The Best Dim Sum Restaurants in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Many locals call this one of the best dim sum restaurants in the area. Situated in what looks like an old steakhouse, this place is buzzing every weekend, so be prepared to wait for a table. Don’t sleep on the doufuhua — a traditional “not too sweet” tofu dessert doused in ginger syrup that perfectly contrasts the savory items like braised chicken feet (best in Atlanta), pan-fried turnip cakes, and deep-fried taro balls stuffed with minced pork. Carts roll from opening til 3 p.m., after which dim sum is available all day via the menu." - Candy Hom

The Best Dim Sum in Atlanta

"Find somewhere to wait in this Duluth restaurant where your ankles can be marked safe from roaming dim sum carts. That's because East Pearl gets busy on the weekends, so be prepared to wait—and not get in the way. And it's well worth that wait since their braised chicken feet are fantastic—in fact, they're the best we’ve ever had. Be sure to grab the tofu pudding in ginger syrup, too. It’s a gently sweetened dessert that’s a nice contrast to the plentiful savory items." - candy hom

Had a rare craving for some Cantonese dim sum, and this spot was packed! Mostly groups of two, but they still welcomed solo diners like me with no hesitation — love that. 🙌 Here’s what I tried: 🦐 Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gow) – plump, juicy, thin-skinned and delicious! 🍃 Lotus Leaf Sticky Rice – was told it came with chicken, but I only found a tiny bit of minced pork and sausage. Still flavorful, but missing that promised chicken. 🥢 Radish Cake – would’ve been even better with some soy paste on the side! 🥧 Portuguese Tart – so good! Flaky crust with a rich, creamy filling. Must-try! 💵 Cash payment gets you a discount, which is always a nice surprise.

In ATL, this place can truly be considered an authentic Hong Kong-style tea house. The dim sum is delicious and fresh—the shrimp dumplings are highly recommended, and the lava pineapple bun is the best one. Even if you come for dinner and order Fried dishes, they are full of wok hei (that signature smoky flavor), giving off a real Dai Pai Dong. The dry-fried beef rice noodles (gan chao niu he) is my top recommendation. If you're in ATL and from Hong Kong or Macau, and you're missing the taste of home, this is definitely a spot you need to try.

I wish there were more stars to give! It was clean and beautifully decorated, and the staff was so accommodating. The food was plentiful and so delicious. We had so much leftover, we got to eat it again the next day, and we loved it all over again :-)

Google
Very good food. My favourite was the short rib but the beef stomach stew was mediocre though. Will come back.

Haven't been to East Pearl in a while and decided to brave the crowd on Memorial Day for their dim sum. Service was good for such a busy day and they handled it pretty well. The food was still steamy hot and tasted fresh. The Cheung Fun was overcooked a bit. It was quite busy so a lot of the dishes disappeared quickly-- we would have to wait for the next round (or even the round after that). Price is a bit higher than other places but the quality is good. Gratuity was included for a party of 6. Plenty of parking. The restaurant is bigger than it looks and has rustic decor.

Google
Attention: They add a mandatory 20% tip to your 1st receipt. If you pay with credit card the 2nd receipt has the extra checkboxes to tip on top of your 1st receipts amount. I hate that. Dim sum is a little above average.

Google
Even they are busy the service is good, they are on top of it. Food is keeps coming/pretty often and delicious too. So not really wait for a long time from one cart to the next cart. Very reasonable price for a Dim Sum place. We will be back again when we are in town. If you guys like Dim Sum, East Pearl is a good option to get some good Dim Sum 👍🏻

Yelp
有病啊不打单就把错的单 拿给客人 我点的Uber eat 四五十块钱的单都拿错 不带脑子 不会做生意就别做 Completely wrong order in Uber eats use your brain when you do business this is ridiculous

Yelp
While there are many , and I mean many newer dim-sum places. This is the place to go. The place where I still think the food overcomes any other short coming. If you're looking for an OG dim-sum place, up here in Duluth, where your priority is the dim-sum and price point, then look no further. Focus on the key items from the carts, and you will not go wrong. I would recommend the hargow, hamsuikok, braised chicken feet, and finally..... you have to ask for this, and I may regret letting you know this off the menu item... ask for braised beef tendons. There I said it... the only dimsum place with beef tendons. Very much coveted and prized. It'll take some time for the kitchen to make it. We usually get 2. One for the table, and one to-go. Also... pro-tip. Bring you own tea, if you have it. Good tea is essential to the experience, but unfortunately, ever restaurant does not offer a curated selection. They'll happily pour you brown water. Make 2024 a year to bring Tea back to DimSum

