Denver’s Best Pizza Restaurants | Eater Denver

"Mark Dym opened the first pizzeria in Colorado to be certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, the international regulatory body for proper Neapolitan methods, in the Ballpark neighborhood back in 2007. So while it also offers New York–style pies — including one topped with its famous limoncello-marinated chicken — first-timers should start with any of the tributes to pizza’s birthplace, graced with ingredients like mozzarella di bufala, crema di tartufo, and pistachio pesto. (For those in the DTC area, there’s a second location in Englewood.)" - Paul Albani-Burgio

Marco's Coal Fired - Review - Denver - The Infatuation

"Just how legit are the Neapolitan pies flying out of Marco’s 900-degree wood-fired oven? The restaurant is the only pizzeria in the state certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, and while we don’t speak Italian, we think that means it’s pretty darn credible. You’re definitely there for the pies, but Marco’s has become almost as well known for its limoncello-coated wings and Nutella- and powdered sugar-topped dessert pizza. The Italian stops at the bar, though, where the beers are from Colorado and American sports are always on TV." - Allyson Reedy

Marco's Coal-Fired

"Set in the shadow of Coors Field, Marco's takes pride in being the only spot in Colorado to be certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana—a stamp of approval from the Italian birthplace of this beloved foodstuff. The crust alone makes a strong case, made with flavorful, hand-stretched dough, expertly fired in a traditional oven, with beautifully blistered, flame-kissed edges, but the quality of the toppings impresses as well, from San Marzano tomatoes, to prosciutto di parma, to aged pecorino. No substitutions are allowed on the Neapolitan pies, but non-traditional offerings will give guests plenty of room to play. Though the menu does have other offerings, as in salad and lasagna, pizza should rightfully hold the center of attention." - Michelin Inspector

15 Denver-Area Eateries With Gluten-Free Options

"As the only pizzeria that is VPN (Verace Pizza Napoletana Association) certified in Colorado, this coal- and wood-fired pizzeria serves up not just some of the best gluten-free pizza in the state, but some of the best pizza overall, period. This Neapolitan eatery flies in almost all of its pizza ingredients direct from Italy — San Marzano tomatoes, Prosciutto di Parma, fresh olive oil — including its gluten-free pizza flour. Owners Mark and Kristy Dym lived in Napoli for over six years learning the tricks of the trade; their gluten-free crust is so good, most people can’t tell the difference." - Nisa Sedaghat

Google
Was on the hunt for good gluten-free pizza and this is the best one I have found. Tried the Williamsburg and the Pistachio, both here very flavorful and the crust was delicious. My friend who is not gluten-free could not tell the difference. Also tried the Spinach Artichoke dip with gluten-free focaccia which was good. Went at lunch hour and it was pretty empty but service was a bit slow but not terrible, only one waitress. Would definitely recommend if you are gluten-free, lots of options that they execute well.

Google
Looks like a generic sports bar and nothing special outside. But don't get fooled by that. The pizzas are incredible. So delicious and great quality. We all are pleasantly surprised. When we are craving for pizza in Denver, no doubt that we will revisit here again!

Google
Visited on food tour only got a slice. Slice gave a preview of great quality anf taste. I want come back so I can give a more accurate review.

Google
I ordered via Uber Eats. The pizza was BURNED, it was essentially charcoal (see the pictures and pun intended ), I did eat around the crust and it was ok. I did also get their garlic bread. The Mariana was fantastic! The bottom of the bread was nothing but flour which made it almost not edible. Super disappointed

Google
AMAZING gluten free pizza! Dough is made fresh in house, is prepared in a separate area of the kitchen, and they have a separate line in the kitchen for GF pizza toppings. Server was knowledgeable about gluten free / celiac. The texture of the GF pizza was great, it tasted like regular pizza. Highly recommend.

BAD muji

Google
The pizza was good, reasonably priced. Our expectations were high after seeing them on the Michelin guide, but its just a nice wood fired pizza joint.

