The 37 Best Restaurants in St. Louis, Missouri | Eater

"When chef Nick Bognar opened his 40-seat restaurant, Indo, in Botanical Heights in 2019, first the local, then the national food media absolutely lost it. Bognar soon received a lifetime’s worth of accolades for his profoundly flavorful Southeast Asian dishes, but it’s his deft sashimi that has made it nearly impossible to snag a reservation. Those who do get in can watch Bognar slice and torch rare fish like striped horse mackerel, young sea bream, and fatty tuna belly, all served with nikiri rather than soy and fresh-ground wasabi root." - Holly Fann

The 32 Essential St. Louis Restaurants

"When chef Nick Bognar opened his 40-seat restaurant, Indo, in Botanical Heights in 2019, first the local, then the national food media absolutely lost their minds. Bognar soon received a lifetime’s worth of accolades and critical praise for the profoundly flavorful Southeast Asian dishes he offered, but it was his masterful and deft sashimi preparations that initiated the tidal wave of national attention, making it nearly impossible to snag a reservation. Those who did get in watched Bognar slice and torch rare fish like striped horse mackerel, young sea bream, and fatty tuna belly, all served with nikiri rather than soy, and fresh-ground wasabi root. During the pandemic, Indo pivoted to a more casual Thai street food takeout menu, but the reopened dining room provides Bognar a chance to flex a little of his culinary muscle again." - Holly Fann

Just wonderful. Creative takes on SE Asian (mostly) food… lots of rich intense flavors. This is a really lovely restaurant interior with great service as well. Can’t wait to go back and try more - everything we ordered was noteworthy. Dishes are small plates served to share. Each dish sized enough for 4 people (at most) and easily shareable for two. Interior is warm with clean lines, dress and vibe is similarly stylish but not formal. Definitely a best STL restaurant. Recommend: Isaan Hamachi, Sake Yaki, Chili Garlic Noodles

I’m very picky when eating out because I usually prefer cooking at home and I was very impressed! I had the 2 vegan dishes: the salt and pepper tofu, and the chili garlic noodles. My partner got the mackerel and palm sugar ribs. The flavor was well rounded and complex, I was not disappointed at all. Price tag is a bit high considering the serving sizes but the portions were larger and more filling than I expected for “small plate”. The food came out very quickly, servers were pleasant and attentive, and the ambience is great, so in my opinion the overall experience is well worth it.

Google
This place is absolutely incredible and probably one of the top 50 or maybe even 25 restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of dining at. Each dish was thoughtfully constructed and the cocktails were unreal. I told the bartenders they need to add some type of side starch to the menu people can order to mop up all the sauce that's leftover with some of their dishes as I almost just straight drank the bowls afterwards. Bonus points if you can figure out a night when Sofia(sp?) and Hia are behind the bar as they were such warm hosts to chat with all night long. I live in Seattle but told my wife we should look into coming back to St Louis for a weekend just to come to this restaurant for dinner 2x nights in a row it's that good.

Google
One of the best meals in STL! Cocktails and dinner were amazing. Every dish was excellent. Our favorite dishes were the shrimp toast and garlic chili noodles. The service was great too - nice and attentive staff!

Google
Indo was the place I celebrated my birthday at .I have always wanted to try this restaurant out, so I decided to reserve the sunroom. The decor was beautiful, but the food was the main attraction. The ribs were the highlight of the meal, with everything else being delicious. Everyone should order the ribs and you'll be glad you did. They also gave me a surprise birthday treat 🎉🎂🎂

Google
It was a great overall experience! The portions and small and shareable, the food was enjoyable. The eggplant with labneh and chilli oil was my favorite! The chilli garlic noodles were great, tofu was great, fish with teriyaki was nice too. Loved their sesame roll for dessert! Service was incredible and drinks were delicious too! Had a great time at Indo.

Google
Came here for the first time and was absolutely blown away at by the food, atmosphere, and service. Andy was our server and executed the service perfectly. Everything we had was absolutely amazing with each and every bite. The scallops were to die for, the tofu was out of this world, and the shrimp toast was unbelievably delicious. We tried the mackerel and we decided our pallets weren’t ready for such a taste. We appreciate Andy wanting us to branch out of our comfort zone, but we went with other dishes like the cabbage salad and yellowtail. Perfect date night and overall experience.

Google
PROS: Great and friendly service. Not super fast, but not terribly slow. Food is great. CONS: Food is pretty overpriced for how much you get, which isn’t very much. Small parking lot with somewhat suspicious street parking. OVERALL: I would come back, but maybe I’d pregame my stomach, so I don’t show up too too hungry.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in St. Louis! If STL were to get a Michelin Star , INDO or Sado (their other location) would be one that would get it. They definitely got all their flavors down! I don't really like veggies that much, but this makes me start liking veggies. The Cauliflower was amazing! Service is great! I usually sit at the bar when I go by myself, but I do love their dining areas, especially in the back where you can see the outdoors. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Came here while visiting a friend to celebrate a graduation. One member of our party has food allergies (soy and shellfish) and our waitress Amanda was great with inquiring and making sure we knew what to avoid! Our collective top 4 items were: Wagyu (Crying Tiger A5 Wagyu), Yellowtail (Isaan Hamachi), Gyoza and Bluefin Tuna Sashimi. The Wakaze sake was so great. There was some nice artwork too! Indo was a delicious experience!

