"Cheburechnaya is a restaurant that specializes in the Jewish food of Uzbekistan — with Russian flourishes. The food is splendidly inexpensive and includes plov (Central Asian pilaf), pastries with lamb and chicken, fist-sized manti dumplings, composed salads and bread dips, flatbreads prepared on the premises (try the parabolic cracker noni toki), and one of the city’s best collections of kebabs. These include chicken, lamb, beef, veal sweetbreads, and calves’ liver, and sometimes chunks of meat are separated by lamb tail fat to enhance succulence." - Eater Staff

"Named after meat-stuffed turnovers called chebureki, this kosher Uzbek restaurant specializes in kebabs, and several involve organs. Due to their high fat content, the lamb or veal sweetbreads (in this case, the thymus gland) are especially good at absorbing the smell of the smoking charcoal over which they’re cooked, and are also bargain priced at this BYOB spot in Rego Park." - Robert Sietsema

Yelp
Outside, looking inside, the windows are tinted, so it looks like it is empty. However, if you look closely, there are tables and people inside. It's fairly large inside. I found this place through Yelp and Google maps. I was very curious as to the food they were serving. We ordered the Chebureki Special, which are deep friend turnovers with a filling inside of it. They are widely known in Eastern Europe. This was my first time having it, and I enjoyed it along with the sauce. We got the piloff, too, which was a huge portion of rice that has vegetables and meat chopped up and mixed, which would be enough for three or four people. Last but not least, two skewers were ordered too, which were the lamb ribs and quail. They really didn't skimp on the portion size, and it was great when they brought out sriracha as the hot sauce. Overall, besides the slow service in the beginning, everything else was great.

Yelp
A diamond in the rough, off the beaten path but a spring of fantastic food Traditionally eastern European food, a great establishment without the bells and whistles Prices are awesome and yet better, the flavors Would visit again 10/10 Plus staff have cool uniforms...it was steampunky but simple...not sure how to describe it but it made me enjoy my experience more The atmosphere was clean and traditional, lots of wooden framing, furniture, and walls, which I like

Yelp
I love the food. The service is always just fine. The ambience is also decent. However, I hate to say it, and this is just my experience, I feel like it has struggled to upkeep a clean in sanitary environment for patrons.

Yelp
Server Julie was very kind & extremely patient! Thank you for taking such great care of us! We can't wait to be back!

Vinika K.

Yelp
Delicious food at reasonable prices. Great selection of Russian and Uzbeki cuisine. I usually come here for lunch, the interior is a bit old school and not enough to use this place for dinner. Portions are big and you can get Pilaf that will feed 4ppl for $15. Most of the time I end up taking food to go as it's so much to eat. Recommend for lunch for sure.

Kann T.

Yelp
Their fried things are on the dry side. Definitely need the sauce to come with it. The place is big with tons of seating but there is a lot of people coming in playing music at times. Their service is just okay, we do have to flag them down if needed.

Yelp
I've heard rumours about this place for awhile and finally got to try it. It is Central Asian cuisine, which is meat and cumin heavy. One thing I'm very particular about is lamb and how it is cooked. The lamb here is tender, seasoning is perfect, and they have several choices. If you're not into lamb fat, you can get a leaner version of the kebab, which I think was a great idea. The pilaf I had was the green, and it was not too fatty or greasy like some plov that I have had at other places. It had lamb bits and a delicious combination of green spices (I'm still trying to figure out exactly what was in it so I can attempt a version at home!) The samsa and cheburek were also excellent, not too greasy. One variety had tender chopped mushrooms inside. The waitresses were perfectly charming. I would recommend it!

Yelp
The food! We got the Plov, Manti, samsa, steak shish kebabs and some Russian soda. Food is delicious! We ate it before taking a picture but trust us- it does not disappoint. All dishes are so flavorful and unique. Service is prompt and they're very family friendly in terms of ambiance. Looking forward to coming back and this time taking pictures of the delicious dishes!

Anna K.

Yelp
There are tinted windows but upon a closer look - they are open! We decided to check out this place for lunch and I'm glad we did. Their fried "dumplings" are delicious with a great side sauce - sort of like salsa. We also tried a lamb and veggie grilled skewer. Very affordable and great lunch spot.

