next time. The thing I loved and had not had before was the ube croissant. Beautiful in color, filling was so creamy and tasted delicious. Ube is a purple yam so it lends this fantastic color to the filling. It ends up being a feast for your eyes as well as your tummy. The owner was a James Beard finalist so that should tell the story.

John S.

Yelp
Super tasty food and I loved the space. They had a TV playing old movies on VHS (when we went it was Shrek). The waitress even offered to change the movie once it was over!

Peter J.

Yelp
The Cincy chili soup was dead on. The sandwich was dead on. Great food and a busy restaurant.

Allison O.

Yelp
This review is for the dinner service only! We love Mochiko bakery in the daytime, so we were excited to try their dinner offerings. The place is bustling; we waited around 15 minutes on a Sunday evening but can get up to an hour. The service is lovely and timely. Many drinks to choose from, but the sake juice box was charming and on the cheaper end. For food we recommend the Mochi Mochi Panic; soft and pillowy homemade Mochi rolls in a ground pork-riddled soy glaze. It was our favorite! The Hokkaido smashburger was alright; we weren't asked how we liked the Patty done so it comes out well done (but still soft); the fries were more of a hit. The ramen of the night had pork chashu and a wonton. The soft boiled egg was overdone but otherwise it was a solid bowl. I would definitely come here again and try different things on their rotating menu!

Jane R.

Yelp
Such a cute place! My friend and I wanted to try out this place and we had the ube croissant, kimchi egg croissant, and apricot pastry. The ube croissant was so fluffy, airy, and not too sweet. Definitely a treat and delicious snack! I highly recommend checking this place out

Jenna C.

Yelp
We came on a Saturday around 11am and were able to get a good selection of pastries. The kimchi and egg was a great savory breakfast pastry. The BBQ Pork buns had a yummy filling. The kids favorite was the ube buns, however the ube croissant was my definite favorite. We also tried the iced hojicha latte, which was really good. Not sweet if you're looking for a sweeter drink, but a great tea alternative to coffee. So happy to find a bakery with unique Asian flavors.

Tina G.

Yelp
Congratulations to the owners and baker who has a James Beard Award nomination for best bakery. ....justly so! Check them out. They don't do carry out, and the wait is about 39 minutes during the weeknights and probably much longer on Saturdays.

Ryan G.

Yelp
Excellent ramen! Very friendly and helpful staff. Plan to make this a regular stop on our list.

Sonam P.

Yelp
Came here with some friends for the second time. I love this bakery/cafe. I don't think I've had a single bakery item I didn't like. My favorite bakery item is the ube croissant and the cardamom scone so far. There is so much flavor in every bite. The combination of flavors work so well together. I have gotten the Katsu sandwich which is so crispy and flavorful. Last night I got the Cincinnati chili ramen. I have to say it does taste just like Cincinnati chili but wish there was still an authentic ramen flavor or twist to it. I was expecting something special since it's been raved about and come back as a special so many times but I didn't feel like I was eating ramen at all. I will have to try the traditional ramen next time. I've heard so many great things about the food and can't wait to make my way through more menu items. They open at 5pm for dinner and there is always a line and wait. This time the wait was 1 hour so just plan accordingly that you'll have to wait for a bit but it's worth it. If you want bakery items you have to come early. They are nice enough to let you do a phone order which I like, because I can't make it in early and so I can still try some delicious treats. I do wish they'd get more severs to help them. We had to keep asking for everything 2-3 times before it was done. From bringing more water, to an extra glass (we were given only 4 for a table of 5), to missing parts of the order, to take out containers, etc...it was just hard to get the attention of a server and then a lot of effort to keep looking out for them. The staff is all friendly and nice but I do hope they get some extra hands to help out. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Mochiko for pastries and their dinner items.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Food was delicious! I smashed my entire spicy ramen bowl. Probably should have stopped eating it earlier because I was so full you could have rolled me out of the restaurant. Our server was very attentive and kind. Ambiance is casual. We will definitely be back for our ramen fix!

Rebecca M.

Yelp
Small place so arrive early for no wait. The service is always decent for the small staff they have. I always get the Cincinnati style ramen but I am going to have to try the burger as it looks and sounds amazing!

Emily J.

Yelp
The Skyline Style Ramen was the reason we came here. It's super cute and right next to a pub so you can grab a drink while you wait, if you'd like. The chili ramen- if you're along for the food fusion ride, then you'll enjoy this. It tastes like skyline, but more broth-y. As a note: it is just skyline ingredients with an egg. There aren't any other ramen bells and whistles. The chicken karrage- perfectly crispy and portioned really well. Worth a try if you're extra hungry Note:

