Best Places to Eat Brunch in Charleston | Eater Carolinas

"Petite shop Little Line Kitchen & Provisions offers a tight menu of brunch specials on the weekends (8 a.m.-2 p.m.). There’s always a vegetarian option alongside a meaty selection and usually a chicken biscuit thrown in. Past specials included a caramel apple French toast and a brunch burger." - Erin Perkins

Best Weekday Breakfast Spots To Know in Charleston | Eater Carolinas

"Tuck into cozy cafe Little Line for a big Southern breakfast with cheddar grits at the counter or order a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel to go. The chic Westside spot has proven consistent in its delivery of breakfast staples since it first opened. And if you’re running short on time, you can order ahead online." - Erin Perkins

Westside Cafe Little Line Now Open in Charleston - Eater Carolinas

"Charleston residents love to complain about the lack of 'decent bagels' in the downtown area, so perhaps newcomer Little Line will fix that. Owners Wendy Wenzel Gleim and Jeff Gleim ship in bagels from legendary H&H in New York City. While the couple has extensive culinary backgrounds (they previously ran Scratch Kitchen at the Wickliffe House), the small cafe at 176 Line Street doesn’t allow space for bagel production, so why not import? Other than bagels, Little Line offers biscuits, grits, and soft scrambles. On the lunch menu, diners will find various sandwiches, salads, and fries with different sauces for dipping. The shop also offers retail items like wine, crackers, condiments, and more. Little Line is open Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Online ordering is available. There’s a few seats inside and an outdoor patio if customers don’t want to do takeout." - Erin Perkins

Google
We had lunch here today on our way out of town. The space is small inside but they also had outdoor seating which was perfect for us as we had our baby/stroller in tow! The service was friendly and prompt, and the food was really good! We had the Brunchie BLT with mac salad and their spinach salad with fried chicken and honey mustard vinaigrette. The portions were a good size! Would go back if we find ourselves in Charleston again.

I was walking and I stumbled upon this hidden gem and it was definitely not disappointing. The staff greeted us kindly and efficiently. We sat outside to enjoy the weather and within 10 minutes the food was given to us. The food was absolutely amazing and delicious. This is breakfast spot will definitely have my recommendation and I highly encourage to give it a try! Thank you so much for the experience!

Google
A great tiny dining spot off the beaten path in Charleston. Just a few counter seats inside and plenty of seating outside. The biscuits are off the charts fluffy on the inside crunchy on the outside. Had the fried chicken with two biscuits and two eggs. So happy.

Google
First time visiting Charleston and me and my boyfriend stopped by this quaint cute little spot for brunch. And omg the entire experience was so nice. Everyone is so nice, the atmosphere is really nice but the food.. delicious.. best cheesy grits I think I’ve ever had. The food overall 5 out 5 so good!! This place is a must!

Google
Great little place. Food was delicious and the portion sizes were very generous. Bar seating inside. Several tables oitside.

Google
Excellent little gem in Charleston. Walked in unexpectedly and was greeted by Annie, who was lovely and inviting. It’s a tiny spot with two tables outside and counter seating for 10 people. Great music and good atmosphere. As a vegan, I’m always concerned about cross contamination and what folks really know. She was helpful and suggested the special- Community Garden sand which was DELICIOUS. My friend had the grilled chicken club with pasta salad and it was “scrumptious” and the right sized portion. We each had an Achtung- Drive-by Fruiting sour beer which was also great. Definitely stop here. It’s worth it.

Google
Wonderful food! We had the fried chicken and biscuits, chicken salad and the chicken sandwich. Everything was completely on point. Decor was great. They use obviously handpicked cookbooks for decoration. There is limited inside seating but we had no problem finding a spot. Highly recommend.

Google
My goodness, so blinking good. Service is amazing and the food is too. Grab a Blueberry Biscuit (think BoBerry but better) for your appetizer… you’ll thank me.

