Hearty comfort food with a twist in a chic, vibrant hub

"Think of Main St. Provisions as the unofficial clubhouse of the Arts District. It's always packed with a loyal (and local) crowd while flashy new restaurants around it come and go. It's also the best place in the neighborhood to get a steak. The menu changes frequently, but we like to start with dishes like Mexican blue crab cakes—dripping in lobster butter sauce—and short rib dumplings, then go for the 18-ounce ribeye, seasoned lightly, charred to a crisp, and sitting under a pile of crunchy fried shallots. The wide-open brick-and-wood dining room is always alive with warm chatter and toasting cocktail glasses. It’s not quite a party, but you feel like you’re around friends. photo credit: ANGIE ORTALIZA PHOTOGRAPHY photo credit: ANGIE ORTALIZA PHOTOGRAPHY photo credit: ANGIE ORTALIZA PHOTOGRAPHY Pause Unmute RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE" - Rob Kachelriess

"An Arts District spot offering artfully executed comfort foods in a relaxed, chef-driven neighborhood setting." - Janna Karel

"Main St. Provisions introduces exceptional takes on familiar comfort dishes like oven-roasted chicken with braised greens and creamy polenta. Standouts include a cut of duck breast resting on toasted farro and blackberry barbecue sauce and a plate of fry bread and dips — like that of savory white bean, and crisp and toothsome broccolini. Owner Kim Owens is often posted up at the front, recognizable for warmly greeting returning regulars and welcoming new customers. The result is a thoroughly approachable restaurant that’s just right for the booming, walkable Arts District. Know before you go: Paying for parking on Main Street is a drag but, for lunchtime dining, parking is free from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays." - Janna Karel

"Dinner generally starts with requisite orders of fry bread with hummus and a crudo of whichever fish is served that month — in this case, a wonderfully delicate yellowtail. One inspired vegetable plate overflows with spears of carrots in jewel-tone hues of orange, yellow, and dark purple, served upright with a dollop of tart, creamy honey-lemon sheep’s yogurt and a tangy parsley chimichurri. The carrots are roasted until lightly browned while remaining firm and toothsome — perfect for swathing in spoonfuls of creamy yogurt — offering comfort food that’s familiar and abundant yet surprising enough to demand subsequent forkfuls between bites of fall-apart short rib." - Janna Karel
