Super empty on a weekday/friday night, went trick or treating with my niece and nephew and their kiddie friends and we were looking for a place nearby for food, decided to drop by since they were still open (closes at 9:20pm), there was only one other table with customers finishing their meal when we walked in. We got some soup and japchae and seafood pancakes to share, the beef bone soup was without salt so you'd have to add your own, there's a bowl of scallion too. Japchae was good and flavorful. Tofu soup was spicy but decent in flavor. Probably not my first choice in the area but ok for old ppl who can't have too much salt and needs to eat healthy. Lots of space and no crowd.

Foods is ok nothing special, not recommend to young adults recommend to older adults...service the lady very friendly the busboy not at all,,will i come again maybe maybe not ！

Definitely a place to try the 🍲beef bone soup! Seems like their best best iconic dish. It was really really high quality, creamy and thick with lots of ingredients inside. The ❤️‍🔥pork with veggie was a big plate to share. Pork belly is chewy and neck meat melts in your mouth. Their 🧡kimchi was really delicious as well, especially the radish one. They have their master recipe. Would like to visit and try other things next time. The only thing I have comments is the services. When I asked for recommendations, the server had no patience and responded “everything!” then left…

This Korean restaurant offers a quite unique dining experience. The food is basic yet flavorful, with highlights being the savory, sweet, and lightly fermented kimchi and the tangy, savory jalapenos. The ox bone tendon soup is simple and requires a touch of self-seasoning, and the seafood pancake is a well-balanced dish that goes excellently with their sweet salty garlic soy sauce. However, the ambiance leaves much to be desired, with a cafeteria-like atmosphere and minimal service. Music is noticeably absent, leaving diners in silence. Nevertheless, the food offerings somewhat make up for the lack of atmosphere. The pricing is on the higher end, so be prepared for that. Overall, it's a decent spot if you're looking for authentic Korean cuisine, but don't expect a vibrant dining atmosphere.

Came for a late lunch and was able to get a seat quickly. Pretty tasty and generous portions. Service was quick once you make your order. Love all the vegetables that came with the meat dishes.

The food is fairly consistent at Gahwa. It tastes good and is decently priced. They are becoming more stingy with the banchan, especially the kimchi, which is why I am giving them three stars.

My family and I came here because (1) they were the only place open at ten in the morning, and (2) my mom crowed about their bibimbap. The restaurant, at first glance, doesn't seem like much. It's a small space with few servers, and the de rigeur banchan, or small plates, that are a part of every Korean meal are few. Other restaurants might provide a bevy of offerings, but Gahwa sticks to the bare basics with the ever-present kimchi and kkakdugi (spicily fermented radish). That said, I couldn't stop my chopsticks from returning to these small plates. Both are done extremely well here, and we had barely enough time to savor them before our plates came out because the food arrived that quickly. I went with the dolsot bibimbap, the hot stone pot version of this dish, which was every bit as good as my mom claimed. There was a surprisingly varied mix of root vegetables and mushrooms and the server here was kindly about making mine vegetarian by removing the meat. All too often, the vegetables for this spicy mixed rice dish are cut into all kinds of lengths and sizes, including some that are too long for a spoon and leave vegetal tendrils dangling as you try to grab a mouthful. But here, everything is thoughtfully chopped into tiny dices, making it that much easier to pack a bite. It seems like a small thing, but I thought it a delightful touch. The only two drawbacks were that the pot wasn't terribly hot, which meant the rice never crisped on the bottom as much as I would have liked. The other very small thing was that I missed having an egg to throw in (which many other restaurants provide). But those small quibbles aside, we appreciated the quick service and the fact that they were one of few Korean restaurants in the area open to hungry early birds.

I prefer Gahwa more than any Korean restaurants in Korean town. My hidden gem spot. The complimentary radish kimchi is just so good. Plz visit and try many dishes.