Yelp
I don't know much about Uzbek food, but this place is one of my family's favorite restaurants in the city overall. Delicious salads, nice waitstaff and affordable prices. The sweetbreads kebab is one of our favorites-- succulent and tender, the chebureki is amazing-- meaty and soupy on the inside with a crispy flakey crust, the house salad is always a winner, and I'm a huge fan of the pelmeni soup and manti's. Strongly recommend!

Joseph Y.

Yelp
Delicious place. I was continuously surprised at this place. The service is pretty good and the ambiance is pretty clean and comforting. Even if it's a first try at the type of cuisine definitely try this place. Great portions and great food. Couldn't be any better than that.

Yelp
Came here with my fiancé on the way home from running an errand because this has been on my list for a while! Around 5pm on a Monday night, the place was pretty empty but we had really good service! Ordered the deep fried cow's brain, sweet bread, salad and soup. It was my first time having cow's brain and uh.. I think it tastes a bit like oyster?? Definitely interesting but also not knocking it out of the park if I had to try it again. Wasn't bad! Sweetbread... my fiancé ordered this and I didn't really know what I was until I got it. Wasn't bad either!! Actually one of my fav. Salad - bigger portion than we thought but we loved every single bite. Lamb dumplings - I'm not the biggest fan of lamb at ALL but this was actually good!! Doesn't have the gamey texture that I hate .. quite subtle. Overall, great Uzbek restaurant - super authentic and is a must try!!

Yelp
It was very clean and spacious. Excellent and prompt service. We tried samsa, mantu, Pilaf, etc. Samsa was very bland, and the dough was not light and crispy. Mantu was very juicy. It would have been better if the sauce would be spicier. Pilaf was so so, lukewarm and bland. However, we loved their tomato and carrot salads.

Kevin L.

Yelp
From what I understand/what local Russian folks have told me, there aren't any good Russian restaurants in Queens, so Russians in the community resort to Uzbeki and Georgian food to stifle their cravings. Well this is the Uzbeki option. Very good value and flavourful foods. To be honest, I come just for the appetizers but I do sometimes get the shish kebabs. Other entrees or sides like the pilaf just aren't as good. Definitely get a few Cheburek, for the namesake, and maybe some Samsi as well. I'm a bit more attached to the Samsi, just because it's baked rather than fried. Most of the fillings are pretty good, but if you're short on stomach space, maybe skip the mushroom/potato fillings. Favourite Samsi is strangely the one with pumpkin filling- pumpkin and black pepper just go so well with each other. And with every order, you'll have a nice metal saucière with a tomato based sauce that pairs perfectly with everything. You'd be doing a disserve to yourself if you didn't partake. I do have the occasional craving for Pelmeni, which I would describe as something akin to a wonton soup, or Lagman just for those thick doughy noodles. Lastly, to address the elephant in the room, Lamb Testicles are a go, but the Beef Brains are a pass. But then again, I don't share Southern desire to eat deep-fried butter at country fairs.

Yelp
Very nice and polite service and good food. I like Chantel and kebabs. And garden salad

Bella I.

Yelp
A hidden gem. The prices are amazing, just like the food. Everything is fresh and delicious, but did not take long for the waiter to bring to us. All ingredients were top quality. The shashlik was tender. Everything was flavorful and seasoned to perfection. They have their namesake, the Chebureki, perfected. The waitresses are very kind and sweet. They speak Russian, English, Bukharian etc. An authentic Central Asian experience atmosphere. They have a bathroom in the back. It's pretty big with spacious seating.

Michael K.

Yelp
While the service and atmosphere is amazing here, the food however is absolutely awful. I had the lagman soup, which was alright, but every other BBQ I had, tasted awful.

Rafael A.

