- Review - Lower East Side - New York - The Infatuation

"Pizza purists, stay in your lane. Everybody else, head to Cuts & Slices’ third location on the Lower East Side. The mini pizza empire made a name for itself off of doughy pies topped with things like saucy oxtail, curry shrimp, and slightly spicy jerk chicken—and lines out front are common. Meeting people who’ve traveled here from out of state, just for oxtail pizza, isn’t unheard of either. photo credit: Willa Moore photo credit: Brendan Edwards photo credit: Willa Moore The prices run higher than your average slice—the oxtail is $13—but when it comes to pizza loaded with jerk chicken and black truffle alfredo sauce, one triangle is essentially a whole meal. There are a few tables inside this East Houston spot, but it's also right across the street from Parkside Lounge, a bar with a pool table that allows outside food. Food Rundown Sweet Chili Oxtail The star slice. The oxtail isn’t a topping as much as it is a sauce, with the sticky-sweet meat clinging to every square inch. Jerk Chicken Black Truffle Alfredo If you've had a soft spot for alfredo on pizza since your Domino's years but always feared judgment, this one's for you. It's creamy with a little funk from the jerk. The truffle gets a little lost, but that's okay. There's more than enough going on here anyway. Curry Shrimp More shrimp on pizza. That’s all we’ve got to say. Don’t knock it until you try it." - Willa Moore

This is such an awesome place serving up delicious and creative slices that will alter your perception of what pizza can be. It’s probably not the place to come for your typical pepperoni or margherita slice but definitely for something unique. I ordered a slice with shrimp curry and one with sweet chili oxtail and they were fire. The crust was decent but the toppings are where they really shine - fully loaded and full of flavor. Yeah, they’re a bit pricier than other slices around the city, but definitely worth it for the innovative and quality ingredients they’re bringing to there pizzas. So glad they’ve opened a spot in Manhattan! I’ll be back!

Google
The oxtail pizzas were great. I really enjoyed the brown stew and curried ones the best. The sweet teriyaki and the sweet chili, not so much, only because I’m not a sweet food person. If you like sweet food, then those two are for you. I prefer savory flavors, that’s all, but it didn’t take away from the experience personally.

Cuts and Slices is AMAZING! We tried the curry shrimp pizza and the oxtail pizza and we were truly blown away there were so many options of pizza and other bites! both pizzas were SO flavoursome, well seasoned and the oxtail was tender and delicious the curry shrimp was also a big win! we have never tasted anything like it and would deffo recommend!

I am in NYC for two days from the UK & this spot was recommended to me. I came on 23rd May at around 8pm. It was over a hour travel by bus and train and walking ( so you know I travelled far just for this spot). Now lets start with the staff/ customer service: 10/10 The staff here really explained the menu asked about what I like eating etc that is price less customer service & made me feel warm and welcome from the manager to the girls serving at the front. They gave real life customer service not that fake “ i got you” but I don’t care service I just want a good tip you get in time square. The food & price was a 7+/10. While each slice yes was expensive I do understand why as you are using prime ingredients. I had a range of pizzas and I enjoyed them all. The lobster one was little too oily but again I am British and we do things a little different nevertheless it was worth it. Investing in Prime ingredients and staff is the key to a great business. Thank you guys.

There are many locations to eat at, and this one is on E. Houston St Manhattan and the pizza are definitely worth the wait. Very creative combinations of pizza like my favorite Black Truffle chicken Alfredo 🍕. Always hot and always delicious!

Google
Randy and his team were so welcoming when we walked in. We tried the curry oxtail and sweet chili oxtail. He also gifted us the lobster black truffle as well. 10 out of 10. I'm from Chicago saying this too. Definitely book marking. The meat was soooooooo tender. I mean wow, I loved it. Best food spot we visited thus far.

Google
Great staff and even better tasty pizza. I accidentally took someone else order and was given that order plus the original order and free pizza slice. They deserve the tip And more. Best pizza in NYC can’t wait to return

Google
So excited that they opened a Manhattan location!! The sweet chili oxtail lived up to the hype, it is an incredible slice. We also loved the buffalo chicken and curry chicken slices. The staff are so awesome and friendly!! Can't wait to try more slices!

