Lunasia Dim Sum House

"During the last month-plus, I’ve been eating an inordinate amount of Chinese food, looking for gems across the South Bay and beyond. I finally made it a point to get dim sum at Torrance’s Lunasia, a restaurant I’ve tried in Pasadena and Alhambra. This location is easily the smallest, even with the sizeable patio, so waits can add up on weekend afternoons. (Pro tip: Put your name in line on the Yelp app.) Usually, with Lunasia, you know what you’ll get: Very solid renditions of dim sum favorites like har gow, shu mai, rolled rice noodles, and steamed chicken feet. The execution was a dose sharper in Torrance — more balanced, better steamed, and just tighter. The Singapore-style curry noodles were blasted with MSG and white pepper, making them ultra-delicious. My two-year-old son winced from the mild heat but kept eating them, much to the chagrin of his grandparents, who insisted I cease giving him the spicy noodles. The pineapple pork barbecue bao were crisp on the edges, the bun folding like soft tissues underneath. The only thing you won’t get in Torrance is the large dining room and big banquet tables, so try not to come with more than four people. Those willing to wait and dine in smaller groups will be rewarded with the South Bay’s best dim sum. 2575 Pacific Coast Highway, Torrance, CA, 90505." - Eater Staff