I've been a loyal patron for years, and it's always my first stop after returning from a trip to Europe, when I'm desperately craving the deep, soulful flavors of Asian cuisine. While I'm a bit disheartened that their prices have crept up over time, I can't deny they've earned their monopoly on seolleongtang. The broth here is a masterpiece--rich, velvety, and brimming with flavor. It's not just delicious; it's nourishing, too, with its easy-to-digest quality and collagen-packed goodness that always leaves me feeling revitalized. My favorite ritual? Scooping up a spoonful of rice, dipping it into the broth, and topping it off with a slice of tangy, spicy kimchi--each bite is pure perfection. Their bossam is another standout, ideal for sharing and perfect for family-style dining. The tender, succulent pork paired with crisp accompaniments is a feast in itself. What I love most about Gahwa is its cozy, homey vibe--it feels like a warm embrace, a little haven where comfort food and heartwarming ambiance come together seamlessly. Absolute perfection.

Very tasty bossam and seollongtang! It was my first in the city and it was great because I eat it a lot back home. The price point is fair.

This is honestly worth the trek if you're traveling from downtown Flushing. Prices are a little pricier than I expected but it's all so good and hearty. The must is obviously the ga hwa sui long tong but you can't go wrong with any. The people there were also so nice, gave recommendations and everything, with the food coming out quick. There's very few food out there I would go to on a cold winter night, but this is work the walk (or bus ride) too. Also there is an HMart right there to browse afterwards

I enjoyed this noodle spot very much. It was exactly what I needed on a cold night. Better still was that the restaurant was filled with Korean folks of all ages and that's always a great sign of authentic cuisine. No frills, not super trendy in decor, just simple wooden tables and white walls. Per all other Yelp reviews, it's a classic bone broth based noodle shop. They serve an excellent homemade kimchi as well. I must say, since I'm not one to always get to enjoy the heat, many kimchi's are usually too spicy for me to eat a lot. This one was mild but very enjoyable. In fact, I asked for seconds. (I've never done that!) First steps inside the restaurant from the parking lot entrance, you'd be greeted immediately by the servers and more importantly, your nose gets a whiff of that marvelous umami bone broth boiling in the ginormous pot. Smelled so good! Their bimbap and seafood pancake was really good too. Given my shrimp allergy though, I had to be extra careful when eating the pancakes. I picked out the shrimp without issue. The pancake was more dough-like than I normally prefer. But flavor wise, it was good. Table service was great and salt is provided for you to flavor your bone broth further, as it comes under seasoned on purpose. Menu says "salt to taste" literally, everywhere. So I tried the broth without salt and then I slowly added it in each bite to ensure I didn't over or under. Solid spot. Can't wait to return.

AN ABSOLUTE HIDDEN GEM!! Gahwa is definitely a sparkling hidden gem here in Flushing, offering both authentic, top quality food with great service! I came here in a group of four and we shared 2 sul long tangs, a Japchae, and pa jun. The food portion sizes are really good, the pancake was huge, buttery, stuffed with seafood and crispy on the exterior. The japchae was packed with flavor, noodles were perfectly cooked and glistening. The soup was creamy, comforting and had so much depth. And definitely the best kimchi I've had in a while. The rice with soup combo has me turning at night. The interior of the restaurant felt really comforting and cozy, warm and inviting. But to tell you the truth the food was so good, I didn't pay any attention to anything else around me. While I've read mixed reviews about the service, my personal experience was pleasant. The staff I felt was extremely attentive to our needs, filled our teas, kimchi and were overall very welcoming! This was actually my first time trying sul long tang and it was a great experience. The broth especially was so creamy yet savory, the aftertaste was so comforting and while we only ordered 3 dishes here, it feels like you can't go wrong ordering any dish here. I have nothing but high praises for this restaurant and I'm excited to be back! TLDR; Amazing food, cozy interior, good service, decently priced, good portion sizes

Wow what a great spot. It's a hit of a walk from the subway but well worth it. It's right next to the H Mart so make sure to grab some treats before hand. We got there early at 545 on a saturday night and we were glad that we did. It fills up fast with locals. We are so glad we came with someone who knows their Korean food (thanks Calvin!) It's a pretty big place. One story with lots of tables and an efficient staff. But the real delight is the food. The Modum Bossom was really a treat. I've never had the pork belly boiled with the pickled cabbage and other things is a real marvel. It's supposed to be homemade Korean and it sure is not the normal. Korean-American fare that's for sure and that's a good thing. But the Moksai Bossom (pork neck) is even more tender and delicious. So make sure to give that a try as well. The kimchi is also great and the bindaetoek (pancake with mung, pork and vegetables) was a marvel crisp and light. The really amazing final finish was the seolleongtang. This is a bone soup they cook for literally days in huge cauldrons. It's delicious. You need to add some salt and onions and it is delicious with noodles and such great flavor. You really have to try it. So definitely worth the trip out to flushing. Enjoy!