Google
This is a staple stop for me here in Denver, their pizza is always fresh and delicious. Outdoor dog friendly seating. Good location with a small but usually space available parking lot Nextdoor.

Google
DELICIOUS pizza🤩🤩. I was craving a quality pizza not like a chain/fast food restaurant pizza and this really hit the spot. The wait staff was all very kind and attentive. Food came out super fast, although we were the only people in there but still!

Yelp
Pizza after the ballgame. Service was super fast as the pizza cooks at 900 degrees. Honestly some of the best GF pizza I've ever had. Kids enjoyed their cheese and pepperoni pizza and we all devoured the GF Nutella dessert pizza. Location has nice decor and seemed like a popular spot after an afternoon game.

Yelp
This was our first stop as part of our Downtown Denver Food Tour. We all had a slice of the Margherita Pizza, and it was delicious! At first I thought, how good can a pizza be anyway. But it was amazing with the subtle layers of flavor and coal charred edges on one heavenly slice. It's kid-friendly with booths and all, but the place feels like a downtown bar. It's casual and laid-back, as you watch them make pizza in the open brick ovens. They took us downstairs to the basement, which would be a great separate private dining for special occasions. It's located a block or two from the ballpark, so it gets quite busy after a game, other than on the weekends of course. They do take reservations.

Yelp
This was our first place on the Downtown Denver Food Tour that we did today. We got to sample their Margarita pizza and it was so good that we decided to come back after the tour was over. This time we tried a pizza ring filled with ricotta and mozzarella cheeses topped with prosciutto, arugula, and grape tomatoes in the center of it drizzled with balsamic vinegar - OMG! Chris is a wonderful bartender and took very good care of us. I don't remember the last time I had such a good espresso martini! Definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Yelp
I got a vegan Queens pizza, it was tasty but very little toppings for $18. My friends got the regular ones and their toppings were more generous. Service was not good. The 4 stars is for all other pizzas, not mine!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome pizza! Amazing service in a very clean environment. Will definitely come back! Don't forget to try the Nutella pizza!!
google avatar

Yelp
Took my wife and daughter on the Delicious Denver Food Tour and the first stop was Marcos Coal Fired pizza!! Chefs kiss ! You cannot get any closer to the original flavor and artisan taste of Naples Italy pizza.
google avatar

Kenna G.

Yelp
Good pizza!!! Just not great. Pistachio pie was my favorite 4/5. Toscano was a 3/5 and Abruzzo was a 2.8/5, both lacked flavor. These pies are very "insta worthy", decorated well! Loved their outdoor patio, beautiful painted murals. Great service!

Yelp
Visiting out of state. Walked in, very empty . Got greeted and Sat down. Not much in the Menu. In which there isn't quite a variety of appetizer options very limited pizza options. I did see make your own pizza, but If I remember correctly it was more like add your own topping on top of a margherita Pizza. Warning No Fries My sandwich I got wasn't bad but it came with tomato, and I do not like tomatoes and this was not on the menu as an ingredient topping or list. So I removed 1 star. Our waitress very warming and attentive to our table but towards kudos to her.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered online and it would really smooth on Tuesdays they have half price Margarita pizzas which is what I got and it was absolutely delicious The exterior is nothing to be impressed by but once you walk into the interior you can tell that they've taken great care and they're sitting Arrangements offer a good variety of choice whether you're at a table or a slide in for two or sit at the bar
google avatar

Deb H.

Yelp
Fantastic pizza. Real Italian pizza here! Highly suggest you try this place. Large pizza cut into six slices was enough for 4 people. The Lemoncello was amazing
google avatar

Chandana K.

Yelp
Cozy spot, good hangout place with friends or for a date. Would recommend reservations. Got lucky when we showed up without a reservation. Only one table was available and we were seated. The server was friendly, very quick. Tried the focaccia bread, garlic cheese bread and queens pizza. All of them had classic flavors and tasted great.
google avatar

Yelp
Great pizza! Don't let the decor fool you we'd probably do carry out next time because they were slammed but we'll definitely be back. The chicken pizza was a skip but the other one was fabulous.