Yelp
Overall experience is amazing! Me and my family visit every Sunday for dim sum as that's part of our tradition back in Hong Kong. I can't say that their food tastes just like my hometown but there's a couple food items me and my family liked a lot! Best to visit early around 10 so you won't need to wait hours for a table. Overall it feels like hometown and I like it so far!

Yelp
I was craving congee and I want to try their version. It is tasty includes crunchies amd green onions unlike the other places that is just plain bland. This is my favorite so far here. We had hot tea and finished the egg drop soup. They also serve shumai. Serving is family style so its really good for the price. Everything you see here is $52 includes spda fountain drink. Big space and some tables have the lazy susan feels authentic and servers are pleasant. Would likely to come back.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot for a quick, no-frills dim sum with my family. You get exactly what you expect--simple, reliable, and consistently good food. I've been coming here for years, and they never miss. While the selection isn't anything out of the ordinary, they offer all the classic dim sum staples you'd expect. What sets them apart is the ability to order additional dishes, and my personal favorite is the Chicken and Salt Fish Fried Rice--they always nail it!
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
This was very interesting. It's not a place where they give menus and wait for you to choose items. Service is fast because they come around with the trays with small portions of different items and ask what you want. You won't know how much anything costs they just mark it down on your ticket. The oolong tea was amazing!

Yelp
We had a very pleasant and interesting dining experience here! First: the decor was wonderful. I love Asian art and the lobby was quite unique, as you can see from the photos. The amazing Buddha statuettes, the bamboo planters, the dining room, and the entry all represented delightful Asian influence. Second: the service was spot on! A few of the hostesses clearly did not speak English, however, there are ladies there that do and all were very helpful and friendly. I was especially impressed when they set our table with forks without having to ask. Brava! Third: everything we ordered was more than delicious. Needless to say, I am looking forward to my next visit
google avatar

Marina C.

Yelp
The food here was excellent. Just make sure you look at pictures and know what to order before going. It gets a little hetic when you first sit down. The workers barely speak english and cannot explain in detail what the food is on the carts. I highly recommend this place for dim sum!
google avatar

Millie C.

Yelp
Been here too many times! All the dimsum on the carts are good, but the rice noodles you have to order are the best (third pic). There are different types/toppings you can order for them. They come out soft and silky every single time. All the dimsum here are flavorful and good size. The curry fish ball dish is my favorite and they only serve it on weekends. Not pictured but they also have an amazing tofu dessert that is soft and silky ! Not overly sweet, it usually sells out around 12 on weekends. Amazing breakfast spot that always hits the spot! Definitely get there early on weekends though as the wait can be about an hour long, but totally worth it.

Yelp
Great authentic Chinese food, this is my fourth time coming here. I absolutely love the food and nice atmosphere!
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
We love to have dim sum with family. This restaurant has a large dining area with a few large tables for big groups. The dim sum on the carts was very good but some of the better options need to be ordered from a menu. Lots of parking here. Service was good but helps to speak Chinese.

Yelp
Yes for food and nope for waiting So good but waiting is unbearable, I talk about longggggg wait, come at 9:30 or 10 if not phewwww good luck. 5 star for food, 1 star for waiting.
google avatar

Dede N.

Yelp
when I saw the menu they have such a big variety. Their food is freshly cooked, very tasty and well presented. The owners/employees were really friendly, attentive and service overall was excellent, freshly preparing food as cooked like better than most of the others. I would highly recommend anyone .

Anya M.

Yelp
I'm not usually a person to criticize, but never seen anything like this. Atmosphere was okay at best, staff was not communicating at all and often blocked each other. One waitress gave us the wrong tea. Food was... bad, both me and my dad found SHRIMP SKINS in the steamed foods (they were supposed to have skins removed before steaming). Some were overly salted and some was not salted at all, and people were also unorganized. Also, the TV did not work at all. but still.

