Eatery in Rolling Hills Plaza serving all-day dim sum plus small plates in a casual setting.
"This location of SGV-based chain Lunasia is easily the smallest, even with the sizeable patio, so waits can add up on weekend afternoons. Lunasia serves very solid renditions of dim sum favorites like har gow, shu mai, rolled rice noodles, and steamed chicken feet. The execution is a tad sharper here in Torrance — more balanced, better steamed, and just tighter than its sister locations. The Singapore-style curry noodles are blasted with MSG and white pepper, making them ultra-delicious. The pineapple pork barbecue bao are crisp on the edges, the bun folding like soft tissues underneath. The only thing you won’t get in Torrance is the large dining room and big banquet tables, so try not to come with more than four people. Those willing to wait and dine in smaller groups will be rewarded with the South Bay’s best dim sum. (Pro tip: Put your name in line on the Yelp app.)" - Matthew Kang
"During the last month-plus, I’ve been eating an inordinate amount of Chinese food, looking for gems across the South Bay and beyond. I finally made it a point to get dim sum at Torrance’s Lunasia, a restaurant I’ve tried in Pasadena and Alhambra. This location is easily the smallest, even with the sizeable patio, so waits can add up on weekend afternoons. (Pro tip: Put your name in line on the Yelp app.) Usually, with Lunasia, you know what you’ll get: Very solid renditions of dim sum favorites like har gow, shu mai, rolled rice noodles, and steamed chicken feet. The execution was a dose sharper in Torrance — more balanced, better steamed, and just tighter. The Singapore-style curry noodles were blasted with MSG and white pepper, making them ultra-delicious. My two-year-old son winced from the mild heat but kept eating them, much to the chagrin of his grandparents, who insisted I cease giving him the spicy noodles. The pineapple pork barbecue bao were crisp on the edges, the bun folding like soft tissues underneath. The only thing you won’t get in Torrance is the large dining room and big banquet tables, so try not to come with more than four people. Those willing to wait and dine in smaller groups will be rewarded with the South Bay’s best dim sum. 2575 Pacific Coast Highway, Torrance, CA, 90505." - Eater Staff
"The Lunasia location in Torrance has become our favorite dim sum destination in the South Bay. There’s just something great about kicking off your morning with plump pork buns, jumbo pork siu mai, and crispy, crunchy shrimp rolls on their string-lit patio. All of the ordering is done via the QR code at your table, but the made-to-order dim sum dishes come so quickly, you won’t miss the roving carts. Come with a group after 11am on weekends and there will almost certainly be a wait—the space is enormous, though, so hang in there and you’ll probably be eating within 30 minutes." - brant cox, nikko duren, kat hong, garrett snyder, sylvio martins
"The dim sum at this popular spot in Rolling Hills Plaza gets steamed, baked, or fried just minutes before it reaches your lips. The South Bay location of this reliable mini-chain has a bright dining room with a string-lit patio where all of the ordering is done via QR code. Made-to-order dim sum dishes arrive so quickly, you won’t miss the roving carts. They’ve got over 100 dim sum items on their menu, plus a whole menu of Cantonese dishes, so we suggest going in with at least a vague game plan. Whatever you decide, make sure there’s plump pork buns, jumbo pork siu mai, and crispy, crunchy shrimp rolls in the mix. Arrive outside the brunch rush and you should be able to get a table easily. "There is no shortage of great dim sum in the San Gabriel Valley, but Lunasia is our absolute favorite place to get it. This sprawling institution has excellent food across the board, but it’s best to concentrate on their jumbo pork siu-mai, spinach shrimp dumplings, and green beans with pork. Lunasia is also great because it’s one of the few spots that serves dim sum all day through dinner. That way you can sleep in and head over without worrying about a mid-afternoon closing time." - brant cox