Diane R.

Yelp
Pizza was a 2 service was a 5. Outter crust was nice and crisp (a little burnt but in a good burnt bubble way for the most part) but the bottom was extremely soggy, too much cheese in the middle had to pick at it (probably what caused the soggyness). Server saw I went to eat my pickup order outside and literally stopped by to check if there was anything I needed and took the trash in w him- if I try this place for a second time to test it out it will 100% be thanks to service on the first visit
google avatar

Aly G.

Yelp
Really enjoy this place for a speciality pizza! Great flavor options to choose from. Pricier than I'd like for the size, but truly delicious. Good service here. Enjoyed the lowkey atmosphere for dinner time.

Yelp
This is hands down the best food in Denver from the appetizers to the pizza. Do yourself a favor and get the Calabrian wings with a side of the creamy parmesan dressing. They have a little kick and the dressing is like garlicy ranch. The Caesar salad was good you can tell the dressing is made from scratch (in a good way). The pizza was the star of the show. We got the Sicilia which was just enough for 2 people to split. The cheese and the meat and everything was loaded and with the creamy parmesan dressing was an absolute game changer. Will be returning here every time i come back to Denver!

Yelp
I just was not able to figure out why people think Marco's is like the best thing ever. It was terrible. The restaurant was in a meh part of downtown, which is probably fine during ballgames but not on a random Friday afternoon. The restaurant was also dirty, everything on the table had grime and dirt on it including the condiment shakers. Our waiter was terrible, every question was annoying him, he wouldn't help us make a pizza vegetarian (which simply consisted of omitting meat), he rushed us at every turn, etc. The menu is very small so just taking meat off of a pizza to accommodate a vegetarian would've been nice. The pizza itself was a horrible, soggy, undercooked, cold mess. It was just a Margherita pizza on a very not busy day, so I'm not sure why they couldn't cook it properly, but alas, it was gross. We also got a salad which was just arugula on a plate with some tomatoes. Boring. Never again. Glad I tried it, but never again.

Yelp
Just a short walk from my apartment door I found Marco's coal fired. Delicious pizza. Echo in around four or five. It's not super busy, but it looks like they're going through the shift change process. The guys seem like their energy was great my waiter his name was Issac. He was extremely attentive, kind, and prompt. I ordered the Toscano at his recommendation and goodness was it be delicious 10 out of time then crust fresh ingredients on top cooked perfectly not chewy not crispy not hard. It was perfect. You can tell that they get packed. But the vibe all around and the restaurant was super chill. I just moved further into downtown so I'm excited to find all the gyms I can and this is definitely now at the top of my list. Oh, and don't forget about their happy hour or they have six dollar mules!! They're goooooood!
google avatar

Felicia C.

Yelp
We ordered through DoorDash. The pizza was good... it was nothing out of this world. The garlic bread was tasty with the marinara. There were parts of the bread that were extra burned so we maybe ate 3/4th of it.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by Marco's Coal Fired for their weekday lunch deal. At $11 for pizza, choice of soup or salad, and a fountain drink, is a great deal. Note, there's an up charge for the Caesar salad -- our server didn't mention this. As for the star of the show, the Neapolitan style pizza, it fell a bit short. It could have used some more time in the oven and the sauce lacked a depth of flavor. I have to give this place a 3-stars because the pizza did not hit the mark.
google avatar

Ruthie P.

Yelp
If you are in the area and looking for a good brick oven pizza, definitely check it out. Came here Monday night and got seated right away. Good wine and alcohol selection too. Quick service and good pizza. They do not put too much red sauce or thick crust. Good pizza for the price.