Yelp
By far my favorite piece of shop ever. I absolutely love and adore this place the atmosphere is wonderful the customer service is top tier and the food was absolutely delicious and every single time I go I try something new and it's always that good I'm not just saying that I am really dead serious you have to try this place they have all these phenomenal flavors of pizza that I've never heard of in my life but they're so delicious it makes me feel like I'm back home with my grandma what was in the kitchen and I really truly appreciate this place so please go out and try and support this company they have so many different flavors for you to try from and if it's late night you need a little drink this is the place it's very family friendly and even if you just want a quick little pick up I would say go here it's not your ordinary Pizza it's better than your ordinary Pizza

Yelp
I'm still thinking about this place as I'm writing my review. I saw videos on Tik Tok and the Oxtail Pizza looked good. I begin to troll through more videos and pictures for Cuts & Slices. Black-Owned pizza place that has unique different flavors of pizza. The second day in New York we took the train and headed down to Cuts & Slices. We made it around 12:30 in time before the line started to thickin in this place. I get there and look through the glass and O My!!!!! I couldn't even make up my mind. Small dining area with limited seating. On to my pizza review, I ordered the Brown Stew Oxtail Pizza & Jerk Chicken Alfredo Pizza. The flavors were All there in both slices of pizza. Freshly made and prepared with perfection. I wish they had a location near Illnois. The $12.00 was well worth my money and time coming here. The young lady behind the counter was patience and friendly. This place definitely Cut Up with their unique delicious slices of pizza.

Yelp
Super flavorful and creative pizza! We tried the Sweet Chili Oxtail, Curry Oxtail, Chopped Cheese, Chicken Bacon, and the Fried Shrimp & Lobster Truffle Alfredo. The oxtail slices were our favorites--tender, savory, and packed with flavor. They forgot one slice, but honestly, we were stuffed--the portions are huge and loaded. The fried toppings weren't totally our thing, but cool to try. Straightforward takeout vibe, and we'll definitely be back next time we're in town.

Yelp
I don't know if I caught them on an off day or if I'm biased because I'm not the biggest fan of speciality slices but I was highly disappointed because it certainly did not live up to the hype. I was most excited for their coveted oxtail slice. I got the sweet chili oxtail and it was underwhelming and extremely greasy. I must commend them for not skimping on the oxtail though!!! The jerk chicken was under seasoned and dry af. Tasted like a Karen's version of jerk chicken. Def not it. But the onions and peppers added a nice lil crunch which I loved. If the chicken was seasoned well and tender, this would've easily been my favorite. The garlic parm shrimp was full of shrimp, I loved how generous they were with it but the sauce was EXTREMELY salty and the shrimp was overcooked. I took one bite and that was it which was upsetting since it was a $13 slice that was completely inedible. The chopped cheese was the one I thought I would like the least but it ended up being my fav. The beer was seasoned well, I loved the crunch of the onions, and the chimi sauce (mayo/ketchup) brought it all together! I didn't know they served to-go mimosas and I was gonna get one until I saw it was a kids size cup for $15. All in all I really wanted to love this spot, especially because it's black owned. Again, they don't skimp on the toppings which is love! But the execution wasn't all the way there. I like the vibe tho, as you're waiting for your order they def have the tunes playing. Maybe I'll try them again when they first open before I completely write them off as not worth the hype. Ratings (out of 10) Oxtail | 6.4 Chopped Cheese | 7.1 Jerk Chicken | 3.2 Garlic Parm Shrimp | 1.5

Yelp
Came here just to experience the oxtail on a slice and it was super tasty, not too salty. It was strange to have oxtail off the bone and on a slice, but I enjoyed it. It lived up to the hype, but the hype also doesn't mention the price, which is hard to wrap your head around when comparing this place to more conventional pizza spots. I'd still go back if I was in the mood for oxtail.

Yelp
I'm so happy they opened up in the LES! I tried going to the brooklyn Location but the lines were so long and I don't think word broke out in LES yet, so I finally got my oxtail slice. The sweet chill oxtail slice is so the flavors were so good. I love oxtail and it's the perfect mix of flavors, spicy and a tad bit sweet. It was really good. Curry chicken was also good! It's a lil space, and Mano behind the counter was super nice and helpful. All the staff was friendly. I'll def be back soon!

Yelp
The pizza is a cut above, service was quick and helpful, but these are pricey slices. You are paying however for quality upper cut meats.

Yelp
Thank you Zay, Matt, and Julien for your amazing recommendations and great customer service. The food was everything and I will be coming back.

Yelp
Ultimately, pound for pound, this was some of the most unique pizza I've ever had. And I give this a 5 despite thinking the crust was bland and 11 dollars for a slice?? Despite those glaring issues, it's still a 5. Why? You may think I'm crazy. Well....its bc the toppings are exemplary. The toppings are where it's at, and the dough is merely a vesicle for the incredible, unorthodox toppings. Good lord, I couldn't put my slice down. The curry hit so effin hard. I can't wait to come back to try the JERK SALMON. Yeah I said JERK SALMON.