Yelp
Cheburechnaya did a great job with their website and have amazing pictures of their food. I first tried the chebureki and when I bit into it, it all started leaking with some kind of broth and I was unpleasantly surprised. I had to first let everything leak out and then I was able to eat them. Next, I had the Samsa and it had a lot of onion and I couldn't really taste the lamb in them. Personally, I don't like onion and I would rather taste more lamb. I then ordered the beef and lamb kebabs. The lamb was one was alright but the beef one was mostly unchewable. I also want to say that the Kebabs were very salty and the sauce that came with them was salty too. For desert beverages, they only offered green tea and coffee. It would be nice if they had more variety. As a side note, I got lucky with parking but it may be hard to find. Overall, I didn't really like the food because it was very salty and could have been prepared better. #

Yelp
Went here for Door Dash pickup the Ambiance was very live & festive with everyone eating & enjoying themselves. The wait wasn't that long. Didn't stay for table service but wanted to go back so I ordered Plov at my job near by for a party. It was Very Good! Plov is new to me but I Ike it w Lamb the best !! It comes w chicken as well. I would like to go back to see what else I can taste that's different from my cultural foods.

Yelp
I came here with a group of 20, who had 3 separate bills, and this place did a great job of accommodating all of us. The food was cheap and delicious. I particularly liked the potato chebureki - a large deep-fried pastry with a lightly crispy exterior and mashed potatoes on the inside. It came with this delicious spiced tomato sauce that I could not get enough of. There are lots of vegetarian options, including several kinds of chebureki, samsy, and other types of dumplings, salads, etc. I left with a full stomach and a satisfied palate. I also really enjoyed dessert. As we had a large group, we ordered and tried all of them. My favorite, by far, was the green baklava, which was not like your traditional baklava. It was compressed minced nuts in a sugar sauce (and possibly green food coloring). The chebureki and green baklava alone make this place worth the 1-hour trek that my friends and I made to eat there. The only reason why I docked a star was because our service got a bit slow as more people came to the restaurant. Perhaps this place could benefit from hiring one more server, at least for the weekend.

Yelp
We were very satisfied with our meal here and I will say, I think the prices are excellent (especially for a Kosher spot!) We got many things to try: skirt steak shish kebabs, lamb shish kebabs, and salmon shish kebabs. The skirt steak shish kebabs were really the stars for me. They were nice and juicy. We also got rice with veggies, which was very good, borscht, and lagman noodle soup. I was not a fan of the lagman noodle soup, as it was completely overpowered with anise. I am not used to that seasoning in my lagman. We got babaganoush, and two salads, both the same except one had olives in it. They were a great portion and had cucumber, tomatoes, onions, and each one had a generous amount of avocado- a very pleasant surprise. Lastly, we got carrot salad and bread as well. Definitely a good spot and I look forward to going back!

Gordon Y.

Yelp
Cuisine: 7 Service: 3 Decor: 5 Value: 7 Overall: 6 The food was not bad, but prefer Salute or Stix more overall. Notable mentions would be the extremely creamy and smokey babaganoush, which was excellent. The namesake fried dumplings were crispy and juicy as well. Service was lacking. It was new year's eve, but come on, we shouldn't have to spend 10 minutes to wave down the waitress for something as small as an extra fork. Good company made it easier, but we came in for a quick meal and that's not what we got.

Aanchal K.

Yelp
Had dinner here earlier today and can still smell the meat being cooked Walking in, you're greeted with this wonderful aroma of food being cooked. I came with a party of 12. My sister's BILS ordered because they're regulars at this spot and I swear every single thing just kept getting better and better. We got pickled veggies and a salad to begin with. The pickled veggies included pickles, cabbage, and peppers. The regular salad had avocado, asparagus, cucumbers etc. it wasn't even a regular salad. It was too good. We then got bread and this flaky doughy dish with potatoes in it- I will butcher the names but it's like Cherukey with potatoes. It's salty and oily and flavorful and tastes really good with their hot sauce on the table. It's delicious. We also got the meat pies - I assumed it would have ground beef in it but it was more like an empanada with pieces of beef and lamb and veggies in it. It was good but not my favorite. The French fries had some sort of seasoning, salty garlic + parsley on it which was also delicious. We got the chicken, lamb, lamb rib with fat and without fat and sea bass. It was all delicious- so freaking good! It's great for people who are low carb, and also meat lovers. It's perfectly marinated, salted and seasoned and I'm already craving more. That hot sauce on the table is your best friend there- it works with every single dish on the menu except dessert. We got a green dessert thing which is like pistachio baklava? Really different, really unique but really good. The service was a little slower than I expected but the servers were sweet and accommodating. They serve wine and beer, but it's also BYOB :)