Yelp
This place promises a Southern brunch with (unusually) customization for most special dietary needs. It is a small shop with some indoor but mostly outdoor seating. The neighborhood was quite medical. If I had known what I was getting, I would have ordered differently. Their version of a fried vegetarian chicken sandwich is very fried, and with the enormous portion of french fries as well, I barely managed to stuff it all down and did not eat another meal for the rest of the day. They had other side options which I might have preferred, making no statement against the taste of the fries per se. Whatever they use for "vegetarian chicken" seemed like one of those wheat-heavy type products that is intentionally made with a fibrous texture to resemble something meaty. A chai was tasty but on the sweeter side. I don't feel compelled to complain too much because fried and sweet is kind of what you expect for this sort of cuisine. In my mind, I kind of wanted this place to offer something like the old vegan Southern restaurant (Gnome cafe), but it is not that. However, they succeeded in what they were trying to do, and I give them credit for being a Charleston brunch that embraces the words vegetarian and vegan.

Yelp
I know I've done a review of this place. They are the best. The food is amazing. Try something different every time. Honestly they get busy and kinda crowded. We've sat outside each time we've done here and it's been nice. Love that they have a little garden between the seats. There is more space to eat towards the side of the building though. Highly recommend for the food and the service. I like to bus my own table so they can have it ready for the next person sitting down.

Yelp
Little Line was the first place we went in the morning after arriving in Charleston late at night and it set a great tone to our trip! We walked to Little Line and were able to grab seats at the counter up front. The service was awesome, quick, and friendly. They even offered to get us extra ice for our water before we went to fill it. The food was delicious, I had a biscuit and it perfect. They had tons of cute merchandise and indoor and outdoor seating available.

Yelp
Very cute little spot off Ashley Avenue. Service was great, burger delish and timeliness excellent for a quick bite to eat. Good selection of wine and beer, as well.

Yelp
This was a gem of a little restaurant. It was close to our hotel in Charleston, so we went there for breakfast before heading to Fort Sumter. I'm really glad we chose this over the more trendy, well-known places because it was well worth it. The meal was more affordable than some of the other places we'd frequented, and the meals were delicately prepared with all natural ingredients. I had an omelette filled with cheese and spinach with a salad on the side. My meal came with a glass of wine, which was a nice addition. Everything went down so easy I could've eaten three more plates full. My travel partner had fried chicken with eggs and waffles. The chicken was juicy and everything was prepared perfectly. The serving size was pretty large. The whole time I'd been in Charleston I was looking for well-known restaurants, so I'm really glad I found this little place along the road side that was so cute and special. it's only open for breakfast so you have to go relatively early in the day. The waiters were very helpful and did everything they could to accommodate us. I told them I was in a rush to get to our event and they offered to pack up the food, which we ended up having time to enjoy there at the counter. Once again, I'm so glad I got to visit this place. You won't be disappointed if you eat here.

Yelp
I thought the breakfast sandwich was overpriced, and the service staff wasn't that. polite. However, nice ambience.

Yelp
One of the best brunches that I've had in Charleston. Great vibes. Very quaint. The staff is also very friendly. I highly recommend this place. It doesn't disappoint.

Yelp
Super cute neighborhood spot to grab breakfast/brunch. We were lucky to snag the window seat chairs as there isn't a lot of available seating so be prepared to wait for a seat or take your order to go as we did see a steady amount of people come and go on a Sunday 10:15am timeframe. Food was prepared amazingly and didn't take long for them to prepare. Little on the higher end of pricing for breakfast but quality and quantity is there. Staff is really nice. Would recommend and will be back!

Yelp
This small neighborhood cafe on Line Street is a great spot for brunch! They have been opened for about two years. The service is excellent and the food is delicious. The local roasted coffee hit the spot and the cheesy grits and chicken Sammy were delicious. Worth seeking out because it's off the tourist trail. Definitely a hidden downtown gem worth discovering!