Yelp
SERVICE: The staff at this restaurant was amazing! They accommodated our large party. They even still held our reservation, even though we were running behind. The staff was great about getting everyone's food out. And they did not mess up a single order. FOOD: The restaurant is great for family style sharing the food. I really liked the sake sashimi and the salmon toast. I believe my party got two orders of the salmon toast. I think the restaurant has a very broad flavor profile. They use a lot of cooking elements that you don't see at other restaurants. And, the plating of the food is just gorgeous.

Yelp
Haven't been in a while and wanted to see their new sun room. Super bright and full of windows! Tried a few dishes that I haven't had before and we tried the pork lettuce wraps. Honestly my favorite dish of the meal was the yuzu coffee possett. I never would have thought you could mix citrus with coffee but it was amazing!

Yelp
A solid restaurant for a date night, with an emphasis on quality and not quantity. The restaurant itself is a fairly small and intimate space, especially if you are sat towards the back of the a restaurant. Parking is straight forward with nearby street parking and lots. I'm one that appreciates a concise menu, and iNDO thrives in that department. We were told that all selections were mostly small plates meant to be shared. Recommendation for about 6 plates for our party of two. That seemed like quite a bit, especially for the price, but we were in the food to try new things and went with the following five plus a couple dessert options. Laarb, Kanpachi Sashimi, Palm Sugar Ribs, Massachusetts Scallops, Crying Tiger A5 Wagyu The helpful waiter stated that they would handle the timing of the courses, which turned out decent, but had an awkward long gap between a couple plates. The food itself had some hits and misses. The Wagyu can just go in its own category as it was perfection. But I personally would order 5 plates of the Palm Sugar Ribs because it was that good (and one of the cheapest items on the menu). The Kanpachi and Scallops were both decent, but did not stand out in my eyes. The Laarb just seemed to be there as we picked at it. Overall, I would definitely return to this restaurant in a nice quiet neighborhood. Crying Tiger A5 Wagyu 5/5 Palm Sugar Ribs 10/5 (Crazy taste to price ratio) Kanpachi Sashimi 4/5 Massachusetts Scallops 3.5/5 Laarb 2.5/5

Yelp
I had a follow-up visit with Indo and this time I took a friend with me. The service, quality of the food continued to live up the first impression it left me with. I had again ordered the shrimp toast and sake yaki. We shared the shrimp toast and they were amazed at the taste and flavors as it was not something they ever had before. The saki yaki was something I ordered again -- the salmon was lovely resting in a flavorful curry sauce on the bottom that drifts across all spectrum of flavors from light and sweet to just enough heat. Among the other bites we ordered and shared was the trash gyoza which we both agreed was so great that we had ordered another round. The Chirashi salmon and yellow tail was a delight, along with the yellow fin temaki, and hamachi temaki and avocado, each on their own was superb! The Isaan Hamachi with the yellowtail and candied garlic rested in a coconut naam which was absolutely magical that I ended up drinking it by the spoonful! Indo is a pleasurable and memorable experience. Highly recommend checking out this location as you will not leave disappointment.

Yelp
between the warmth and hospitality from the second we walked in, everything was amazing. lexxi and sarah made our night so fun and enjoyable. we came in for my friends birthday, sarah walked us through the menu which might be intimidating. super sweet and thoughtful staff. lexxi took some goofy pictures for my friends birthday at our table. cannot fathom the level of kindness and thought put into every second we were there with the food and service. i could go in with no intentions and everything i'd eat would be amazing. you cant get a better experience. thanks y'all the thoughtfulness behind every minute was amazing

Yelp
New years eve at indo was something out of a dream. I had no idea I was getting myself into a 10 course prix fixe menu, but it was one of the best meals I have ever had. I'll start with the service. Amanda was my server and she was awesome. Attentive, polite, and overall it was an absolute pleasure to be served by her. Continuously checking in to see if she could help improve the meal. The interior is beautiful. Elevated, elegant, regal. The space is calming, sleek, and perfect for any occasion. You enter to see a small corner bar with about 7 seats. Then there is a small corridor back to the main dining area. As aforementioned, it was 10 courses. I won't bore you with analyses of every course so I will hit the highlights. To preface, I love seafood, but uncooked seafood is not my preferred preparation. That being said, every cold fish dish was superb. The tuna was so rich yet delicate. The sauces, garnishes, and accompaniments all balanced and complemented the flavors beautifully. Things like a coconut curry, candied garlic, fried wonton strips all elevated the dishes. The old fashioned was great as was the clarified daiquiri. It was coconut and velvety. It went down so smooth. The balance was wonderful. There were 2 favorites by far for me: the wagyu and the king crab. The wagyu--as everybody always says--melted as it touched your tongue. The tiger sauce gave a subtle kick with a perfect sweetness to counteract the richness. The king crab was warm and doused in butter. What more could a human need? Indo, you absolutely out did yourself. The staff were amazing, the meal amazing, the ambience amazing. I loved every second I spent in here and hope to spend many more seconds here very soon!