Yelp
We've pretty much tried all the dim sum places in Atlanta/Duluth and this has to be one of our top picks. The service is pretty good even on their busy days, but will sometimes need reminding of what you asked for. The place itself is also pretty big, but I find it awkward when they place people with another group in the same table or on stage. Overall great place for good dim sum!
google avatar

Null V.

Yelp
The price is pretty OK. 25$ including taxes. The tips are actually compulsory. We have a group of five people and we waited for about 30 minutes on a Sunday morning.
google avatar

Cecilia T.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to get dim sum. The only reason I don't frequent it more is how far away I live from there. It is almost always packed especially on weekend mornings, but worth the wait. Carts come by pretty regularly. I haven't found a thing I didn't like. They even got me to like chicken feet, which I usually avoid. Bomb dot com.
google avatar

Grace K.

Yelp
We are here for dinner, the food was good but service took awhile. Definitely try the string beans!
google avatar

Kimberly L.

Yelp
Lets update my review! It's still good as ever. My sisters visited ATL and dim sum was in the menu. We came right as opening and I know it's iffy because the food might not be ready, etc. But nope. Right when I went to go stand by the door, I was bum rushed by other customers and everyone ran inside - essentially cutting in front of me. I know so rude. Anyways. The food was ready and carts got rolling as soon as we were seated. Luckily, the servers this time knew English and we didn't have the usually struggle. I know I should really learn to speak one of the Chinese languages..... Lol. That's for debate in another time Overall, delicious and reminded me of dim sum we get in Hawaii.
google avatar

Yvonne A.

Yelp
I've only ate in but this time we got togo on doordash. Dim Sum was consistent (chicken feet and fried shrimp on sugarcane). Porridge has good flavor but more water than rice. Kongpao chicken wasn't spicy as I hoped, but the chicken was good. Beef & broccoli was spicy and was delicious.
google avatar

Vatzana P.

Yelp
Place gets packed but luckily we didn't wait too long for a table. Service is attentive and quick! Food comes out quick and was all fresh and hot!! Will be coming back!
google avatar

Kristy T.

Yelp
It was our first time here. The service is good. We got a lot of dimsum and breakfast items. But there are not a lot unless you order from menu. And to see menu, you either have to ask or to look online. It was difficult to tell waiter/waitress what we want. The dimsum was hot and delicious but there are a lot of dishes containing shrimp. So if you allergic to seafood, you can order pork bun, tripe, chicken feet, and something else from menu. Our least favorite was the pork bun- the filling was too sweet for our taste. Our most favorite is transparent shrimp dimsum and both shumai. I didn't see any rice porridge so that was a disappointment.
google avatar

Kelly E.

Yelp
We got a bunch of dumplings, corn soup, and a couple stir-fry dishes for takeout. It was ready in less than 20 min and it smelled so good! Our family gobbled them up and I know the family finished it up for lunch today.
google avatar

Cindy W.

Yelp
I've ordered food delivery from this establishment and the food is good. I grew up in New York City and there was a Chinese Restaurant on Mott Street my parents use to take me to. The taste of the food here reminded me of that place in New York so delicious and authentic tasting to me. A must try if you haven't already.
google avatar

Keilah F.

Yelp
So far everything I've had here is good. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Best hidden gem found during the pandemic
google avatar

Froilana L.

Yelp
There food was good and service was good too the only complaint I have for this place was having to be forced to leave a tip other than that good place.
google avatar

Meina M.

Yelp
One of the better dim sum places. They give you a number when you walk in. On a Saturday we definitely didn't have to wait too long about 30-35mins. Has all of your dim sum needs! And the chili sauce was on point! Definitely don't order anything off the menu during dim sum hours the variety of options for menu isn't much. I got 6 pc wings for $10. It was very very hot inside and space isn't huge. So be prepared to be squeezed in literally!
google avatar

Yisrael C.