Yelp
OMG this place is amazing! I finally made it back and we stayed and ate inside at the counter. Such a cute little inside, but only the 6 seats or so at the counter and maybe a small table for 2 in the corner. Otherwise, there is a small courtyard just outside that is precious. There was only one person ordering ahead of us, so basically no wait on a Sunday at noon, was incredible. I got the chicken and biscuit which also comes with 2 sunny side up eggs and I added the cheddar grits based on the servers recommendation. My husband had the BLT which has a fried egg on it as well. Everything was just delicious! The chicken came with a hot honey for dipping that was just right, the biscuits are incredibly light and fluffy and she wasn't joking about the grits - they were the best I've ever had. You know how grits are basically a flavor vacuum? Well, I don't know what they do here, but these are absolutely delicious. They also serve wine which is cute, do you can have yourself a full brunch experience if you want! I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Everything here was amazing. I loved how many vegetarian options they had available. The inside was cute and quaint, service was quick, and everything was delicious. The meals came out picture perfect, and even my 21 year old brother was impressed. It was all cook well and flavorful. I would highly recommend stopping by.

Yelp
Wonderful "little " local spot. Great service. Lunch specials are amazing. So happy I can walk to another neighborhood restaurant

Yelp
Great little spot that's vegetarian/vegan friendly! Their grit bowl with greens and veggie sausage was a standout from my weekend gorging myself in Charleston. The fried vegetarian chicken wasn't a favorite (too much of a bite with the breading), but I would definitely come back for the grits despite that. It does get a little crowded but worth a stop for sure!

Yelp
Return visit! Better than ever! The. Real fast sandwich is done well and the cafe counter seating is great for quick bite or coffee.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this sweet little lunch spot in Charleston and I am so happy we did. The place itself is petite with limited seating indoors and out, but that's the charm to it as well. Intimate, like you've walked into a friends home. Service was king and welcoming here. I got a salad that was very fresh but the chicken was a tad over salted. I also ordered a matcha latte which was refreshing! If I lived nearby I could definitely picture coming here for a morning coffee. The space also has lots of little treats to eat or take along on your journey like a select bottle of wine or speciality pasta. Overall, this was a nice place and would definitely return!

Yelp
Cute little cafe in downtown Charleston, tucked away in a neighborhood. I had never heard of them, but they were hosting a 12 Days of Bagels holiday giveaway for a dozen bagels and I was lucky enough to be one of the winners!! Yay me! I went down on probably the coldest day of the year. Cold front came through and wind gust made it feel like 20° outside. Plants were covered to prevent them from frosting over. I didn't stay to eat or purchase anything this time, but looking over their menu I know I'll definitely be back. I picked up my bagels and cream cheese spread to have ready for Christmas morning. Speaking with the owner, I found out that they have been open a little over a year. They are not just a pastry shop. They offer salads, sandwiches, and little plate items. They have an all day breakfast menu and daily special. They have a great brunch menu, and they even serve wine. There are many Vegan options to choose from, which is a major plus. Thank you Little Line for hosting the giveaway and giving me the opportunity to learn of new places to eat in the area. The bagels were a hit by the way! I ate it with the garden cream cheese (delish) and my son's made breakfast sandwiches with them. Happy Holidays!

Yelp
We enjoyed a delicious brunch at Little Line today! This was our first visit and we are looking forward to going back soon. There is seating at the bar and by the window, and it fills up fast! We were lucky to grab a spot by the window, because it was hot outside today! I had the omelette and my mom had a breakfast sandwich. Everything was cooked perfectly and the fries came out hot and fresh. We got a brownie and cookie to go-they looked irresistible! Little Line is a cozy spot with good food and good wine! They often have wine specials too. I look forward to going back again soon!

Yelp
The BEC BISCUIT WAS REALLY GOOD. The cheddar grits were a bit odd and had a strange taste to them. Would come back for the biscuits And skip the grits next time.