Yelp
I haven't been here in a while, but recently revisited with couple of friends for a nice dinner out. It's always a treat coming to Indo and I was very happy to see everything on the menu is still spectacular. Shrimp toast is still amazing and their cocktails are always spot on. I noticed since last time I've been here, few things changed but I'm not complaining. always nice to see restaurants making changes to their menu for the better, that shows they are working hard! I can't wait to come back for next time hopefully for their Happy Hour, I've heard great things !

Yelp
Intimate, unpretentious setting with great food. We had a great time and managed to finish a bottle of sake. The menu is small with small portion sizes and a full price tag. The yellowtail sashimi was our favorite. The restaurant does have fusion elements, for example the homey crab fried rice and separately the roasted squash were both hits.

Danielle D.

Yelp
Our server was not only super friendly but highly knowledgeable about their menu. The ambiance in the sun room was perfect at 7pm. Each dish was a shareable & packed with flavor. I wanted to savor each bite. The added touch of a birthday champagne toast was the 5th star to this dining experience.

Yelp
Took my wife and family here for a late Saturday night reservation. What a treat! If you can find a table, snatch it up. Drinks are great (I had a couple dirty martinis). Small plates meant for sharing. Highlights for us: Bluefin tuna; Toro tartar; Shrimp toast; Cabbage salad; Fried hamachi collar (that was our favorite); Gyoza. Warning... not cheap. But if you want GREAT sashimi, this is the place. Restaurant staff are friendly and helpful. They're quick to answer any question you may have if you don't understand what something is. You're not going to get a California roll at Indo (not that there's anything wrong with that). Super cool joint.
google avatar

Yelp
Indo is one of the top restaurants in STL. Love the sashimi combinations. They are always changing but always a pleasant surprise of flavors. Ribs are amazing(and I'm not a big meat eater). This visit tried the happy hour cocktails and they were so delicious as well. I rarely re-visit a restaurant as there are so many places to try in the area but Indo remains on my yearly "revisit list".

Yelp
Some of the dishes they offer here are actually unreal. Others were either not for me or too pricey for what you get. Still, the interior is beautiful and I would definitely want to come back. Hopefully next time with a different waitress.. Favorite dishes: Isaan hamachi (I could literally bathe in that sauce), uni toast, sake yaki

Yelp
We came to Indo for date night recently and had a wonderful experience. The food here was delicious and every bite was packed with tons of flavor. Our waiter was helpful and had good suggestions as far as which dishes to order. Although prices are high, the quality of the fish and amazing flavors stood out throughout this meal. To start off, we ordered the Isaan Hamachi and the Shrimp Toast. The sauce surrounding the hamachi dish was tangy and sweet, which paired well with the fish. I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious the shrimp toast was. The texture was great and provided a satisfying crunch. Before coming here, we heard great things about the hand rolls and decided to try the Benitoro, Spicy Tuna, and King Crab. Each roll highlighted the flavor of each fish. We also ordered the salmon curry dish (sake yaki) in order to try out a cooked fish selection. If you are a fan of Thai red curry, I'd highly recommend this dish. This dish was super fragrant and creamy. Lastly, we finished off the meal with some Mint Ice Cream and the Chestnut Cake. Both desserts did not disappoint and provided a nice sweet treat.

Yelp
It's a cool experience. All the dishes are presented with creativity and the flavors are different. They like to do the smoky flavor with a lot of their fish dishes. It's very dark but there is a lot of seating. The wait staff are knowledgeable about the menu and give good advice on what food to try based on your preferences.

Yelp
First time at Indo and we decided to celebrate our anniversary here! The food was delicious and came out quickly. We got 5 plates as shown here for the two of us and it was the perfect amount. We could have got another if we had wanted to feel extra full but it wasn't necessary. The vibes were elite and luxurious as the dining room is dimly lit. The service was great and our server was attentive and provided us with excellent recommendations!
google avatar

Yelp
This was an incredible date night restaurant! We were immediately welcomed by friendly staff and servers who excellently explained the menu and gave us great suggestions. We ordered a number of small plates to split but the two that stand out the most were the Isaan Hamachi and the Sake Sashimi. Both were to die for! I already can't wait to visit the sister restaurant, Sado! A truly top notch experience.