Casual Korean spot I found on tiktok for their bone soup. It was pretty empty when we arrived, we were seated immediately and service was quick. We ordered two bone soups (A1, A2) and another soup (A9) as well as seafood pancake. The soups came unseasoned and you have to season yourself with salt and pepper. They also provide green onions and cabbage to put into your soup. I liked how light the soup was but still it was very white and creamy from the ox bone. A9 (I forgot the name) was very flavorful and delicious if you're feeling something less light. The seafood pancake was pretty standard to mediocre, nothing special. I wish it was more crispy. The part we didn't like much was the lack of side dishes. There was also one dish of kimchi which was delicious but we would've liked more variety. But hey, it's more of a no frills place. I heard the bibimbap is pretty good so that's worth a try.

This is the place you go to for food and an atmosphere that makes you feel like you're at home. The service was quick, and the staff was very warm and friendly. I was craving clean food, and my boyfriend brought me here for the ox bone soup. I love how the ox bone soup came with scallions on the side, so you can add as much as you want. (I dumped all the scallions in.) You can add as much salt and pepper as you desire as well. My boyfriend also asked for red pepper paste, since I wanted a little bit of spice, which the staff very kindly brought us. Of course, the flavor was absolutely amazing. The soup came with a good portion of meat. I would say I wish the soup came with more rice noodles as well, but with the bowl of rice of the side, do I really wish for more carbs? Eaten with the bossam, it makes you feel like you've had a well-balanced, healthy meal. The meat was perfect, and the kimchi and everything else paired with it created the perfect mix of flavors. It was my first time trying ox bone soup and bossam, and I can picture myself craving these dishes after a night out drinking or after I ever have too much fast food. The food was so good, my mind went blank with contentment. P.S. You also get complimentary warm tea and side dishes.

Service was quick and most attentive. Food is always fresh and delicious you will always get quality food made with quality ingredients. Took my Taiwanese gf here to show off my Korean and she loved it. (The food I mean) Also the staff speaks Chinese here as well which impressed me and my gf. This is an authentic Korean restaurant next to HMart in Flushing. My friend and I were the only non-Koreans in the restaurant over a span of an hour and half. Many of the customers got hot soup, even though we're in the middle of a heat advisory. Perhaps something about the hot soup is good for hot weather?? idk The staff were focused on food preparation and serving, so trying to get the attention of a server to order a side of rice, and then later to get the bill, was a slow process. Overall, a good place with delicious food and a cute atmosphere.

The food is good quality and comes out quickly. The workers are nice. It feels like you're walking into a traditional Korean home when you're there. The LA kalbi is the most flavorful item but the meat combos are also great choices. Parking in the rear.

As someone obsessed with seollongtang, I was excited to try Gahwa after reading online recommendations. The restaurant feels very mom-and-pop-ish and as if it has been in business for a long time/is family run. The service is quick and no-nonsense. They provided us with ssamjang, marinated jalapenos, napa kimchi, raw napa, and radish kimchi before the meal. I ordered the dogani-tang (Ox knee), and I seasoned it myself with the pepper and salt provided (which is pretty standard). With this dish, I felt like compared to other places I have been to they gave an average amount of meat. They gave less noodles than I was used to, which I personally don't mind. The soup is served with a bowl of rice. I think for this area, the seollongtang was great. Definitely one of the best that I've had in NY so far; However, I would say that I've had better before. I will definitely be coming back to try dishes like bibimbap in the future.

We ordered the house Bimbim bap. It was nicely presented with a variety of ingredients. Mixed with the gochujang it was rather tasty though could have been a bit spicier for my taste. My wife order a soup- not sure its name but it was based on a white broth and she surely enjoyed it. We also ordered some beef bbq. It was served hot and thinly sliced with the bone resting on grilled onions in an iron dish to keep it warm. It was a bit fatty but that's the point. The kimchi side was also very good. Great place for luck after shopping at the H-Mart next door.