Yelp
On our single day in Cincinnati, we were planning to get the Cincinnati Chili Ramen from Cafe Mochiko since we heard so much about it. Unfortunately two problems would stymie our quest: that morning, the store had a electrical power issue that closed all dine-in. Ramen is one of those dishes you should never get takeout for! But more importantly, they mentioned that the dish had been rotated out of the menu at the time so we couldn't have gotten it anyways. Luckily, they also have a bakery section we were looking forward to as well. We opted to get two of the pastries: Ube Halaya Croissant - This is a crisp and well laminated croissant filled with ube cream and jam. The ube flavor really shines through in the cream. There were some coconut shreds in the jam which was a little unexpected but not unpleasant. Be sure to eat this one fast - we waited a bit too long and the cream soaked into the bottom layer of the croissant. Earl Grey Chocolate Chunk Scone - This is a really good scone. A very nice baked crisp finish accented by an additional layer of crunchy sugar crystals glazed on top. The Earl Grey flavor really comes out in this scone and it pairs very well with the layers of chocolate melted within. I regret we did not get anything else. We will definitely be back if we ever visit Cincinnati again.

Lou S.

Yelp
lovely little spot! cute decorations and very sweet staff. the thai tea snickerdoodle and bbq pork snow bao were both lovely! the hot coffee was a nice blend as well. only disappointment was that they were sold out of the mochi donuts. was told they sell out quickly some days, and evidently friday at noon is not the best time, but i'll be returning for them again when i'm able. :)

Alex P.

Yelp
Awesome ramen place with very unique ramen. This is the only place on this planet to get chili styled ramen.

Vy D.

Yelp
What a cute little shop, with such delicious offerings. There's some paid street parking and a lot across the street. There's a small amount of seating and a beautifully decorated cafe. The ambiance was calm, cozy, and bright. There was an ordering window, but it was closed today. They were pretty busy, but the line moved fairly quickly. I got the Ube Croissant, Sweet Corn Bibingka, Guava Brie, and a BBQ Snow Bun. The Ube Croissant was absolutely delicious, soft, flakey, and sweet. It was my favorite pastry that I got and I believe their most popular flavor. I thought the Guava Brie was yummy, sweet, and creamy but the bun itself was a bit dry. The BBQ Pork Bun was sweeter than expected, but deliciously worked well and flavorful. The Sweet Corn was decent, I also felt that it was a bit dry and hard, but the taste was good. Overall, I thought the buns were delicious, but a bit pricey. I would definitely come here once in awhile for a nice treat. Staff was nice and they were working hard to crank out those orders. I was in line for about 20 minutes, but it was pretty fast and once I ordered, it took a couple minutes. I would recommend for a treat, casual date, breakfast, some coffee, or for a cozy space to enjoy a snack.

Angel E.

Yelp
Love love love their pastries! Everytime we have friends in town we treat them to Mochiko and it's a hit! The place itself is cute but I've never sat to enjoy the pastries in the morning since the line wraps around and I feel like people would be watching me eat haha. I also finally had the chance to try the dinner menu. The restaurant is small so it fills up fast, but service is great. We had the chicken and mochi for appetizers and they're so good! I'm picky about ramen and I got the junk ramen, it was tasty but a bit on the oily side for me.

Yelp
So I came here strictly for the pastries lol. Before we had moved to Cincinnati, I did a bunch of research on restaurants and bakeries that I wanted to hit on my list. Cafe Mochiko was definitely one of them because it sounded very unique and very quaint. Also the photos of the pastries look super divine. I'm a pretty practical person and I don't like to spend a lot of money, but when it comes to really good pastries, I'm here to drop some dough lol. It took me 30 minutes to get here so you damn know well that I bought a ton of pastries lol. The croissant ube was really good. I'm typically not a ube fan but this was really good because the flavor was very light and the cream filling was also light. The quality of the croissant itself was really good and I really love me a legit croissant. I also ordered the snow bao and it was good. It's not like your traditional char siu bao because the meat inside were bigger chunks, but the flavor was definitely there. Lastly I ordered a bunch of cookies and I'm not a huge cookie fan, but I bought those for my husband and he really loved those. He said the black sesame was very different for a type of snickerdoodle cookie. Overall, I'm a fan. I will definitely come back here and next time I'll try their dinner menu.

Yelp
This place operates in two modes: a daytime cafe and bakery with a small selection of beverages and distinctive pastries, and as a restaurant at night, with fairly limited days and hours for both operations. The restaurant menu had a couple of modest vegetarian things but didn't really win me over. I went for the cafe and found an enticing display. Of the several intriguing flavor fusions I considered, I ended up eating a taro mochi donut there and taking a sobacha chocolate chip cookie to go. The donut was somewhat softer and stickier than mochi donuts I've had elsewhere, and the flavor was mild as one might expect for taro. The cookie delivered more sweetness, but on a background of an earthy buckwheat flavor. My hojicha milk tea was, as with the food items, a fairly subtle and nuanced flavor. I would go if inventive Asian flavors excite you.

Yelp
The staff was very friendly. You order at a counter but I didn't see a menu anywhere. We ended up just going with coffee and pastries. I got the milk tea which is very earthy. If you like green tea I would give it a try. We ordered 3 different desserts from the case. Our favorite was the pudding one that is vegan. We also got the early grey chocolate chip cookie which was tasty. The pink one is a strawberry cream pasty which was a little much for me. It is more of a tart strawberry flavor. Very unique!