Yelp
My hubby and I came through St Louis for a little getaway and had reservations for Indo on a Wed evening. We opted to sit at the bar and Logan took care of us for the night and we had a fantastic time. We ordered the big Omakase which had an assortment of five hand rolls of Chef's choice, they were not cone shaped, rather the nori acted as 'taco' shells. I must say, they were very tasty and a fun take on hand rolls. The Toro was definitely the best. Then we had the King Salmon, Eggplant dish, Scallops with Ikura and a miso ice cream dessert. I'm not a huge fan of eggplant but this dish was surprisingly good. The King Salmon was very rich and fatty, paired well with the cocktails, and the miso ice cream was a little on the sweet side but the texture and combo of sweet and salty was on point. Logan is an awesome bartender and host. He definitely showed us a good time and showcased the Midwest hospitality beautifully. We were very glad we sat at the bar to get the full experience. We highly recommend checking out Indo -- great food, great drinks, and laid back yet sophisticated vibes. Don't sleep on this one!

Yelp
Like its sister restaurant Sado, Indo is pushing boundaries with inventive, beautifully executed food. The scallops were divine--perfectly cooked and packed with flavor--while the shrimp toast was a brilliant take on a classic, both crispy and rich in all the right ways. To top it off, the most amazing waitress surprised us with a complimentary scoop of their homemade ice cream at the end of our meal, just so we could experience it on our first visit. That kind of hospitality, combined with the bold, thoughtful dishes, makes Indo a place I cannot wait to return to. If you are looking for a dining experience that is both elevated and welcoming, Indo is it. Highly recommend! Let me know if you'd like to tweak anything!

Yelp
The older sibling of the two sister restaurants, iNDO and Sado--both of which I consider to be the best Asian cuisine you can find in STL. Of these two, however, I find iNDO to be more intimate and one of the best date night spots in the city. The menu highlights Southeast Asian flavors and is broken up into Temaki, Sashimi, and various small plates--all of which are listed from lightest to heaviest. The food is always visually stunning and equally delicious. Offerings rotate seasonally, however there are some crowd favorites and signature dishes that seem to stick around like the Issan Hamachi and Shrimp Toast. Be aware that the dining experience is centered around the idea of trying several different flavors from the menu and are sized for sharing. If you are not experienced with this format, the servers do an excellent job explaining how to course out your selections. Aside from the food. iNDO has some very interesting cocktail options, both savory and sweet / hot and cold. On top of that they also feature an excellent wine/spirit list which includes some great Sake and Japanese Whisky options. Despite gratuity already being included on the bill, the staff at iNDO clearly does not view this as a means to take it easy. They are incredibly attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable on all areas of the menu. iNDO is certainly worth the trip. Come with an open mind and empty stomach but don't forget the reservation!

Yelp
INDO is one of my favorite restaurants in STL The cocktails are always perfect, the service is on point, and the food is consistently incredible. 4 dishes that you "MUST TRY" are: Issan Hamachi - The menu staple item is a necessity! PRO-TIP: eat it with a spoon to get the full flavor explosion Temaki - The hand rolls come as tacos and pack a flavorful punch Masu Sashimi - Leche de Tigre and Charred Grapes are the combination you didn't know you needed but once you try it you'll never go back Shrimp Toast - This is one of my new favorite dishes. If you like shrimp, you NEED to order!

Yelp
If you are looking for an adventure for your mouth, book your reservation now, I'll wait. If your partner isn't so excited about great food, there are a few staples to fill them up also, don't worry. Our server and the food runners helped us out so much, they described everything to the point that we knew what we were getting into when we ordered. Which I loved, because I see foreign words on the menu and I get a little anxious. I'll start off with the easy ones, dumplings and fried rice. Best. Dumplings. Ever. There was this layer of something crunchy on top, it was fun, but I don't know how much I needed it for the flavor. I think the best part of the dumplings was the soy sauce and scallions were on the bottom, so you got it in each bite, but it wasn't there to be seen. I enjoyed the crab fried rice. If I was just in a mood for rice, this would be perfect, unfortunately the rest of the menu is 1000x better and made the rice seem boring. On to the fun stuff. Each of the sashimi plates were perfect. I would never order any of these fish items, plain, so to have each ingredient bring so much to the dish, and compliment perfectly, it was like excitement in each bite. The food runners explained exactly what each bite would be and what to look forward to, I really appreciated that. The mushroom tekamaki, I really enjoyed the mushrooms, they were crisp and very savory, they could be a really nice garnish to another plate. Now that you have your reservation set have faith in knowing that if you don't understand the menu, the server will absolutely help you out!

