At Melba's in Harlem, Southern classics shine in a vibrant, homey space, serving must-try chicken and eggnog waffles amidst a bustling atmosphere.
"Need a snack before your MetroNorth commute? Melba’s, a legendary fried chicken and soul food spot in Harlem, now has a location in Grand Central. Make your fellow commuters jealous with the aroma of their “comfortizer” fried chicken ($4.99 per piece). They’ve also got fried catfish, mac and cheese, and other staples to go." - will hartman, bryan kim
"Melba's, owned by Melba Wilson, is a beloved soul food restaurant in Harlem that offers more than just food. It's a community hub where patrons can experience spontaneous moments of joy and connection, such as joining in a chorus of Stevie Wonder’s 'Happy Birthday' with strangers. The restaurant is part of Harlem's cultural fabric, offering dishes like oxtails that are steeped in tradition and love." - Ty Gaskins
"For the first time ever, Melba’s in Harlem is making their soul food available for delivery. They’ll be taking orders for mac and cheese, wine-braised short ribs and so much more on all major platforms between noon and 9pm." - hannah albertine
"When you go to Melba’s, the chicken and waffles are mandatory - but the short ribs are also excellent, and you should get a side of mac and cheese with whatever you order. This iconic neighborhood spot has sidewalk seating available as well as an impressive build-out in their parking lane equipt with string lights and all." - hannah albertine
"Melba’s is a classic that makes some of the best soul food in the city. Founder Melba Wilson (who used to work at Sylvia’s) was born and raised in Harlem and opened this place in 2005. It’s usually easy to get a table, the service is quick and friendly, and don’t be surprised if your neighbor strikes up a conversation with you. Once you’re seated in the room with colorful artwork everywhere (including a few portraits of Basquiat), order the chicken and waffles. (They’re mandatory.) The short ribs are also great, and the collard greens are some of the best we’ve ever had. Those collards are also stuffed into fried spring rolls with rice and cheese. Go ahead and order those as soon as your server says hello." - bryan kim, neha talreja, kenny yang, will hartman, willa moore