Yelp
Been in L.a watching these cars for a while now. The sweet chili Oxtail lived up to the hype for me. My slice was perfect, I thought I wasn't going to really like it they way I did, the sweet chili wasn't overpowering, and the oxtail was the right amount of spice and season, I was kind of on the full side walking into the joint, but I couldn't resist it. Price point is craaaazy, but hey it's the Hatt! I'll be back like Terminator!
google avatar

Alysha J.

Yelp
Who knew there is a location in LES! The food is still the amazing quality of the original but I have alternatives to waiting the long Brooklyn line! The service is always pleasant. They make me want to take a full pie each time. The combinations are all so good it's impossible to choose just one. The restaurant has a small area for you to wait/ eat a slice and keep it moving.

Yelp
Really amazing. The oxtail, chopped cheese, and shrimp/lobster alfredo were all amazing, with the oxtail being my favorite. Would love to come back and try the other variations of that, especially the curried one. Definitely worth the visit.

Yelp
Cute little spot, the workers were nice. There are way too many options to pick from so I definitely have to go back multiple times to try new slices. I enjoyed the slices I had and look forward to going back

Yelp
I've been eating Cuts & Slices for years now so I'm glad they've branched out to Manhattan. I got the sweet chili oxtail and chicken & waffles slice and they did not disappoint. That oxtail slice is 10/10. The oxtail is tender and that sweet chili sauce is sweet and savory. The chicken & waffles slice is the perfect balance of sweet & savory with waffle & chicken bits doused in syrup. Even though they may not have all the space they need they're definitely making it work. The service is pretty good shout out to the people at the register.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious pizza... generous toppings and delicious crust. I highly recommend the sweet chili oxtail - the flavor was out of this world.... The location on Houston is simple and unpretentious (think: NY neighborhood pizza shop), but the food is amazingly delicious. Staff members are friendly and enthusiastic about the food. I hope to try other toppings and flavors during future visits to NYC.

Yelp
Might be the best bite of food in all of NYC. Legit nicest people and such a fun place. The oxtail here is better than what you get at Tatiana (just ate there last night, very good but not like this). These guys are food geniuses. The curry oxtail pizza is the best pizza I've ever had. It's hard to put into words how good this is.

Yelp
So now they finally opened one on in LES, so happy I don't have to keep schlepping out to Bklyn. Got the usual 2 brown oxtail and garlic shrimp (my fave). But today I got the curry chicken and it was bussin'. I think that's my #2 now. Also got the chopped cheese, which was OK. And the sweetheart Jay from the Brooklyn store is now here, so win-win
google avatar

Chenise M.

Yelp
We tried the sweet chili salmon and the sweet chili oxtail slices. They were both delicious. The place is small so don't come looking to sit and eat the seats are just a few. I like that they have such a variety.
google avatar

Tunaidi A.

Yelp
Cuts & Slices offers so many unique options, all very good. However, my favorite is the oxtail stew. Quality pizza, but also a pretty penny. I get it, the ingredients such as oxtail, shrimp, lobster, etc are pricey ingredients. But I gotta eat 2, 3, or 4 slices at a time. Can't splurge on this kind of pizza often.

Yelp
Had to finally try this place since I went back to NYC for more than 48 hours this time. The oxtail pizza had crazy reviews and I had to try it myself. Now this place has multiple locations and sadly I didn't get to go to the OG location but nonetheless, the pizza was fire. We got the regular oxtail slice; they have different varieties of flavors for the oxtail. We also got the chicken and waffles slice, the jerk chicken slice, and the fried salmon with black truffle Alfredo sauce. The fried salmon tasted the best, then the oxtail, jerk chicken, and then chicken and waffles to me. The fried salmon was cooked perfectly and the black truffle Alfredo just really set it off tbh. The oxtail pizza had plenty oxtail meat on it. It was delicious and mild in flavor. I thought it was delicious. Would definitely eat a whole pizza of that. Next time imma try the sweet and spicy oxtail slice. The jerk chicken was good and flavorful, it has some spice to it. The chicken and waffles were decent but I felt it lacked a lil flavor, but to be fair it wasn't my slice so I only tasted it once. It might be better if I tried the full slice with some sauce. The service was decent here. It was very packed and small like pretty much all NY places but the staff was friendly. They were out of a few options my friend wanted to order and it was only like 6pm so that was a lil weird, but all in all, good experience. I will definitely try this place again because their menu is lengthy.