Yelp
Background -- I'm Chinese-American from Brooklyn, NY, and have backpacked all around. I have a pretty good sense of SEAsian cuisine after many summers in the region. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised by everything. The price was also extremely reasonable for the quality. Indo is an intimate, upscale restaurant in the Tower Grove area of St. Louis. They do take walk-ins (easier if you're in a small group, like 1 or 2), but reservations are preferred. They're known for their amazing hand-rolls and cocktails, and cool, dark modern aesthetic. Because I was dining on company per diem, I went with the small omakase (3 hand-rolls), an earthy cocktail, and the eggplant dish that was recommended to me by my colleague. The hand-rolls had fish that were surprisingly fresh, and even though I don't actually love sushi, these made my mouth water and wanting more. The cocktail was also perfectly balanced and packed a good punch to get you to tipsy. The eggplant was also marvelous lighter fare to combat all of the heavy meats I'd been having at barbecue joints in town. All around, a noteworthy dining experience -- though I'd say you'd need more food as a solo diner. This place would be great for larger groups where you could share.

Yelp
I had some absolutely magical bites of food here. It's a tapas style Asian-Fusion place, with an up-scale atmosphere and great service. As a pro-tip, come witha. hungry group, order 2-3 plates per person, and skip out on dessert. The wine selection is good, and we had a white that paired quite nicely with most of the dishes. Here were our standouts: Crispy Tiger A5 Wagyu: 100/10 - One of the best bites I've had in a long time. It's REALLY expensive for the portion size, sure, but I think it's worth it. The meat is tender, umami, rich, chewy, and perfectly cooked. It's topped with a perfectly paired sauce and the crispy onions on top add a satisfying crunch. A must get if you can. Toro Tartare: 9/10 - The toro meat was fresh and rich, and it came with little crispies which added a perfect texture contrast. Wrapped up in a sheet of nori, this was wonderful. Sake Yaki: 10/10 - The Salmon was perfectly cooked, the skin was crispy, and the curry sauce was packed with a PUNCH of flavor. A beautiful both visually and flavor-wise. Gyoza: 8.5/10 - The gyoza themselves were as expected but I've never had fried gyozas that were so perfectly balanced with crispy richness and delicious flavor. If you like gyoza, go for these. We also had several sashimi dishes, all of which were wonderful. The fish is always top quality and INDO never fails to make fun flavor pairing that excite your taste buds. Here are the dishes you probably want to avoid: Shrimp Toast: 5/10 - Tasted like a crab cake but with shrimp. The texture was tough and the flavor was heavily oily. Not my favorite. Black Sesame and Banana Roll: 6/10 - I want to give this brownie points because of the creativity, but something about the banana bread nature of the dish was off putting. The black sesame cream on the inside, however, was really nutty and delicious. I'm also not sure what the point o the pomegranate seeds were, as they felt sort of random and unnecessary. Coconut Rice Pudding: 5/10 - A bland, very boring dessert. It was slightly coconutty, but nothing special, and the crispy layer on top was too heavy for my liking. Again, skip the desserts, and fill up on some amazing food. You likely won't be disappointed with almost anything you get off the main menu.

Yelp
Everything was amazing!!! The price hurt my wallet a little bit but definitely worth it. The details are perfect! Staffs are very educated and friendly they will explain each plate and answer any question you have! Was definitely the best meal I had so far in all aspects! Will come back again!

Yelp
We had a fantastic birthdays celebration last night at iNDO. We ordered chirashi, premium seafood platter, trash gyoza, salmon/yellowfin tuna/hamachi temaki on Social Hour menu (5-6pm) and Hamachi Kama, Isaan Hamachi, Shima aji sashimi on main menu to share between 2 of us. My son got his own Crispy Salmon Rice Bowl and Trash Gyoza. I haven't been back to iNDO in ages, and I liked their chirashi bowl and seafood laska very much back then, so it was awesome to see chirashi on the social hour menu. Hopefully they will bring back seafood laska on their menu sometime soon. Everything came out very fast, tasted fresh and amazing!!!! Service was phenomenal - my server was super sweet and attentive. Good vibes- good food! Love it! We"ll definitely come back to try more items.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect with this but I left my hubby in charge of finding a cool place we could check out on a recent trip to STL. This was an unexpected highlight and so different than anything else we encountered in the best way possible. It honestly reminded me a little bit of Nobu- and that's not a comment I throw around lightly. This is definitely a special occasion place as it is on the pricier side given how the menu works. We did probably splurge a bit more than we normally would since we were celebrating our anniversary as well. Every piece of fish was insanely fresh. The handrolls are very unique but were amazing. The cocktails were next level and incredible. We also tried a couple of sashimi dishes that were delicious. Everything was insanely fresh and the pieces were pretty generous. The one slight miss was the crab fried rice. Flavorwise it was incredible and absolutely loaded with crab. However, some of the crispy rice was way over done and the rice was like chewing on rocks. It was also considered an entree but was pretty darn small. It's totally shareable if you order other things but it's small on its own for an individual portion (despite the price). Overall though, I would absolutely recommend this place. It's elegant and a bit funky with a cool vibe. I really enjoyed it.