Yelp
Gum stuck to the plates? Seriously? One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Where do I even start? First, there was actual gum stuck to the bottom of one of our plates. Yes--gum. That alone should've been enough to walk out, but we gave them the benefit of the doubt and stayed. Then our pizza came out burnt to a crisp--like, completely inedible. We sent it back, hoping for a quick fix. On top of that, the second pizza they gave us was the wrong pizza entirely. Not even close to what we ordered. Here's the worst part: got told sorry for the errors, but no discount and no sense of accountability whatsoever. The staff seemed like they just wanted us to deal with it and move on. Between the hygiene issues, burnt food, wrong order, and total lack of customer service, this place clearly does not care about its guests. Definitely won't be back, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
WOW! I am a pizza connoisseur and snob, so trust me when I talk about pizza. I even own my own wood-fired pizza oven. But when in Denver, eat Pizza. The ambiance was not just a typical pizza joint; it was quaint and similar to Italy's perfect small Italian restaurant. We visited one night, and it was so good that we went back the next. The servers and bartenders were knowledgeable and offered great suggestions. I loved the Margherita with sausage added, and the second best was the Hell's Kitchen. Our friend also had the Brooklyn, which is his favorite. PROS: Excellent! It's the best pizza I have ever eaten. The crust is to die for. It's light, fluffy, and full of flavor, with that slightly charred edge! Drinks, everything you could want (except COORS, hahaha). They even have a Super Tuscan, which was terrific. Watching the oven in the background and seeing the pizzas moving through was a great experience (and also warmer in the back near the ovens). CONS: If it is cold outside and you are sitting in the front entrance area or in front of the bar, it can be extremely cold. DO NOT LET THAT STOP YOU FROM STOPPING INTO THIS PERFECT PIZZERIA.

Yelp
Checked this place out and knew about it from food pass! They had some vegan subs for the cheese which was nice if that's something you are wanting. I am not vegan but lactose intolerant, and some days I try to be nice to my body. This was one of the days. Tried an Amber ale that paired well with then Brooklyn pizza I got! the server was patient and attentive and would be kind when it took me 10 years to pick something and was frequently checking with us to make sure all was well. The place itself was super cute, and after happy hour ended they dimmed the lights.... so you know it was go time! The pizza was decent, though the crust was a little burnt, if you don't mind that then hey oh... get after it. this is a place to check out.
google avatar

Yelp
What a great pizza place! We had a great time here for dinner and we were able to grab a dinner reservation easily which I always appreciate. The vibes were casual but fun. Cocktails were delicious and we got 2 large limoncello shots to start. The burrata appetizer was amazing to start, particularly the pesto. We then got a margarita pizza and the butcher. We really enjoyed the pizza! Had a nice chat crust and ingredients were tasty. We got the Nutella pizza and tiramisu to go and they were both a great way to finish off the night in PJs. I'm a fan! Will definitely return.
google avatar

Yelp
Best pizza I have had in a long time and happy hour prices are great. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Amazing pizza! We went for a graduation dinner and this restaurant deserves all of the positive fan fare it's received! The pizza was a great mix of authentic Neapolitan style pizzas and original twists of their own. For those who don't know, this restaurant is certified by Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, the only VPN certified pizzeria in the State of Colorado. Basically it means they have authentic and amazing Neapolitan pizza with the Italian stamp of approval. We had our graduation party in the basement. The upstairs and downstairs both had a trendy yet homey vibe. The staff did very well accommodating a large group with some young children and we all went home full and happy!

Yelp
Decided we would check out Marco's Coal Fired this afternoon. We decided that we would order the Jumbo Limoncello Chicken Wings, Garlic Cheese Bread with Marinara, Margherita pizza and a Double Pepperoni pizza. The wings were delicious with a sweet and tart flavor to them, very tender. The Garlic Cheese Bread was cooked perfectly with plenty of cheese on them cooked perfectly and the dipping sauce OMG was so tasty. You'll want more. On the main courses, 1st the Margherita Pizza which was cooked in the coal fired oven which gave a great coal fired flavored to the crust. The San Marzano tomato sauce was so flavorful. Unless you have had it, you have no concept of what sauce is supposed to taste like. The mozzarella and the pecorino Romano cheeses had so much flavor. Add the fresh Basil and the EVOO and you have a delicious and flavorful pizza. No other place is going to match this. The pepperoni pizza had a ton of flavor also. On to one of the best thing about our experience and that was our waiter Jason. He rocked it the whole time, ensuring our drinks were refilled, making sure we had a phenomenal meal. And one of the staff saw me looking around at the different pictures on the wall from our table and came over to check with me if there was a problem. That is attention to your customers. Great job. We all agreed that there is no other pizza place we have to go to. This is the best!!
google avatar

Gretchen T.