Yelp
Stopped for a quick lunch/dinner. Food was delicious and so quick. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. Smaller place with outdoor seating. Cute and comfortable.

Yelp
Best vegan chicken sandwich of my entire life. My neighbors at the bar (non veg) are also saying their food is the must amazing they've had in a while. Service was very good, the owner was bantering with us, and the place is quaint and unrushed.

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Delicious Cajun fried chicken on a biscuit-crispy and perfectly spiced! Bottomless drip coffee to get your day started. Service was speedy!

Yelp
This is my second time at this joint and I don't know why I waited so long to come back! They are only open Wednesday-Sunday, but don't let that deter you (plus no one likes Mondays anyway). They have an ever changing menu- but their biscuits are a constant and are a must try. They are smaller biscuits (5 to an order) and are served with syrup and REAL butter (I also remember getting apple butter the first time but you may have to request that now). They do offer dinner on certain nights (fried chicken is their speciality). In addition to dine in they offer carry out and other provisions (kombucha, cookies, other beverages and snack). They are extremely pet friendly and even offer indoor pet seating so bring on the pups (or cats)!

Karen P.

Yelp
We were touring the area on our golf cart ... Citadel & Battery area so we stopped in for coffees & a breakfast sandwich to share. We waited at least 30 minutes for the items to be delivered to our golf cart. It was advertised " melty" cheese, bacon & fried egg. The sandwich was cold( obviously had been sitting on the counter awhile before delivered) , the coffee was awful & service terrible. Find yourself another place! Oh and it was almost $30 for that!!!

Sandy N.

Yelp
Our food took over an hour to be served. When it arrived all the orders were screwed up. Food not good. Coffee bad too. Very overpriced for a bad experience.

Yelp
Best service, food, and drinks. It's a hidden gem, please try it out. You won't be disappointed! 10/10!!

Colton K.

Yelp
I really appreciated this place! Cute little spot you wanted even notice if you were driving over the speed limit. I got a burger and fries and girlfriend got chicken salad sammy and side of pickles. I hate mentioning a side item first but these were some of the best fries I have ever had. The crisp was phenomenal! The burger was very good and the toppings were very fresh. The burger was "clean" in the fact the bun stayed in tact and the burger and toppings didn't just crumble off. The chicken salad was super flavorful and had big chunks of chicken! The service was ELITE. Just two youngins in there but super attentive and very kind. Made ya feel important. As for inside this place, it's so cool. Wine bottles to buy, and coffee beans and tea to purchase. Overall a really cool spot that I hope sticks!

Yelp
A neighborhood gem, which are getting harder to find in Charleston. Wonderful food, friendly people. Best French fries!! Best breakfast and lunch, and Friday night dinner.
google avatar

Carly D.

Yelp
Staff is very nice and passionate. Cold brew with whole milk was seriously best cold brew I've had in a minute. I only got a biscuit but they serve it with honey and whipped butter and it was delicious. I paired it with eggs I made myself. I highly recommend breakfast here!
google avatar

Maddy H.

Yelp
Adorable little spot tucked away in a neighborhood. Staff was super friendly and the little spot had everything you needed to grab something on the go, lack a picnic, or throw together a gift for a dinner party. We grabbed coffee and bagels before heading to the beach for the day.
google avatar

Gabriel H.

Yelp
This has defintley been my favorite brunch place in Charleston! The vibe here is really cozy and while we were here the playlist was immaculate. The food is a little in the pricey side, but it's worth it for the good food and quick service. It's a little tight inside so make sure to come early to skip the crowd!

Gabi N.

Yelp
The worst wait time I ever had. Waited almost an hour for our food. Easy salad and chicken and biscuits. Service didn't even care or apologize. Just carelessness about customer service. Ridiculous wait. Save yourself an hour and head to another place.
google avatar

Virginia S.