Yelp
New info about Indo: Visit for "Social Hour" every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5-6pm and save $$$ on dinner. My favorites this visit: Salmon Skin Chips & Chive Dip $10 Cherry Ocean Trout and Yellowtail Chirashi $15 Yellowfin Tuna Temaki $5 Hamachi Temaki $5 But I totally recommend splurging on the Seafood Platter $75: king crab, scallops, Japanese fish with garlic chili butter. It's not on their normal menu, just the social hour menu, so you have to get their early to try. If you can sit at the bar, the bartends cube the best suggestions. I had the "Let that Man-go" and Sampalok Sour. We also enjoyed the Toki highball w/ Camomile and the Whisky Cha Boran. We're big fans of dessert around here. We shared the Chestnut Cake with brown butter apple gastric & fig jam. It had an amazing crunch texture from the nuts on top. Walk-ins are welcome, but don't take the risk, make the reservation!

Yelp
Definitely worth a try. The food is delicious but the prices not soo much. We had a three course meal and still felt hungry afterwards. The ceviche appetizer was great. The menu changes often. Loved the tuna! Good rolls Service is quick but they almost make you feel rushed. The ambiance is romantic.

Yelp
I wish I would have taken more pictures. Everything was just over the top amazing. My absolute favorite thing I've eaten in a very long time was the sake sashimi which was a dry aged salmon with a pineapple jam, Leche de tigre, and fried wonton strips. Dear lord that dish alone will bring me back there. The balance of flavors and textures is just out of this world. The quality of the fish was super impressive, would not expect to get the best sashimi I've ever had in the Midwest . The wild caught hamachi was my second favorite, the fresh pickled wasabi was incredible. The service was top tier we were very well taken care of, they made the perfect suggestions and told us exactly what to expect w portion sizes and how much to order. We were full and still kept ordering more things to try. I cannot wait to come back here and definitely will be trying their sister restaurant Sado.

Yelp
So I'm torn- there were a couple hits here, but there were some significant misses. I dined solo on a Saturday evening- reservation for inside at opening. I was the 3rd person in the door, but then I noticed others seated after me were waited on before me. Okay. Ordered the server recommended "Let That Man-Go" cocktail and then waited and waited and waited more until the server came over and apologized because they "lost" my drink ticket. Finally get the cocktail. Friends, that small glass was half-full at best. For a $14 drink I was not happy- did I say anything? No- because spit happens. Speaking of, when the server finally came to take my order and said "oh I forgot to tell you about the menu" and in the telling his spit me hit me below the eye -it took all my restraint not to Purell my face. Since I was dining alone I asked if the small omakase (3 hand rolls) and the shrimp toast seemed like enough. The server told me no- so I added the scallop tostada. It was more food than I needed. The hand rolls were all special and delicious and the shrimp toast did not disappoint. The scallop tostada- what was I thinking?! Just no. It was a Mexican Asian fusion with a bizarre muddle of flavors that should be retired immediately. 20% gratuity added. One diner- over $100- with shoddy service- and half a drink missing is so not good. Oh- thank goodness I was alone- the music was at max volume rendering table conversation a non-starter. Considering I was SO looking forward to this restaurant and drove well over an hour to visit- so disappointed.

Yelp
Had a great experience today at Indo! We just did walk in and were fortunate a table for two opened up on the patio pretty quickly. The hosts were very kind and courteous. The wait staff are awesome. I appreciated being given recommendations as I often like to order based on this. I also really appreciated that they asked about allergies before we ordered. We dressed business casual which matched the vibe of this restaurant. Nice lighting, not too dark or bright. My drink tonight was the cocktail, "Let That Man-Go", an excellent recommendation. It tasted like an Indian mango lassi with a slight alcohol taste from the tequila and it came with a lollipop that had tajin on it! Very cool. The green beans and pork gyoza were my absolute favorites. They both were so flavorful and every bite was delicious. The yellowtail sashimi was just a bit too salty for my taste, but definitely recommend the garlic noodles! The restaurant is pricy but I say quite decent for a restaurant of this caliber and automatic 20% gratuity added for all the hardworking staff! Very much recommend this place for a nice night out :)

Yelp
We came here to celebrate my sister's birthday and ordered the gyoza, shrimp toast, crispy tofu, cabbage salad, Japanese eggplant, short rib curry, and a few of the temaki rolls. We tried to debrief after the meal to pick a favorite, and it was impossible. Everything was incredible. The shrimp toast was a textural treat. The tamarind dressing on the cabbage salad has the most delicate spicy/sweet balance. The Japanese eggplant packs flavor, and the labna it's served with made me want to lick the plate clean. The short rib curry was the perfect way to round out the meal - imagine being curled under a plush blanket in front of a wood burning fire with your favorite book on a snowy day. That is the sensation I was filled with while eating this curry. Honestly my mouth is watering writing this review. Truly divine food, attentive service, intimate ambience. All of the James Beard recognition is so well deserved. iNDO is phenomenal and we will be back again and again.