HIDDEN GEM! I recently discovered Gahwa, a hole in the wall with amazing authentic comfort Korean food. Their kimchi is perfectly sour, spicy, with a satisfying crunch. the Seolleongtang was creamy and savory. You season it yourself so the soup is seasoned to your taste and preference. The japchae was delicious, and this says a lot. I normally don't gravitate towards ordering japchae but I'm really glad I did! It was flavorful and truly seasoned perfectly. The seafood pancake felt home-cooked in the nicest way possible, similar to the masterpiece of a well seasoned granny. It was more flavorful than crispy and while I've had better, it was still a very solid dish. The service was also very good. Our tea and kimchi got refilled constantly. Authentic flavors, fair prices - definitely worth seeking out!

I decided to revisit Gahwa after a few years and I thought the food was not as good as I had previously experienced. Though I didn't think the food was as good, this place was bustling with costumers but still managed to get us seated quickly. This is a place that is frequent by locals. We had two of the Sellong Tang, tofu stew. japechae, and they seafood pajeon. The beef flavor was really good. The job was a little sweet their seafood pancake was a little bland. However, the service was excellent! We decided to come with family and they were very accommodating to our every request. Overall, would probably come back.

I walked past this resturant and almost went to another resturant because their front door look closed but good thing we didn't because we really enjoyed our meal here. We got the ox bone soup with noodle and an ox bone soup with ox tail. Also ordered some steam dumplings and it was very tasty. The resturant itself is cute with a lot of wood decor. Service is fast and quick, just the way we like it.

Inside (when we went) was loud, but it's the definition of cozy. The food is what I'm assuming Korean comfort food to be because I'm not Korean but it gave me a sense of home and warmth :) The broth of the soup is great but bland, so it's good that they left seasoning on the table

This Korean restaurant is definitely a hidden gem. Entrance is by the parking lot shared with neighboring stores and Hmart. The interior is simple yet inviting and comforting. We came around 1pm, were greeted by the servers and seated immediately upon entering. We ordered the oxtail soup, tendon salad, fried dumplings and bossam. All the food came out fast. Side dishes were well seasoned. The oxtail soup was simple yet delicious and packed with flavors! Definitely will return for other items on the menu.

This is where you go to put the Soul in Korean soul food! It's so cozy and delicious. You can bring your family here and all eat together. the banchon is fresh and they give a lot and can always give more if you want. the service is so polite and kind i really like it here. they're very nice to newbies at the restaurant and help out with the menu. i can't wait to go back here! this is my go-to korean spot whenever i'm in the area A+ great food !! yummy kimchi

Great service, low key space, nondescript door at the hmart parking lot. Food is fresh, homemade and delicious! Feels like a "IYKYK" kinda place. You must get the ox bone soup (Seolleongtang)! You can see two cauldrons of it boiling in the back of the restaurant. We also got the moksal/modum bossam and it did not disappoint. The pickled cabbage could be a bit more pickled but it was delicious nonetheless. Will definitely be back. This place is perfect for the cold winter months!

Came here on a Friday evening and was able to grab a table. Bossam was the highlight for me, big portioned, and the meat was fresh/ tender. Highly recommend.

I ate here 2 days ago and the food was good! I ordered the seolleongtang and galbi. However, to explain the 2 star review, I saw that they posted their health inspection score "C" in their back entrance window. The lunch rush started a line at their front entrance so it's easy to miss this health score from my perspective. 24 hours later I think I have food poisoning from this place. I'm still vomiting as I write this review. The worst was 3 hours of nonstop vomiting and diarrhea. I feel disappointed that I was negatively impacted because the food was tasty

Really good spot for authentic Korean food! My usual choices are the Pork Belly Bossam and a Seollongtang. The Bossam has so much tender meat and the amount of spicy radish + kimchi + salted cabbage is so plentiful. Pairing this with a Seollongtang is such a comforting meal. The Bossam is very takeout friendly and the best part is you can save all the extras + sides they give for future meals since it is a lot.