Yelp
We came to this spot for one thing, a slice of their famous oxtail pizza. Honestly, it was just okay and definitely overpriced for what you got. It was pretty flavorful, but there were little fatty bits in the oxtail which I didn't like. They gave us a slice of the chicken and waffles pizza for free, which was nice, but it was awful. Dry and flavorless, which is probably why it was free! With all the awesome pizza spots in NY, this one was unremarkable.
google avatar

Yelp
Il y a Bon PiZza!!! I got a Shrimp Alfredo Truffle slice and was gifted a PLAIN Slice!!! GReeeeeeeeeeeeeeaT!!!!! Great vibes...FamiliaL energy...at least 3 sets of couple were in the spot sharing their slices. Continued Growth n Success!!!
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
So unique from any other slice in New York. The oxtail is a must and so tender and flavorful. The crust is doughy and filling. A bit pricey but worth it to try once
google avatar

Ray A.

Yelp
Delicious. Came from Boston just to try this pizza chain. Be prepared to wait, not a pick up n go spot. Worth the wait. Had the jerk salmon pizza with a side of oxtail curry fries. Good vibes with the music as you wait for your order. Friendly staff
google avatar

Joey B.

Yelp
The sweet chili oxtail slice is great, the regular oxtail one or whatever isn't that great. And they're a heavy price to pay. The other stuff is whatevs. It's not really pizza, the dough is more like a biscuit or something. I love the sweet chili oxtail slice though.

Tamera A.

Yelp
Doesn't travel well, but maybe if you were warm up it would've tasted better. I got the alfredo jerk chicken it was super dry. I also got the ox sweet thai slice it was good but the crust was hard.

N R.

Yelp
Pizzas alright but I don't get all the hype. Slices should be a bit bigger if charging over $10 per slice. I say go there for the experience otherwise their pizza is way too overpriced.
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
Delicious! Well worth the price for such a unique selection of labor intensive toppings. Deciding which slices to order is the hardest part of visiting C&A. Sweet chili oxtail, chicken bacon truffle Alfredo, and jerk chicken were all excellent. Super nice staff and owner. We will be back!

Meri C.

Yelp
This is the best pizza I've ever eaten. The crust is perfect -- chewy where it needs to be chewy and crisp where it needs to be crisp. The toppings seem odd, but once you bite into your first curry oxtail or jerk chicken slice, you'll understand. Your tastebuds will thank you and it will make every other pizza by the slice seem uninspired. It was busy when we went (a Thursday afternoon) but only a brief wait to be served. Staff was very friendly. Interior was small but you'll probably find a spot to sit and eat if that's what you want to do.
google avatar

T K.

Yelp
Cuts & slices is amazing! The food was fantastic, we had to get the oxtail pizza (we got both versions) and both were phenomenal. By far one of the best pizza places in NYC. The service was good as well and there was a line but it moved very quickly. Will definitely be back!

John V.

Yelp
Ordered a slice of sweet chili oxtail. There was 1 small little slice left I asked the cashier do you have a fresh pie coming he said this is fresh. I didn't want to do too much so I said ok. Literally when he took the slice out to heat it up a whole fresh new sweet chilli oxtail pie gets put in. Still didn't complain or anything. I got the slice and it was literally the smallest slice in the world. I get up and look at the other slices behind the glass and they're all enormous compared to the one I got. I literally received a half slice. Less than half tbh. I PAID $14 FOR LESS THAN HALF A SLICE OF PIZZA. This place literally scammed me out of $14. F this place and who ever thinks they can give out a tiny slice to one customer and an enormous slice to another. $14 FOR LESS THEN HALF A SLICE OF PIZZA. Horrible employees horrible
google avatar

Mark E.

Yelp
This was my first visit AND WONT BE MY LAST WHEN I TELL YOU MY EYES WERE BIGGER THAN MY STOMACH BUT YOU WONT GO WRONG the service was above and beyond because my server took the time to go over the entire menu with me the slices which ever one you decide you won't go wrong and I got the oxtail bake bruh I'm still licking my fingers

Keith M.

Yelp
Amazing pizza! Great service! Fresh Quality Ingredients worth every penny! Best pizza I ever tried in my life! A must try if in NYC area! 10 out 10 chef kiss

Yelp
Straight fire pizza & lots of interesting options to choose from - 100% coming back for sure.