Yelp
Came here after a Sunday afternoon Rockies game off of a recommendation from my cousin. She said they had the best gluten free pizza she's ever had. I'm not gluten free, but I love a good pizza, so I walked over from the ballpark to check it out. Was able to get seated right away. I ordered a mule since it was happy hour and got the del rey pizza that came with prosciutto, mushrooms and truffle oil. It was one of the best pizza I've had! I ate the whole thing in one sitting it was so good. The truffle oil flavor was nice and strong, the crust was the perfect texture, there was just enough toppings to cover the whole pizza. Would come back to eat the same thing or try something new. Came out to $36 with a 20% tip.
google avatar

Ivy H.

Yelp
We came here before a game at Coors stadium. The pizza was phenomenal and salads were tasty. Would definitely come back here. Really appreciate not 1 but TWO explicitly labeled VEGAN pizzas on the menu. Both my kids crushed their dinner too. Overall perfect before game nicer dinner.
google avatar

Yelp
Arguably the best margherita pizza in Denver. Great wings too. The lemon pepper wings are something special.
google avatar

Yelp
Found this gem on a food tour while visiting Denver. I liked it so much I came back. The pizza is amazing, light ,airy with all the right flavors. Isaac at the bar is super attentive and the beers are amazing. This is a must try while visiting Denver .

Yelp
It'd been awhile since my last visit, but I still really like Marco's. The service is great- last night we had Shelby and she was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and did a great job. They gave happy hour every day from 3-6, which we were able to take advantage of as we had plans later on. Our pizzas were delicious and we have leftovers for lunch today, which I'm definitely looking forward to!

Maedeh R.

Yelp
We were a group of 6 and all of us enjoyed our pizza. The indoor dining area was nice too.

Brooke M.

Yelp
This was the best gluten free pizza I have ever had in my life. It was a nice restaurant not too far from the ballpark. It was the only nice establishment in the mix of really strange bars and lots of crack and meth addicts. But that pizza was worth the hazardous trek on foot from our hotel a quarter of a mile away. I hope Marcos can work with the city and the police to clear the path there to make it safer for pedestrians to make the short journey there. Seriously, best gf pizza.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
get ready to have the very best pizza pie you'll ever encounter . sauce , meat , crust so perfect words can't describe . please try this when in denver you will be thanking me for it everyday . denver's very best pie and imo best in the USA
google avatar

Randy R.

Yelp
Pizza was excellent and our waiter was very helpful. We had several questions about the menu and beer selection and he took the time to walk us through both. We both enjoyed our pizza selections and will definitely go there again when in Denver. I would recommend this place to everyone including my family and friends.
google avatar

Petro K.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Saturday and had a reservation but the place wasn't that full. Vibes are 10/10, music was flowing, good pizza was eaten, everyone is just happy. Good for groups too as they have some bigger tables. They also have gluten free options as well. Already can't wait for the next visit.

Pierre B.

Yelp
The food was amazing. You couldn't go wrong with anything on the menu. The fiance and I were visiting Denver for a few days and found Marco's from a food tour we took. Boy the tour was the best thing ever I kid you not, we went everyday of the trip to get the one and only Margherita pizza. The tour guide presented it to us by explaining the original ingredients of the margherita pizza, and this place does just that. Perfect pizza, best pizza I've had and I live in in LA. A lot of spots but boy that crust and simplicity of the sauce but very depth goes a long way. I'd consider moving to Colorado and use Marco's as a deciding factor.
google avatar

Yelp
Great pizza open later so you can get a Togo after drinks out! Great location and friendly staff
google avatar

Imee V.