Yelp
This place was bottom tier okay. . For starters we got spring rolls and 2 different types of dumplings(?). They weren't very good. I don't know what else to add other than, I don't recommend getting these. 2/10. . We also ordered Peking sauce pork chops and, I forget the name, but some type of beef and snap pea stir fry. The pork chops were the best thing we ordered, but that's not saying much. It was sweet and salty, but the taste got pretty old. Pork chops 4/10. The beef and snap peas tasted like every other beef stir fry. It wasn't anything special, and the ratio of vegetables to beef was 8:1, as you can see from the photo below, there was probably 5-6 pieces of beef compared to the 20+ pieces of vegetables. 2/10. . The atmosphere was okay, everything looks pretty outdated but it didn't really matter to me. The food was below okay.

Hey Hey H.

Yelp
The dim sum here is delicious and authentic. After living in China for 6 years, this is the place I go to when I crave dim sum.
google avatar

Craig T.

Yelp
I haven't had Dim Sum since 2019 and wanted to go somewhere inside the Duluth area. This restaurant is located right next to Home Depot off Pleasant Hill Rd. I came on a holiday Monday (Memorial Day) and it had a decent crowd to it. Parking was plentiful outside. Employees were wearing masks and it appeared social distancing was enforced here as people were seated far away from each other. The first cart had almost everything I wanted. Excuse me as I do not know the names of every Dim Sum dish in English. Lol Everything was super tasty and service was good. The highlights were: Puffy Taro shaped balls wirh pork inside, sticky rice with pork inside, pork shu-mai, fried shrimp balls, and etc. I definitely will come back again!!
google avatar

Jackie S.

Yelp
I usually come on Sundays and they are always so busy. I love their dim sum. They do not disappoint with their varieties. The only thing is that they may run out of food and there may be a little wait. I suggest come early and not rush so you can get the full experience of dim sum. They have made to order items such as rolled rice paper cake, Chinese broccoli. They have a little menu and comes around each table to ask you if you want to order them. My favorites are still shrimp ha cao, shrimp siu mai, all the dumplings, chicken feet, bbq pork buns, tripes, egg tarts, and sesame balls. I always leave with a full stomach.
google avatar

Ginny D.

Yelp
I ordered dim sum and got shumai, sticky rice, and egg tarts. All of the cart ladies were attentive and asked me each time they went by if I wanted anything. My waitress also asked if I wanted the kitchen to make any rice noodles, but eating dim sum alone, I didn't have a big enough appetite to eat those, too. The sticky rice was extremely sticky, but I didn't care for it, as it was fishy tasting. I'm used to bits of lap cheong or mushrooms, but not fish and mystery meat bits. I do think that their shumai is better than Royal China's shumai, though. Theirs was moist and delicious, as were their egg tarts. The jasmine tea was also quite tasty. However, the decor is rather lacking, and you can tell it used to be some other type of restaurant. Also, it smelled quite fishy. You can see the fish tanks that are part of the kitchen, and they didn't look very clean. While I really liked the shumai, I don't think I'll be back soon.
google avatar

Pearl L.

Yelp
This is my second time trying this place and I will say the second time was much better than the first. I've only tried their dim sum and it's pretty good. Atmosphere It started to get busy around 11:30/12. I honestly think that's key because that meant food was fresh and hot when being served via a push cart. The restaurant is fairly large. It's basically in the shape of an L and it was super busy on the opposite side of where we're sitting. I think it's because those are larger tables and bigger groups were seated that way. It wasn't too crowded which made things more comfortable to eat and talk. Food We chose some of the staple dim sum foods. Beef Tripe, Chicken Feet, Shrimp Shumai, Hai Gao, Portuguese egg custards tarts, fried shrimp balls and not pictured is the steamed shrimp rolls. Everything this time was pretty good and fresh. My favorites were the shrimp shumai and chicken feet. If you haven't tried them, you're missing out! It's sweet, spicy and savory. Yummm! Service One of my favorite things about going for dim sum is when they push carts around so you can see what's available. The waitresses were nice and asked if we wanted everything. Lol but honestly when you see it, you kind of do want everything. Everyone was nice and when you do dim sum, you don't get serviced like if you were ordering a la carte from a menu. There's a balance between someone servicing your table and the waitresses that are pushing the carts with food. It's the full experience that go into the service part!

Antonio R.

Yelp
Great food, great staff. I would definitely recommend this place. The duck was amazing and the Chow mein was also really good

Mary Y.