Yelp
5 stars aren't enough!!! This is my 2nd visit to this cute corner kitchen. I was going to get the burger because I heard it was fantastic, but I decided to get the hot honey chicken and truffle fries again. I don't do well with hot stuff but this is a nice subtle heat that even I can eat and I love it. The fries have this unique crunch to them, and the truffle flavor is beyond delicious. The portions are huge. You could make 2 meals out of it. The young lady, I'm sorry I didn't get her name, is super helpful and sweet. Ooo and there is a rewards program. Listen, just go try it. I'm telling ya.....you will be so happy you did. This is a pic of the hot honey chicken.

Erica K.

Yelp
Fantastic food, service, and environment! We stopped by on our way through Charleston and we're so glad we did! Cute little hidden gem!
google avatar

Grace M.

Yelp
Cute little place!! Croissant is delicious! I was a little disappointed by the lack of goodies they had out compared to the images I saw online, especially on a Sunday. They did not have many breakfast options so not a lot to choose from.
google avatar

Jeff K.

Yelp
Adorable, cute little cafe/kitchen/provisions/bakery. Contrary to Yelp, they're open for brunch on Saturday & Sunday! Delish, southern food. Definitely have to try the biscuits! We grabbed some sours and ciders to go. They also have wine, staples, gifts, & provisions, as well as a baked good case with goodies. Can't wait to try the Cap'n Crunch Cookie!
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
We found this place on Eater and HIGHLY recommend. The folks are so nice, the baked goods are sinfully good and their food is southernly good. The market inside has some great local goods and stuff to go in a cooler case. Just do yourself a favor and grab their biscuits. They are to die for. If you don't stop here then you are missing out.

Donna D.

Yelp
Good breakfast or brunch spot. Hearty food options and well priced. The blt was great as was the breakfast we had.
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
Great little breakfast place. The food selection, while not large, is all tasty and ample sized. The crispy bacon, oh the crispy bacon, was done perfectly. If a restaurant cares enough to do crispy bacon just right: not burnt to resemble charcoal, not flattened on the grill to a stiff bacon plank, nor left with bacon fat that is wobbly, you know the rest is going to be good. And it was, the breakfast sandwiches were filled but not messy, the cheesey scrambled eggs both cheesey and fluffy, the vegan faux chicken sandwich (a lunch staple had for breakfast) was delicious and the french fries, with the correct snap showing further attention to short order frying prowess, subtly sprinkled with parmesan cheese, and the biscuit a menu item that the owners must truly appreciate as it was a fluffy taste of heaven. The staff very friendly and attentive, clearly proud of this neighborhood gem. Note, there is some outdoor seating, but the interior seating is limited: so on a rainy day it might get tight, but ours was a pleasant November morning of sun and fine food. May your experience be similar.
google avatar

Benton A.

Yelp
Great little spot for coffee and breakfast. The iced coffee is not watered down and is not aggressively strong like other places with iced coffee. The employees are welcoming and greet you with great energy. Defiantly recommend stopping by if your in the neighborhood.
google avatar

AnnaMaria H.

Yelp
Had the vegan version of the chicken sandwich and it was outstanding. Great service and food.
google avatar

Tom J.

Yelp
This place may be good for a quick breakfast sandwich, but I have a hard time giving it a great review. The food options were very limited. The menu options were also very limited. The only reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because I tried their grits (which I don't normally eat) and they were fantastic. So get the grits, don't plan to eat indoors and if you're ordering a basic coffee, then you're good!

Tt K.

Yelp
Went in on a Thursday evening, was a quieter day but the staff and service was great. The server I had was super friendly and great service. Got the burger and really enjoyed it! Think my server was named Jay! Definitely recommend!

Micah M.

Yelp
We were on the way to another breakfast spot when we saw this cute little place, the best bacon egg and cheese croissant and cheese grits I've ever had. Definitely try it out.