This korean restaurant on the outskirts of flushing was perfect for a chilly spring day. The main star of the night was def their LA Kalbi. My family absolutely demolished the platter. My dad was a big fan of their japchae and I had to order bossam for the table. It wasn't the best bossam I've had but it got the job done.

This was my first time trying seolleongtang (ox bone soup) and I really enjoyed it. The broth is so milky and concentrated but not at all heavy. As others have mentioned, just a bit of salt, pepper, and scallions will completely transform the flavor from bland to hearty yet subtle, even though I may have oversalted mine just a bit (be careful, a little goes a long way). This was such a comforting bowl of soup, and I felt the warmth reaching and soothing every bone in my body. The rice it comes with is also a little moist and sticky, which I really liked, though my friend wasn't as big a fan. The kimchi jjim, braised kimchi with pork rib, was at the opposite end of the spectrum, flavor wise. The flavors are so deep and pronounced, tangy and spicy and savory with a great sourness from the kimchi. It also has tofu, rice cakes, and pork belly slices to soak up the saucy goodness. The kimchi strips are long and hard to cut through, so make sure to properly chew through them as you're eating! Their banchan is simple but quality. We got fresh raw cabbage with ssamjang, pickled jalapeños, and two types of kimchi: the classic cabbage (baechu) and cubed radish (kkakdugi). Oh my lord, the kimchi was SO GOOD. You could tell it had been fermented for a while, because the flavor had seeped through to the core of each piece. So delicious and refreshing. I'd come to Gahwa all the time if it weren't so far away from me. But mark my words, this definitely won't be my last visit.

My first time trying seolleongtang! The place is packed with mostly Korean speaking patrons, and am grateful I was with my Korean speaking friends (who introduced this place to me). The place was bustling on a Sunday afternoon. The bone broth was delicious: clean, rich, and perfect for a cold, winter day. For first-timers (like me), the broth comes unseasoned, and it's meant for you to season as you please with the table salt and scallions. The rice texture was perfect, and the radish kimchi was so good (seemed better than what I usually experience in Manhattan). This is A+ comfort food, and will definitely be coming back for more. It's right around the corner from H Mart, so a perfect stop for a quick meal

I really enjoyed this restaurant. We ordered Seollangtang, Yuk Gae Jang, Japchae and kimchi Jeon. Everything was great. The service is fast paced and seating opens up fairly quickly. We went on a Saturday around noon and waited for 5 minutes. The ambiance is Korean mom and pop shop. I will definitely be going back.

This is my all time go to place for a good oxtail bone broth soup. It is so comforting, especially on cold days. For dine in, they are committed to checking everyone's vaccination cards. I appreciate their attention to keeping everyone as safe as possible with the sauces being individually packed and all staff wore masks. My party and I did not have to wait. It was a good spot to catch up with a friend for I did not feel rushed to leave. The food came out within 5 minutes of ordering which was quick. I have also done takeout from this place. They are also prompt to taking orders and pick up is quick. I ordered Dogani which is oxtail soup with gelatin of cow. It is very tender. It comes with a tasty dipping soy sauce that is delicious and flavored with garlic. I'd highly recommend trying the soup with the gelatin or the oxtail meat/bone.

Solid restaurant with an eel tank near the back. I'm coming back to try that for sure. Nice how to spot with a nice lunch menu - if you're looking to save money.

I've been coming to this restaurant for years just for their seolleongtang (ox bone soup). It's the best. They have two giant pots constantly simmering the broth. Just add salt and scallions to taste and enjoy. It comes with rice and kimchi (probably the best I've ever had) and sometimes they give you a small side of pickled jalapeños or some cabbage that you can dip in a chili paste. They're not really about the big banchan spread that other Korean restaurants do but that's okay because the quality of the seolleongtang makes up for it. The yeukgaejang is also pretty good but the seolleongtang is the star of the show.

I come here mainly for their seollangtang (ox bone soup). The quality is consistent every time, and it does not come salted so you need to add salt to taste. I recommend adding lots of black pepper and scallions as well. It taste sort of like pho, but a little more bland and less oily. It is comforting, sort of like chicken noodle soup. I also recommend their bossam (pork belly eaten with lettuce wrap) and jokbal (pig's feet). This location does not have soondae on the menu unfortunately, but the other location that closed down a few years ago did. Service is ok, though you definitely get more attentive service if you are Korean. It is also very chill and quiet here, no loud kpop music in the background, if you are looking for that type of vibe.

