Seafood restaurant & fishmonger with hyperlocal menu

"At the Wharf’s most ambitious dining endeavor to date, the design is just as important as the food, with a splashy, next-level nautical aesthetic from London’s Artfarm that greets diners with a shoal of floating fish woven from branches and a dramatic plaid tartan stretching up the ceiling. Sustainability threads through the space via a shellacked bartop made of shattered wine bottles, recycled-plastic tabletops, and washed-up beach wood turned into stoic statues wrapped in fishing nets. A vintage porthole peeks into a prep station where chefs cure, dry, and age whole fish coming in from the Chesapeake Bay, while buttery bivalves from Spike Meatyard’s Double ‘T’ Oyster Ranch in Southern Maryland bolster the offerings—Meatyard also assembled much of the look. A shell-framed Boat Room for private dining fittingly overlooks real boats bobbing just outside." - Tierney Plumb

"Lunch at this beautiful spot on the Wharf is a treat, and the fried catfish sandwich nails the balance of exceptionally crispy fish, tangy tartar sauce, and sour pickles. It came with crisp, addictive shoestring fries, and splitting the sandwich let us explore more of the menu, like a super-seasonal porcini mushroom and roasted chestnut soup that the staff graciously divided into separate bowls. I was especially blown away by the venison carpaccio — incredibly thin slices that tasted like earthy prosciutto, topped with sharp Parmesan and apples — a creative take I’ll come back for (it’s on the dinner menu, too). The venison comes from Millbrook Farms in Pennsylvania, where the deer are raised wild on a huge plot of land and the owners literally go hunt for them, an insane commitment to delicious, free-range venison." - Tierney Plumb

"The first stateside version of Scotland’s famous seafood showpiece just opened on the Wharf in late April and rolled out lunch soon after. The midday menu features many of the seafood-focused dishes found on the dinner menu, including a fried catfish sandwich and tuna carpaccio, along with surprisingly affordable prix fixe options. A two-course prix fixe ($18) and three-course prix fixe ($25) are available, with guest deciding between a selection of seasonal starters, mains (seafood pasta, fried catfish with fries, and more), or a dessert of ice cream or sorbet." - Emily Venezky

"Scotland’s decorated seafood stop Fish Shop traveled across the pond to plant roots at the Wharf in late April. The Bib Gourmand-designated restaurant and fishmonger sends out a hyperlocal menu full of trout-topped crumpets, roasted rockfish, and peak vegetables sourced from the Dupont farmers market. Its scenic patio overlooks bobbing boats right out front." - Tierney Plumb
"Fish Shop in the Wharf is the U.S. debut of a Scottish seafood favorite that apparently King Charles is really into. The posh space features private dining rooms, and the menu is mostly sourced from regional producers. Expect a raw bar, roasted rockfish, grilled striped bass with cauliflower gnocchi and English peas, and more." - omnia saed