Yelp
Cafe Mochiko is easily one of the best restaurants in Cincinnati. This delightful little cafe may have a small menu but w erythema g we've tried has been great. If you can I would highly recommend going when their special is the Cincinnati Style ramen. It is absolutely fantastic! The Waugh burger may seem like the odd dish out here but it's also with checking out. The staff is always super friendly and very attentive. They seem genuine when saying "hope to see you again". It's refreshing to see an entire team seemingly enjoying their job. The restaurant is tiny hit but cramped. It's decor is minimal but cute and there's even a vintage TV and NES set up in one of the corners.

Yelp
Oh My GOD. When I first heard that there was a new James Beard Nominee in Cincinnati, I knew I had to stop by at this new spot. When I realized that it served up Filipino and Japanese treats, it was game over. As someone who lives on the East Coast, I was not expecting to find such a wonderful spot serving up Asian inspired pastries here in the little town of Cincinnati, but I was more than pleased! We ordered: - Ube Halaya Croissant (SO, SO good. this is a MUST) - kimchi and egg croissant (Pretty good--good savory option. The egg is cooked through and not the runny kind) - monkey bread (very yum--I believe this was made with their croissant dough - earl grey scone (SO good--crumbly with amazing earl grey flavor - taro mochi donut (least favorite--I like mochi donuts, but this one didn't do it for me) - sobacha chocolate chunk cookie (delicious) I also ordered the Hojicha milk tea. Everything was absolutely WONDERFUL. As for must orders, ube halaya croissant looked super filled, but the ube cream was soft, light, and super flavorful. The croissant itself was also one of the best croissants I've had--definitely one of the best croissants in the Cincinnati area. The earl grey scone is another must order for me. This was extremely delicious and one of the best scones I've had. And lastly, the sobacha chocolate chunk cookie was phenomenal. I bought this for my picky-father-in-law and he said it was one of the best cookies he's had. Overall, I cannot wait to return here next time I'm in Cincinnati to order ALL the pastries again. I also look forward to trying their dinner menu!

Yelp
My little sister had wanted to try their goods, as she's a former pastry chef and saw the praise they've been receiving (James Beard award nomination!). I'd heard great things myself, including from my partner who had dined here with a friend, and also had one of their pastries brought back. I stopped in early on a Friday, and picked up a donut and a croissant, because the employee informed me; "These are the most adventurous sweets we have." Exactly what I wanted! I took them out to the east side to visit with my sister and we split the goods up. First of all; both were amazing, and had complex flavors that were not just "super sweet", as both had elements of umami (butter and salt in the croissant, earthiness of the donut). These compliment the great textures, soft flaky, fluffy, or crunchy and chewy, these pastries are a whole experience. I got a bit of sticker shock at first, but the price corresponds with the quality and I'm much happier with these than what I would have received from a cheaper product.

Yelp
Both in Cafe and Bakery Mochiko impresses on qualify, flavor, price, and staff. Rating 10/10 | Cost w/ Tip $19 Pros: Great flavors and fair prices. Cons: Limited parking options. For the bakery I have little to say as my GF bought the desserts for a friend but both of them loved everything (especially the ube treats) and everything looked fresh and well made. For the Cafe even on a Thursday it was packed but there queue was fair, and their staff move quick to clear tables. The interior is simple in a good way with movable tables and chairs and I believe on a non busy day it might work well for a group. The food was perfect. I am not a big burger person but I get theirs every time. At $16 for a double patty and fries it beats out every other burger place on cost alone. On top of that the bun is unique with a starchier soft build to avoid becoming soggy, the "mayo" is improved on the american standard, and the other flavors and cook of the meat is perfect without asking for alterations. I would invite anyone here day or evening for a cosy, casual, quality meal!

Yelp
I have been stalking Cafe Mochiko on Instagram for almost a year and I was finally in town and able to try their pastries. They fulfilled my wildest dreams. It was so hard to pick a favorite, because everything was wonderful. The mochi donut was arguable one of the more unique items, and I loved the texture. But the everything bao and corn muffin tasted amazing. The miso peanut butter cookie was great, although the miso flavor was just more subtle. I got a box for my family to share...but I ended up eating most of it. Their pastries are a splurge, but well worth it for a unique menu and items I could never dream of making in my own kitchen. I'm counting down the days until my next visit!

Yelp
Love everything about Cafe Mochiko. Top favorites are karaage, mochi mochi panic, Hokkaido smashburger and katsu sando. Great service- the food always arrives very quickly and piping hot. The ambiance is very welcoming and clean.

Yelp
Really like it! The environment is good. Easy to park. The service was great! And the food was awesome! We also ordered the lucky dog sake and liked it so much. We sat at the bar because it was always busy. Hopefully they could have more seating for customers. They don't do take out so you have do dine in. A tip is to be there early, like when they just opened. They have bakery in the morning and the their bakery is pretty good too.