Yelp
I was so hungry and homesick for my moms Armenian cooking and asked my aunt what she recommended. She said I should try this place so I did. I was not disappointed. It wasn't Armenian food but it was good delicious food that is similar to Armenian food. I decided to try a few things. Borsh, hot black tea, small fresh bread, lamb kebob and lamb cheburechka. Everything was fresh hot and tasty. I will definitely return for another dose before I head back to California

Bing T.

Yelp
We enjoyed the hospitality and ambience - such a good place to bring family and enjoy the food

Michael S G.

Yelp
Had a wonderful lunch here. The service was great and the food was really delicious. Extensive menu of healthy items!

Anthony B.

Yelp
The lamb Adana and lamb ribs are absolutely phenomenal. They also have a butcher shop in the basement

Yitshak S.

Yelp
I had never felt in such a delusional situation, I got a recommendation for the place, so I went with friends, we made an order of the dishes and after a few minutes the waiter asked us to leave the place because they are not going to serve us !! In response to the question of why, they replied that they did not want to take responsibility for the kosherness of the place, just delusional! So let's start by saying that any person who cares a little about kosher, should not think about approaching this dubious place! And no other decent person should support a restaurant that throws people out like that! There are plenty of other places in New York that provide the same style of dining, so why dwell on a restaurant like this ?!

Kent C.

Yelp
Came here for my first ever Uzbek cuisine experience after I was unable to get any service from Shashlichnaya which is located on Queens Blvd. Walked in and the first thing I noticed it how crowded the place was, the noise level was a little on the louder side but bearable. It's pretty confusing since they don't exactly have a host or hostess. But dang within seconds the guy that was busing a table asked me how big my party was and told me I could have the table he was just cleaning up. Definitely off to a good start. Within a few minutes we were seated and greeted with water. Menus were available on the table, sort of like a diner. The waitress tried to get our order but we weren't ready yet so she gave us time to look over the menu. After a few minutes I flagged her down and she came over and patiently took my order. Ordered 2 cheburekis, one meat and one veal, 1 beef kabob, 1 chicken layla kabob, 1 salmon kabob and green pilaf. After a couple minutes we noticed another woman that worked there made sure our waitress took our order since she noticed we were sitting there for a while without food. Appreciated the attentiveness. The cheburekis came out first then the green pilaf, followed by the kabobs. The cheburekis were delicious and so juicy on the inside. In all honesty the tasted really similar but man on man the sauce was awesome, I could eat that sauce with a huge bowl of rice. The green pilaf was very lamby tasting, not sure why, but for someone who likes lamb I really loved it. The kabobs were good, nothing special, they were cooked very nicely and still quite tender and juicy. The entire meal for the 2 of us cost under $30 per tip. Great food and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be going back especially for more cheburekis!

Marijan C.

Yelp
Was there for Sunday Fathers Day lunch, great place with phenomenal grill and salads, relaxed family style ambiance and very fast and courteous service, very affordable and acceptable prices, always recommend!

mike m.

Yelp
Delicious fresh food made with heart and soul. Service is quick ! Amazing pricing, Flavor flavor flavor wow Would highly recommend

Wong C.

Yelp
Food was mediocre at best. Ordered veal sweetbread and it tasted mainly of fat and nothing else. Salad was okay, there were pieces of stale celery in there but whatever. The soup (I forget,) was very salty and oily. The two meat pastries served for the lunch special was crispy on the outside, soggy on the inside, and had very little filling. I waited 10 minutes for my check, because the waiter was talking to a couple a table ahead of me for ten minutes about stuff. The total for everything including a "18 percent gratuity fee" was 31.80. Next time I'll just go to Ocky's bodega.

Menashe A.

Yelp
Thank you very kind Get there everyday and just never regret it I really like the food there and the service is good thanks

Spartak1a ..