Yelp
Visited Indo based on recommendations from friends. Me and my boyfriend are lovers of sushi and Asian food so we were excited! We made a reservation ahead of time and the restaurant was packed at 7 PM! This restaurant serves small plates and the waitress recommended 3-4 plates for two people. The plates came out one at a time with a short wait time in between each. The issan hamachi was good, can definitely taste the freshness and quality of the fish. The marinade was good, salty and citrusy. Came with 6 pieces. 8/10 Next came the sake yaki. This was a good portion and the salmon was tender and flaky. The sauce was incredibly creamy and flavorful paired with the salmon roe. 10/10 The scallops were highly recommended by our waitress but we were extremely disappointed when the plate came - 2 scallops for $32! It was incredibly delicious, especially the pea purée but not worth it for the one bite we each had. 10/10 Lastly, the omakase featured a wide variety of marinated fish. Great remove, generous fish portions, but on the smaller side (about 2 bites). 8/10 Overall the meal was good but we left unsatisfied due to the price and small portions. For 4 dishes and 2 drinks, the bill was just under $200 with tip and we left hungry. Unfortunately, hours later, my boyfriend's stomach became extremely upset and he ended up throwing up everything. I reached out to the restaurant via their website and Resy with no response so far.

Yelp
We finally got to try this place for our Friday night dinner and it was amazing! Service was fantastic and friendly, they make sure that they know your food allergies prior to the start of your dining experience which was much appreciated. We started with some cocktails. My husband had the taro shinju (sake, taro tea, cognac, apple and boba) and I had the Fuji Dew (whisky, lemon, saffron, ginger liqueur, sage and sparkling water) cocktail. He let me try his and it was delicious with some boba at the bottom... The taste reminded me a bit of an ube ice cream! Tasted more like a dessert drink! Mine was quite refreshing and perfect for the hot weather. For our dinner, we shared the following: * Shrimp toast - Loafer's bread, cucumber salad and mango sweet chili. * Yellowtail tuna sashimi - with furikake and ponzu. * Crispy tofu - served with fermented black bean, caramelized onion and chive salad. * Laksa - PEI mussels and prawns over red curry broth, ikura and chili oil. * Miso banana upside down cake with soy condensed milk. Everything was fantastic! I could have had another order or 2 of both the shrimp toast and the crispy tofu. Those were my favorites, for sure. Before we came, we did read about the portions and were prepared to have at least a few plates to share. But, I promise you, you will get full. We shared 4 different dishes and even had leftovers to take home and I was hungry when we came! If you are going to dine here, be aware that they do add 20% service charge to your bill. It is clearly stated on their website as part of a new standard and is also listed under the FAQ. Lastly, the place was clean and well-maintained. The noise level wasn't bad and although we were seated at a two-person table, there was ample space to accommodate a couple of dishes, our plates and our drinks. The dishes didn't come out all at once which was very helpful. Our dining experience as a whole, was a success and I cannot wait to return!

Yelp
Indo had some of the best sashimi I've ever had. The best way to eat at Indo is with ~4 people splitting every plate. The food comes out as it is ready so you are continually eating delicious plates. It is a small establishment so make sure you book a reservation online if you want to go a certain night. It offers both indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
The cutest little restaurant on the block. It's looks small when you first enter but there is more seating in the back, including outdoor seating. The waitstaff are so nice and knowledgeable. It was our first visit and the host took the time to explain menu items and give recommendations. We ordered the Chili Garlic Noodles, a few hand rolls and Sake Sashimi (which was so good we ending up ordering another plate!). The bill was a bit high, but definitely worth every penny. We will be back!

Yelp
Everything about Indo makes for an elevated dining experience without the stuffy dress code or white tablecloths. From the moment you walk in the door, you get the sense the staff is there to take care of you -- from making sure you know where the restroom is to making sure you order their best options. Last time I was there we had a few of those staples: the shrimp toast, the signature sashimi, and the cabbage salad. Everything is excellent but the shrimp toast is like nothing I've had anywhere else and the sashimi is some of the best in St. Louis. I literally have no notes! Indo is one of the best restaurants in STL.