Yelp
If we are in the mood for Dim Sum, East Pearl is the place we go. Plenty of food selections. In addition, you can order from the regular menu for additional food. Waiting staffs are hit and miss. Sometimes they are very attentive but sometimes you just can't find anyone. It's an older restaurant that can probably use some updates. We also noticed the price has gone up quite a bit recently years. 5 people can easy go over $150 without adding the tips.

Yến C.

Yelp
The food was okay but I was surprised by the way they chased me to force me to give Tip
google avatar

Judgemental B.

Yelp
Most of them are authentic and flawless, Reasonable price and fast/good services. Must go for dim sum
google avatar

Misty S.

Yelp
Food:5/5 Service 5/5 Ambience: 5/5 We as a party of 5 went here on a busy to Sunday. The place was jam packed, but if you go to the front, they give you a number card. And if you are called, you get to have your table. We got to sit down at a table with a fancy rotating thing on top in 5 minutes or so. We got drinks, jasmine tea and water right away, and service was pretty attentive. Then we got all kind of dim sum on carts...and I noticed they over many more kind than weekdays. All of them was excellent...fresh, hot, and perfectly seasoned. I had no complaints. Only thing was they do have homemade tofu here, but it was not almond tofu like a dessert, it was tofu with ginger/sugar to all good. I may have to com back with friends again!
google avatar

Bevin Z.

Yelp
Came here for brunch, we are a group of 6, all original Chinese so we know what's good or bad regarding dim sum taste. This place is definitely disappointing and not worthy coming. Food: the food here is extremely salty, literally every signal dish. Service: everyone works there will let you feel you owe them money.. very rude and if you ask questions, they will complain in your face. When we checkout. The 18% tip was automatically added without notifying you. And there was still options for more tip. be aware!!! Very bad experience, try other places.

Yvette E.

Yelp
Delicious food great variety. Authentic Chinese cuisine. Service was superb. Friendly and courteous. A few things that are needed. First, don't assume customers understand Dim Sum are "appetizers. Secondly, the covers on the chairs need cleaning, and lastly, the outside needs to be swept of trash, leaves, cigarettes butts, etc. Otherwise, this place would have received 5 stars. Oh, yes! Another visit is right around the corner. Most definitely.
google avatar

Amol B.

Yelp
Very local authentic Cantonese cuisine! Bit crowded during weekends but great food. The restaurant is family and kid's friendly. The variety of food is great too.

Yelp
Only heard about East Pearl in Duluth a few weeks ago. We have been dim sum fans for decades, and east pearl is the best in a long time. (Need to go to NYC Chinatown next time we are there. But Duluth beats buford hiway and San Francisco. Really) They open for seating at 1030 on weekends. The will come around with picture cards for the long cooking items (20 minutes). Ie bbq spare ribs; and Cheung Fun (Steamed Rice Noodle Rolls). They had shrimp, pork, and plain. Perfectly fresh so best . (Previously, Daughter always ate the rice noodles and gave us shrimp filling. The pork filling was delicious The carts started coming around about 10 minutes later. We ordered too much because we tried lots of new items, including Tofu in sweet sauce, and sweet rice noodles (like cake slices). We had all the standards too : shrimp dumplings, pork sui mai, and baked BBQ pork buns, and sweet buns. The two fried shrimp dishes were even very good. Good taste and not over cooked :) Three things we missed were shrimp sui mai, scallion cake and soup dumplings (siu luhng bao). I don't know if they have the soup dumplings, that's harder to find Bottom line: food was great. Only thing I didn't like was the taro cake- but thats just me. Service. Excellent. There was a young man picking up empty dishes quickly and continuously . All the waitresses were all working together. The cart ladies answered all our questions patiently. Sometimes with menu picture cards, and if didn't understand us, asked others and came back with answer with *seconds*. Cleanliness: Excellent and disinfected tables after each group. Plenty of parking, and easy location next to home depot