Yelp
It was my go to place for many years. I have to stop now. Reason number one is your lamb kabab are very hard shew and looks like lately the meat is not fresh. Yes, I can tell the smell and taste of lamb vs smell and taste of spoiled lamb meat. Reason number two... just look at the picture. Usually restaurants include service fee for a party of at least 6+ people. And nowhere on the wall I saw a sign warning me of this practice. Customer have to decide how mush tip he is gonna leave. Sorry, but you just lost a customer...

Chrystina C.

Yelp
Affordable deliciously simple food. Must get the chicken wings, babaganoush and bread. The wings are so juicy and flavorful, freshly grilled to perfection. The babaganoush is to die for, so addictingly good. Also notable mentions: salmon skewer, beef noodle soup, and potato chebureki.

Tyler R.

Yelp
Food is good but service is bad, like very bad, they don't check on you or get you water when you ask for it. They are very slow.

Ian H.

Yelp
Good lord. So good. Found this place due to a "I'm bored and I'll see what's nearby" Yelp search while we were having a car inspection. Riveting, I know. Anyhow, swore we would check it out as I have never had Uzbek food. Finally came here and...it is ridiculous.

Sam M.

Yelp
For a kosher Uzbek spot, this place is way more affordable. Living in Brooklyn, the kosher Uzbek food is way more expensive so I was very impressed with the prices. Not to mention the food here is very tasty and the portions are larger than expected. The "fresh salad" in particular was huge with two pieces of asparagus and half an avocado added to chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and greens tossed in olive oil; it reminded me of my Russian grandmothers salad. The hangar steak kebab was by far superior to any other beef kebab I've tried in queens. I like mine well season however, so if you don't like that I wouldn't order it. Their baba ganoush and freshly baked bread were amazing as well. Also the service was very satisfactory; our waitress was prompt to bring us anything we needed. I would definitely return.

Vasi B.

Yelp
Always on point and the prices are great. Very busy! The meats and fries and soups and salads - all a hit. They have unconventional dishes. Don't be afraid, you won't regret it. Try the borsch, samsa w rib meat, any of the shish kebabs to start. Took off one star bc they overcook the meat sometimes for delivery, but if you eat onsite it's a great place.

Carissa C.

Yelp
Every time you pass by this place during the prime times, the smells from the grill just draw you in. It definitely drew me and my friends in. The menu is quite extensive and for someone who's never had Uzbeki food, I was a total noob Googling all of the names. There are pictures in the menu, but they're very poor quality. My friends and I ordered: * chebureki with mushrooms * chebureki with veal * samcy * babaganoush * lamb ribs kebab * Chilean sea bass kebab * veal sweetbread kebab * salmon kebab * Chersi drinks - 1 tarragon and 1 duchesse pear * green baklava * chak chak All of the food was phenomenal. The seasonings are just right, and they give you a red dill sauce for the dough products that isn't overpowering. The drinks didn't taste like anything special. It reminded me oddly of those 3 for $1 chubby drinks I grew up with. The baklava was way too sweet so I had to scrape off a lot of the sugar and then wash my mouth with water. The reason why this review is missing a star is because of the service. The waitress doesn't know much English so she wasn't much help to amateur eaters. When we were nearing the end of dessert, she disappeared for quite some time and the other waitress who just started her shift was instructed to work the other side of the restaurant. All we wanted was our waitress to give us our check so we can pay for it. There were only 2 tables of 3 by the way and then one group was starting to come in. All in all, I would recommend this place. Don't expect great service, just come for the food.

Pasha D.

Yelp
Wow good was delicious and super cheap!! The best shashlik and chebureki ever ! And they close late too

Lilly M.

Yelp
I gave 4 Star to this place because 1. The waitress spoke no English whatsoever and we had to ask for somebody who can communicate. 2. The miscommunication happened because the menu had only the name of the dish without explaining the ingredients and what it has, thus, we had to ask what each dish was made of. The food was as authentic as it gets here in NYC. Place was clean and service was decent; and above all the food was delicious. I will def go back and I hope the owners update the menu with more explanation.