Yelp
Bold Asian flavors infused into well-balanced plated that accentuate the fresh, high-quality fish! Environment: This restaurant is simplistic and modern; completely blacked out with accents throughout. It's dim lighting that makes for an intimate experience on a date or small group, but such that you can still appreciate the vibrant dishes in front of you and the company you're sharing the time with. The music was just right as well. This was our 3rd experience here and it was just as special to be there. We opted for a bar seat this time to change up from sitting on the patio and in the normal dining room the other 2 experiences. The bar may have just been our favorite seat of the 3 (indoor seating a close second)! The servers are very, very knowledgeable about the menu and were able to compare and contrast their dishes objectively. They also supported the order-as-you-go mentality so we can create our dining experience as we feel the night take us. Food/Drink: We started our experience with 2 drinks: the Bulgae Bite and the Curryosity. We already had high expectations since we've enjoyed their drinks in the past, and these surpassed them. The Curryosity is more on the sweeter side, while the Bulgae was more earthy and herby. Highly recommend the Bulgae!! The price point for these are phenomenal but taste like they should be worth a lot more! Next came the Gyoza, which is an indo staple that you must try. It's fresh, soft, and prepared perfectly with a crunchy cornstarch tuile on top making for perfect bites. We had 2 hand rolls (side note-- we miss the nigiri!!!): Hamachi Jalapeño and Zuke Sake. These hand rolls were presented in a unique little holder which showed off the fish. The rolls themselves accentuated the flavors of the fish perfectly. Melt in your mouth fish supported by a bit of crunch, acidity from the marinades, and perfectly cooked rice. We recommend the Hamachi! We next moved to the Isaan Hamachi, another indo signature, which presented the yellowtail in a vibrant orange broth that not only gave an appealing color contrast, but an extremely well balanced bite. The sweetness of the fish with the intense citrus of kosho and associated garnishes proved to us why this dish is one of indo's signatures. We're certain the other sashimi dishes provide the same bold flavors to highlight each fish. We finished with another appetizer, the Japanese Eggplant. Another very balanced dish with the thai chili spiced eggplant cooled with the yogurt labne. Our only complaint with this is that the eggplant was slightly over cooked, yet had a crisp skin around the edge that provided a subtle crunch. Also, the dish was a tad on the oily side, but is made up for with the labne. The labne felt like it could have used an herb- maybe infusing the thai basil into it? Rating: 4.9/5, this is one of the best places to eat in STL. The next steps for them (and for us to try) would be to see how imaginative they can become with new flavors and testing limits and ingredients that don't normally go together. We're sad they no longer serve Nigiri sushi, but their sister restaurant, Sado, seems to be opening soon which will feature Nigiri options-- can't say we're not excited to try it!! One thing we really appreciated-- when we were leaving, our server said "see you again soon," rather than "thanks for coming in" like at most other places. A nice touch of personability that goes a long way!

Yelp
First time here. This place which is Asian fusion food was a bit different from what I'm use to dining in California. This restaurant has won many food awards and food recommendations. We ordered an eggplant dish that was very delicious. It's the only pic I took. I ordered the crab fried rice and the serving was very small for $28.00. The best dish I ordered was the salmon skin bowl for $10.00 which is on a a separate menu. If I ever come back I'll definitely order the Salmon Skin bowl again.....

Yelp
I decided to treat myself to indo today to celebrate an accomplishment. I remember getting the shrimp toast from the last time I came here and knew that I needed to get it again. It was everything I dreamed of and more!!! I totally could have eaten another one! I tried their chef selected hand rolls today which come with 3 or 5 hand rolls. They were unique and well crafted. Each hand roll included sushi rice, raw fish, and a specific touch (puffed rice, etc). I also got the Grapefruit Girlfriend cocktail which was a grapefruit forward cocktail with gin and tequila. My second experience here was just as good as the first one and I will definitely be coming back when I want to fulfill my shrimp toast craving again!!

Yelp
Indo is a must visit when I'm in STL. Their food is unbelievable and they have a really fun cocktail selection. I recommend going with a group so you can try multiple items. The waitstaff is also incredible--shout out Kyle!

Yelp
We will definitely be back and I'm telling all my friends to eat here! The atmosphere was nice, not too noisy. Our server was very nice and informative and gave great recommendations. And the best part of course- the food. It was DELICIOUS. We started with the Shrimp toast which was unique and yummy. The crab fried rice (not pictured) was so good, flavor and crab in every bite. The red curry short rib was amazing. Served with labneh and roti bread. It seriously melted in your mouth and had so much flavor. If you're looking for a dessert that's not too sweet, the ice cream is a good choice. I like sweet, so I liked the chestnut cake better. It was moist, the sauce and fig jam were perfect, and there was a crunch on top, I don't know what it was but the texture and flavor was all pe

Yelp
Endo is small Asian fusion restaurant with a great chef, efficient staff, spectacularly, fresh seafood, and a nice vibe. Large menu, sashimi, and other delectables. Just as good now as it was the day they opened. One of my faves!. Recommend.

Yelp
This might be my new favorite restaurant in St. Louis. The food was phenomenal and outside patio has heaters that made it very comfortable even in the winter. Would highly recommend the shrimp toast appetizer and hamachi. Sugar ribs were a bit too sweet, would not get this next time. Make a reservation far in advance! This place is popular. Perfect for a special occasion.

Yelp
The sushi was extremely fresh, the waiter and service was amazing. I love how our waiter explained every item on the menu and had his suggestions. It was a busy Friday evening so we sat outside but there were enough fans blowing that you felt comfortable. I will definitely try it again.

Yelp
My first time here and everything was delicious! The restaurant itself was so aesthetic, I love the decor and the dining ware they used was also so cute. The food was phenomenal, and each new dish made me crave more. I think my favorite was the chili garlic noodles. The cocktails were also delicious and well crafted. The staff were so sweet and welcoming. Overall a wonderful experience.