Yelp
I've been looking for YEARS on a dim sum spot in ATL -- I know there are some, but I did not know there was one in Duluth! I visited twice most recently. One on a Sunday lunch & the other on a Friday lunch. It seems like the selection is much more expansive on a weekend lunch, as our choices were pretty limited on Friday -- it was also pretty dead so I could see why. You are seated and they ask you if you want dim sums. You say yes, and they start coming out with carts of selections of dim sums to choose from. Most of the servers cannot speak English. Do not expect great service as it's mediocre at best. You get to choose what you want and they write down on your ticket what you ordered and they just accumulate your total at the end! The most recent time I went, some of the things I tried were the shrimp shumai, pork shumai, various dumplings, fried shrimp on a sugar cane stick, barbeque pork buns, and some more I cannot remember. All the dimsums here are decent. They're not the quality of the ones you can find in NYC Chinatown or LA, but it still is pretty decent for the money you pay and the best part is, you don't have to wait. They come to you right away with the carts. That also doesn't mean you don't know how fresh these dim sums are. But considering that they only serve lunch, it's probably not TOO old. I would give East Pearl more of a 3.5, but just because it's unique with little to no competition in the area, I will give it a 4.

Donny L.

Yelp
Service was magnificent. Waitress were attentive and courteous to refill water right away. They also brought out additional food for service. Very yummy. Quality of food was very delicious. They have various list of items to choose. The restaurant is very well kept and clean. The chili oil smacks!

Bill S.

Yelp
Went here for late birthday lunch as I am only one in family likes dim sum. Had great meal of Shrimp egg rolls, Hot n sour soup,Shrimp hawgau , Pork shumai & Sticky rice. Will be back. Reasonable prices too $24
google avatar

Dominic T.

Yelp
Went there yesterday with my family. Tbe food was okay but the service was extremely disappointing. The waiter that took care of our table wasn't attentive at all. We ordered tea right before eating and waited 30 minutes for it yet to not have it but she proceeded to serve a table that came in after us. When we voiced our concern to the manager, they got aggravated with us. Telling us it's busy today, which we would understand but that doesn't explain why we're ignored and neglected for a table that came in after. Extremely disappointed.

Yelp
Holy Moley, this place is good, I'll tell you straight off the bat unless you come early expect a long line but it will be well worth it. If you aren't familiar with Dim Sum come hungry. Lots of smaller dishes and there are so many good things it will be hard not to stuff yourself. You will find yourself saying "yes give me some of that, and some of that and yes please come back with that cart." That pork dumplings, short ribs, sesame balls and the rice noodle rolls. I left this place more than full and I don't think I had a bite of anything else until the next day. I want to say that I saw a sign that said this was the #1 voted Dim Sum place in Gwinnett, I didn't get to vote on that but if they asked me now, they would get "hell yeah" they are!

Yelp
3 or any multiple of 3 is the perfect # for a dimsum party -- all the dishes have 3 pieces and then you can avoid the polite fighting over the last piece, lol. My favorites here - the steamed chives & shrimp dumplings and steamed shrimp dumplings ("shrimp Har Gow") which have the translucent wrapper ... so yummy I could eat a whole case, haha! The fried spring roll was also surprising good - just fried & perfectly crispy ... I'm so used to getting over-fried spring rolls, haha. After the "steamed" dimsum cart and the "fried" dimsum cart, they showed a picture menu of other things we could special order -- we got the shrimp wrapped in the rice noodle sheet w/ soy sauce ("Cheong Fun with Shrimp) .... usually a favorite for me but theirs was just ok. Also ordered Snow Pea Leaves to get our veggie fix -- yummy! I recommend coming early if possible to avoid waiting for a table -- we came at 10 on a Saturday morning. I'd say the crowd starts coming around 11. Dimsum pricing has always been a mystery to me b/c there's no menu -- based on the final bill, I'm estimating about $5/plate except for entrees like snow pea leaves. Dimsum is 50% off on Mon-Fri 11-2:30pm. FYI - they're located next to Home Depot.

Yelp
We've been to this place a couple of times and the overall experience is not that bad until today. I mean the staff are friendly and they did everything they can do, just the manager's attitude is awful. First, we found bugs in Chrysanthemum flower tea and we let the manager know, instead of an apology or some sort of, we get a cold response that if you don't want to eat, you can go, it seems that he doesn't care at all what happened. Wow, I will never go back not just because there maybe BUGs in your tea, also you will get treated badly, we come out spend money to enjoy food not come back with a gross memory! Plus, the food is not that good, just so so, so you might as well spend the money somewhere else who treat you like a customer!
