"The bar at Frankies is removed from the main dining room, so your solo meal here feels a little more intentional, even if it isn’t the most cozy. Order a dish of their soft ricotta gnocchi, which has enough warmth to wrap you up in layers of metaphorical blankets no matter where you’re sitting. The marinara on top is fresh and undoctored, and the rioja by the glass is perfect with it. And when you can rip yourself out of your transcendental state, raise your glass to the cooks prepping things behind a counter on the opposite wall." - Ann Walczak
"Frankies motto could very well be, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” That’s because the menu of Italian dishes is a pretty close replica of the original outpost in Brooklyn. Luckily, that works out well for Frankies’ Nashville location because the food is great and executed really well. There are colorful plates of roasted beets and avocado, rich cavatelli with spicy sausage and sage browned butter, and a surprisingly cold (yet tender) ribeye with sea salt. Dessert also has a few tricks up its sleeves, with a deceptively simple ricotta cheesecake and a plate of marinated prunes in a red wine sauce with a dollop of mascarpone cheese. The massive space itself feels sparse and airy but in a serene, rustic way that lends itself to easy conversation." - jackie gutierrez jones 2
"Brooklyn’s beloved neighborhood mainstay has hit its groove in East Nashville, offering its signature house-made charcuterie, olive oil-soaked antipasti, and luscious pasta dishes in a roomy, but cozy, dining room. Large parties are easily accommodated, with plenty of menu items that are easily shared — mozzarella tasting, anyone? — and several options for private dining as well." - Ellen Fort
"“I'm biased as f*ck—I've loved the Franks for a long, long time. Them opening up in Nashville is a dream come true. To be able to eat their food in Nashville is truly a sense of home away from home. I probably have eaten at Frankies [in Brooklyn] more than any restaurant in New York, you know? So to be able to eat their food in a different town and feel close to people that I care about is an amazing thing. Also being able to eat mascarpone and their prunes anywhere in the world…it's my favorite dessert. Their salads are my favorite. They’ve got escarole and walnuts with honey dijon dressing. Just having a good salad and a warm bowl of gnocchi and then f*cking whatever else they got is fire, you know? Even their super thin little sandwiches with the crunchy focaccia, it’s unreal. That tuna sandwich is one of my favorite sandwiches. I think their eggplant marinara is just on its own level, and absolutely stunning.”" - brennan carley
"Nashville is starting to collect Italian restaurants like Meryl Streep collects Oscar nominations. One of them is Frankies, an East Nashville copy and paste from NYC, where you can dip some seriously good bread into some seriously good olive oil. For a hearty, solo lunch, pair the fennel sausage and broccoli rabe sandwich on thin and crispy pizza bianca with a glass of Nebbiolo from their impressive, glass-encased wine cellar. Or, come for dinner and get the most pillowy gnocchi we’ve ever had or any of the seasonal pastas—we've had linguine topped with truffles and a slightly spicy corn ravioli. It’s the perfect restaurant to bring that person with whom you’ve traded “we should get dinner sometime!” emails for the past year and a half." - Ann Walczak