This is a great authentic Korean restaurant. They have a small selection so you know those few menu items will be absolutely delicious! If you are craving a hearty healthy soup or bossam (pork belly) this is perfect for you! The pork belly or bossam taste really good with the toppings they provide. The soup they specialize is a white gelatinous beef soup made in house. They give you salt and pepper so you can season it to your liking. The reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish they offer more side dishes.

Family style Korean , can get crowded on Sunday lunch time. Delicious kimchee, we had to ask for second round. They are famous for Gomtang so we have try that, Ox gomtang and hot stone bibimbap. The oxtail bone soup is normally served bland and it is up to the customer to season it to their liking. We add rice, salt, kimchee into the soup and it tastes amazing , the milky soup base is rich yet elegant in flavor.

In the vast sea of Korean restaurants in Queens, Gahwa is an excellent choice for those looking for something a bit more low key yet still delicious. The seolleongtang was my favorite dish/soup, followed by very tasty and flavorful kalbi. The portions are good size and the service is excellent. Parking is easy and free, unlike many places in Flushing. Highly recommend.

I ordered Ox-tail Soup ( KKo Ri Gom Tang). Every time I hear the word "Gom Tang" remind me of the picture below. The bear taking a bath in a big tub and that is what GOM TANG means in a literal sense. Usually, it has to be in slow cooking for over 12 hours to have that white creamy soup look appear, so I say they boiled it over this much of a period of time. It came with Kimchi & KKaDooKi, chili soy sauce for you to deep in to add flavor to that Ox-tail (yummy). they gave cabbage with ddewon Jang, bean paste dipping. those really hit home and brought really good memories of my young years in Korea. The price was alright, it was measured at just the right amount, I came a little late around 3:30 PM not many were there ( isn't that obvious?), it was filling, but a little reserve I had. Overall I like this place and the next time I come to flushing, I would definitely come one more time.

Came to this area to buy some pastries and tried this place. Below average service and food are also below average, place is dated and needs clean up.

Can be a bit crowded at prime dinner time but the food is great. Service was quick and friendly. Really nice to find a gomtang place that is authentic.

Top notch traditional Korean food. Been here several times and work by here. I have to resist coming here everyday for lunch. Try their kimchijiim! It's similar to kimchijigae (stew). Kimchijim barely has liquid or soup. That with a bowl of rice is the perfect meal. They have the best pork belly bossam. The pork belly is extremely tender. It comes with various sauces. It's placed alongside with salted Napa cabbage, shredded scallions and dried pickled radish. Perfect for party of 2 or 3 to share. You have to come here for any of their oxbone soup. I usually go with the so go ri tang because I love having oxtail in it. If you enter from the parking lot, you get them see two huge built in cauldrons... I don't even know what to call it! You can tell they boil it for HOURS! The soup is white, rich and thick. You have to season it yourself with salt and pepper!!!**** Don't drink the soup right away and be upset because it tastes bland hahah. Their oxbone soup is truly what they're known for. I wouldn't go there without trying it. ALSO, their kimchi radish is always ripen to perfection. Will continue to come here without breaking my wallet!

Came here the other day for their signature stew, gamjatang! This is perfect for a the weather, it's a loaded + hot stew that warms up the soul. It's loaded with spices, potatoes, cabbage, and the star of the show: huge pieces of meat off the bone. I mean just look at it.. I'm drooling just thinking about it! Make sure you bring lots of friends because its not a small portion. The smallest one for "two people" could honestly feed 4!! It's a very authentic spot, full of lots of classic Korean dishes. Only thing is -- service isn't AMAZING but the food makes up for it ;)