Nora F.

Yelp
Don't ask me to pronounce the name of the restaurant. I can't! Can you? This restaurant offers some of the best herring! In case you don't know what that is, it's fish! We came to this place many years ago. For whatever reason we forgot to return. We came here with Mommy before too. This time only the two of us and we arrived here for lunch! Hubby ordered herring to start. It serves with some nice potato. Must-order if you're herring eater. It was SO good! We also ordered the salad with the restaurant's name. Another must-have! This salad comes with olive, asparagus, tomato, jalapeño, lettuce, etc. This salad is almost pickle-like salad. Then we had samcy. If you don't know what that is, it's close to potato knish with a delicious sauce. Those things I just mentioned were just a warm-up! The real deal appeared after the warm-up. For our serious lunch, we had quail, chicken with bones, lamb ribs, lamb meat, and chicken wings, on skewers! Must-try them all! I loved the seasoning for meat and poultry, light but tasty. Of course we had left over. You think I could eat all that? That's so mean! Btw we enjoyed the tea. The green tea I ordered was pretty good. They brought some cube sugars to go along with the tea, but I'm a tea-without-sugar-drinker! This is a big restaurant with lots of tables and chairs. It's good for family and friends and parties, very spacious. The service was good, no problem. Awesome meals!

Ben D.

Yelp
Great food reasonably priced. If you're orthodox the kashrut may not be at your level though.

Michelle D.

Yelp
They have outdoor setting and it was set up pretty nicely with fan and tents and all so despite being outdoor it's not hot and you still have privacy from pedestrians. Service was a bit slow at the beginning. Took quite awhile before we were given menu and another while to be given water. however once u ordered, the food came out pretty fast. This was my first time trying Uzbek food and I googled what's the traditional cuisine beforehand. We had: - Manti: these dumplings are H U G E, filled with fatty lamb and onion. If you don't like lamb, DON'T because the aroma is very strong. But if you're like me, ENJOY! Although I have to admit it's very heavy so do share - Lagman: tomato based soup with beef, vegs, noodle. I think it's delicious! It tasted like minestrone with more exotic taste due to the extra spice - Pumpkin samcy: the samcy is SO good. flaky, crunchy, but a little bit doughy on the inside and the pumpkin filling is just nice - Pilaf: which I think is the same as plov. It's tasty and the meat is uber tender when hot but after a while the meat can get a bit tougher. Plus I think it's a bit too greasy. - Kebab: out of curiosity I had the lamb testicle kebab. It's not as weird as I thought. In fact I think it's pretty tasty although it has quite a prominent inner organ scent. The beef skirt is good though (eat it with the red onion to balance the flavor) overall I was satisfied with my experience although I hve to warn you the meal is heavy so do come prepared. The place could be more hygienic but since I enjoyed the food I'd still rate it a 4. Anyway, price wise it's pretty easy on your pocket too

Nigina B.

Yelp
If you are looking for some authentic Uzbek/Russian/Kazakh food, this is the place. The food worth 1 hour train ride. I got shashlyk, lagman, samsy and chebureki. I gotta tell you, this is by far the best shashlyk I tried around nyc! Lagman was too salty/spicy for me, but I usually prefer food on a blander side. I got pastries to go, just tried Cheburek, it was good, very good. Waiting for my friends to try samsa... The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is service. I wasn't offered a water and hmmm I had to ask for a sauce that was missing on my table... So don't have high expectations for the service, and enjoy a really cheap and great food.

Anastasiia T.

Yelp
We like going here: it's delicious and reasonable. Authentic food, perfect menu selection, fresh bread. Service is ok, not a top notch, but good. My favorite here is a Chicken Kebab and BabaGanush.

Ariel H.

Yelp
Great food I really like the service the meat is very good The place is clean and the service is very fast The bread is so crunchy Will definitely come back again

Anastacia T.

Yelp
We came to eat Chebureki right after thanksgiving. It was empty in the morning but food was fresh made. Our server was very nice and fast with our orders. Chebureki were delicious as usual. Lagman was good. Shashlik was fresh. There is nothing to say... only try it because it is delicious and like homemade.