Yelp
When you first walk in, one is welcomed by the warmth and ambiance of the place. Rustic, cozy, and friendly. Our server was top notch, and recognized that we had a basketball game in the next hour, and delivered on all levels without rushing us. He made a few recommendations with libations since we all had varied tastes in brew, and liquor. The cocktails didn't disappoint, nor did the choice of greens and pizza selections (one leaning more towards protein, and other veggie). Great experience which satisfied us all on a cold and snowy day before game time. We had ample time to make it to the game - and yes, the Nuggets won! Won on all levels! Thank you
google avatar

Tim H.

Yelp
The pizza is good. Folks are nice and service is good too. Hidden charges on bill not good. Food good transparency no good.
google avatar

Nata D.

Yelp
Can't believe this place exists. I so recommend it. Wish i was in Denver more often JUST for Marcos GF pizzas.. The lighting & atmosphere was warm & welcoming, a little on the darker side but in a higher class way. Our waitress was very sweet + attentive, & we got our food fairly quickly. From out seat we could see the kitchen & how they prepare our food; That was super cool & i'd often find myself staring at the process. Both our pizzas were amazing but I also ordered a Nutella pizza to go & ... oh my gosh. i want it every weekend please & thank you. If only it had some fruit on it, i still loved it. Can't wait to have it again !!!!

Yelp
Located on Larimer St closer to 22nd St. We were introduced to Marco's while on a food tour. The restaurant is clean and organized with patio seating, a bar area, and friendly staff. We tried their 'Margherita Pizza', which is made with mozzarella, tomato sauce, and fresh basil... with thin crust, slightly charred edge is prepared literally in seconds in their wood fired oven. This was such a delicious pizza, probably the best and freshest I've ever had. We also tried their house made 'Lemoncello' as a shot and was very satisfying. Overall, we had an amazing time here and will definitely return to try more of their menu items.

Yelp
The Skinny: Hands down the best pizza in Denver Overview: I've had Marco's a hand full of times now from takeout and dine in and I can safely say this is some of the best pizza I have. I'm not even a huge pizza person - and I crave coming here. You've can't really go wrong with anything on the menu - even just their margarita is drool worthy. Its a perfect blend of flavors between the meats, cheese, sauce and the crust. And damn is their crust good. Pro tip - get the parm dipping sauce to dip your pizza in - it is out of this world. Service was quick and friendly. I've only dined in once - but even on a Friday night it was fairly easy to get a table. Check in via yelp for a BOGO deal! Would I come back - YES! And all the time

Yelp
We ordered Marcos for delivery on a weeknight. We tried a margherita, Bronx, Brooklyn, and pepperoni pizza. We loved the margherita pizza! It had really quality cheese and a crust that was the perfect thickness. It arrived within an hour, though a tad soggy. I'd recommend ordering it well-baked/crispy if getting it to go!

Qingnan H.

Yelp
The food is great, however, I found the sign for women restroom is very offensive and sexist. For guys it's guys restrooms but for women's it's dolls
google avatar

Amber J.

Yelp
Pretty delicious pizza. The price was spot on and flavors were delicious. We got the one that was on special the we realized Yelp had a check in special for a free margarita pizza so we took that deal instead! And what a deal that is!!! I loved the charred crust. Sauce was sour not sweet like I'm used to but I loved it just the same! Great Happy hour also!
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for wood fired pizza and daaaaaaang is this stuff good. The chili wings were crazy good too but I ate those too fast to take a picture if that says anything. 5 stars even if the decor could use some updates cause the pizza is awesome.

Yelp
Came in for a birthday dinner on Tuesday and had Jason as our server. He was very attentive and friendly! Pizza was amazing, pizza roll was great, and the Nutella pizza birthday treat was incredible. Loved that they helped us celebrate the birthday. Jason was phenomenal!!!!!!!