When the restaurant is packed with old Koreans right at lunchtime, you know the place is legit! I was in the mood for some bone broth so a Korean friend brought me here, "because it's a hidden gem"! The signature things to get here are the stews. The bone stew was steamy hot and packed with gelatinous richness. You know that baby has been boiling for hours. Highly recommend the cow knee soup with noodles. The tendon provides the extra gelatinous consistency that adds to the complexity of the stew. Plus, who doesn't love soft rice noodles. You are supposed to add salt and pepper to your own preference. Despite the simple and unseasoned nature of the stew, you can taste the rich subtle flavors of the bone broth. It's not your water down and bland broth. The stew was perfect in warming my body and soothing my soul - to a point that it felt as if I had a full hour long therapy session. After you finished, you might feel you just gain a few hours in your life expectancy. Full disclosure: as I am writing this, my body is still full of serotonin from the meal. The service is super fast, we got our food within 10 minutes after ordering. The price is reasonable $10-20 per for most dishes. The atmosphere is layback and warm. Perfect for a cold winter day or a hangover cure.

I'm so happy I found this place! Located right next to the H mart on union street, it's pretty convenient to get to. There's a large parking lot that you can park for free which is hard to come by in Flushing! The front of the restaurant is not extremely inviting, you can barely see any lights or anything from the outside. Most customers typically walked in through the back entrance. We were greeted and seated right away after checking our vaccination cards and ID. The menu is fairly simple, one page only, but it was a lot less overwhelming than other places with their 20 pages menus. After seeing the pictures of this place, we had to get the bossam of course! They have two versions of it, one with just the pork belly and another that is a mix of pork belly and oysters. We opted for the pork belly only, as well as a dolsot or stone pot bibimbap and a bindae tteok to try. After ordering, we were given some nice fresh barley tea and some banchan to enjoy. The kimchi was extremely fresh and I liked that they mixed radish in too. When the bossam plate arrived, my jaw dropped at how huge the plate was. My photo can't even capture how large this dish was! They were super generous with the portion of bossam for this dish and I love all the other sides it comes with such as the scallion salad, garlic and cabbage. Such a fun and delicious experience to be able to personalize my own perfect bite. The dolsot bibimbap was also great. The spicy sauce that accompanied it was a great addition to it and I also loved the noodles that were in the dish. It was the first time seeing that in a bibimbap so it was a refreshing change. I think I'd pass on the bindae tteok next time since it wasn't really my taste. It was a little on the sour side but it was my first time trying it so I'm not sure if that's how it's meant to taste like. Regardless, it was a delicious meal that I couldn't stop smiling through. This is a great place to come with a group and enjoy a delicious hands on meal together - highly recommend!

sooo yummy! the best seollangtang I've had. we got the bossam as well and it was an enormous portion for the price (~$30)

I am addicted to Sul Long Tang (ox bone soup) recently due to the chilling weather and I have been asking for recommendation among my friends. Gahwa Korea Restaurant is the top 1 from my friend's bucket list, who lives in Flushing's Korea town neighborhood over 20 years. The location is perfect and easy to park since they share a huge parking lot with HMart. We were there at about 7:00pm on a Sunday evening and seated immediately with adequate service. When we walked in from the entrance in the back (from the parking lot), we saw there was a huge bucket continuously boiling their signature Sul Long Tang. I tried their Dogani Tang, cow knee in ox bone soup, which tasted super delicious, the soup was rich with collagen and simply well flavored without any additional seasoning. I felt amazingly comforted and warm after having it. Only complaint was their sides, there was only kimchi served but their kimchi was tasty and flavored with sugar.

Got the ox tail soup and it was so good! Tasted light and hearty, the meat was super soft and tender. Definitely coming back during the winter when the weather gets colder because this will definitely hit the spot! -add salt, pepper, scallion to taste for your broth -quick and fast service. They make the broth in large batches since it's one of their most popular dishes- got our food in 5-10min max -vibe and aesthetic is really warm and earthy. Really felt like a hole in the wall

Came in when NYC went from 50 degrees to below freezing in the same day and you know it's legit when there are giant pots constantly cooking the milky broth. After being seated they served us hot tea and took our orders. It didn't take too long to get our kimchi side dishes and dipping sauces for bossam. Before we knew it our steamy soups came out and bowls of rice. The food is fantastic. There weren't a ton of people in but you could see other tables getting similar foods and some soju. The space is spacious and people would chat and drink while enjoying their meals.
