Nuyores - Review - Greenwich Village - New York - The Infatuation

"In the former Il Totano space in Greenwich Village, a former Contento chef is serving a Peruvian—and more broadly South American—dishes like tuna anticuchera with rocoto beurre blanc, and crispy pork belly in a sauce inspired by carapulcra, a traditional Andean stew with peanuts. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists. RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE" - Molly Fitzpatrick

New Peruvian Restaurant Nuyores Opens in NYC | Eater NY

"A new, also-Peruvian spot from chef Oscar Lorenzzi (born in Lima) debuts in the West Village on Tuesday, August 26, at 154 West 13th Street near Seventh Avenue. Lorenzzi, formerly the co-owner and executive chef of East Harlem’s Contento, teams up with hospitality partner Jonathan Charnay (formerly beverage director of omakase Masa), who will oversee a wine program that leans South American. The menu centers on Peruvian dishes, including familiar favorites from Contento like the quinotto (quinoa risotto), plus ceviches, arroz con pato (rice with duck), black chimichurri octopus, lamb ribs with anticucho, and Chifa (Chinese Peruvian) items. They’ve taken over the space that previously housed Harold Dieterle’s short-lived Il Totano, which closed in January." - Nadia Chaudhury

Closed NYC Restaurant Gotham Bar and Grill Building Up for Sale | Eater NY

"A forthcoming restaurant from chef Oscar Lorenzzi taking over the former Il Totano space, the project aims to offer a New York–style spin on Peruvian cooking with most dishes priced under $30. Lorenzzi, who previously oversaw the kitchen at Contento (which closed amid a noted focus on accessibility), is positioning the new spot near Seventh Avenue to reflect his established Peruvian-influenced approach." - Emma Orlow

The Best New Restaurants in NYC

"Peruvians will judge a restaurant by the quality of its canchita, and Nuyores delivers: their crunchy, salted husks give way to airy starch and are used both as a free snack and as a garnish alongside sweet yellow kernels and bulky hominy in ceviche topped with frizzled strands of aji limo. The chef, who previously ran Contento in Harlem, paints with a rainbow of South American peppers — Rocoto’s ripe, meaty flavor is rounded with beurre blanc for Peruvian potatoes served with a thick, rare tuna steak — and the playful “causa tater tot” is actually a fist-size hash brown with an equal portion of crab salad held together with just enough salsa golf and finished with a jammy quail egg. The burrowlike room, newly outfitted with dusky wall textiles and dark leather banquettes, makes it a spot where you’re happy to linger over a glass of Carménère." - Grub Street

Nuyores absolutely blew me away. The food is insanely good…everything was flavorful and thoughtfully done. They put a really fun and creative twist on Peruvian classics that were unlike anything I’ve tried before. The salmon crudo and tuna tiradito were standouts, the crispy yuca was so unique (and the sauce is next-level), and the lomo saltado was one of the best steaks I’ve had in the city. Truly everything we had was awesome. The drinks deserve their own shoutout too. We tried a few incredible Chilean wines recommended by one of the owners, Jonathan, to pair with our meal. We also enjoyed the Pisco Sour and Carajillo cocktails which were perfectly balanced and honestly, just delicious. You can tell a lot of care goes into the whole beverage program. The space feels warm and special, and it’s exciting to have something fresh and different in the West Village. For our group of 5, we had 8 dishes plus the lomo saltado which was a fun way to explore the menu. The curved booth in the back made the whole experience even better. It would be just as great for a date night. I’m already planning my next visit. Nuyores is the real deal and I can’t recommend it enough!

Do not sleep on going to this place! I can tell they’re going to blow up so go while you can still get a reservation. If you’re on a date, sit at the bar. It is so beautiful and unique. Steven, the bar extraordinaire, made the best Pisco Sour I’ve ever had. The ambiance and vibe was incredible from the design, to the music, and even the people. The food was top notch, a rich mix of flavors, and good portion sizes to both share yet enjoy multiple dishes. Jonathan, one of the owners, was also a pleasure to meet and also has a wealth of experience in the wine industry. I can’t wait to come back in the future and watch them grow and prosper in the process.

Wow!! Can’t say enough good things about this place. From the beautiful space. To the amazing food. Even better service!! 10/10 all around. I tried a few different things off the menu. Everything was delicious. Cocktails were great. The adobo lamb ribs, ribeye lomo saltado style, and tuna tiradito are a must try!!! Thank you Steven and the Nuyores team for a great experience. We will definitely be back!

I love Chef Oscar Lorenzzi’s new jewel of a restaurant. The food is delicious, with inventive takes on classic Peruvian fare. There is a wide range of fish and seafood, vegetables and meat dishes. The salmon crudo, yakisoba vongole and tuna antichuchera are favorites, but there are too many wonderful options to list. The wine program is equally strong, curated by Jonathan Charnay and offers something for everyone. The atmosphere is warm and convivial, making this an excellent choice for groups or for a lovely date night. Reservations recommended but walk-ins are welcome and the gorgeous bar is a fantastic place to enjoy a meal and a specialty cocktail.

Google
Authentic Peruvian food taken to a whole new level! Every single dish was spectacular. I couldn’t say which one was my favorite cause the taste of each plate was so unique. The restaurant interior is straight out of a movie scene. You feel like you’ve been transported back in time. Super intimate, the noise level has been perfected and the service is impeccable. Chef Oscar has created one of New Yorks new top tier restaurants. Highly recommended!

Google
We had an unforgettable meal at Nuyores. Every dish was packed with interesting and creative touches. Chef Oscar and his team have clearly worked hard to bring the best of Peru to New York City. The ceviche, salmon crudo, carrots, quinoa risotto-style, tuna, and duck were all extraordinary. We were recommended an Argentinian pinot noir to go with the meal, and not only was the pairing perfect, the wine service was personal (and not fussy). The staff could not have done more to make it a perfect evening. Highly recommend.

Google
You’ll never be treated better than by Chef Oscar and crew. Plates are beautiful *and* comforting and rich with flavor. Wish I could put the aji amarillo and cilantro sauces on everything. Pisco sour is delightful. I’m still thinking about the lomo saltado a week later. We had the yucca, carrots, and creamy quinoa and all were excellent. The space is chic and inviting. Brava Nuyores!

What a dinner! Nuyores is a home run. Everything we tried was vibrant & exciting. The lamb ribs were incredible. The cocktails are amazing. Hands down the best pisco sour I have ever had.

Yelp
Wow! Chef Oscar and his team are cooking up some of the most exciting food in NYC. Everything we tried was phenomenal. I started with a perfectly made pisco sour. Then we had ceviche, and if you know ceviche, you know that no one does it bette. We also were blown away by the cacio e pepe yucca, which was basically like a Peruvian poutine. So rich and comforting. For our mains, we had the lobster crispy rice, which is much more like a fried rice with pieces of lobster on top, pork belly and duck. The duck was my favorite. The balance between the crispy skin and tender flesh was just chef's kiss. We also tried the alfajores and chocolate flan desserts and both were excellent. The dishes are small so it does add up, but totally worth it for this quality of food. Accessibility: there is a small outdoor patio at street level. There are several steps going down into the restaurant. They have a portable ramp to get inside with a wheelchair, which I did not use. I didn't go inside, so can't comment on the bathroom. Staff are all super nice and helpful.

Yelp
Awesome find on a neighborhood street in Greenwich Village. Great selection of drinks and food, everything was fresh, and the vibe was cool.

Yelp
The ambiance is great and well decorated. Menu didn't have a lot of protein options and was heavy on starches. Only beef dish was $130, which seemed unreasonable considering we wanted to try other small dishes. They need to add something else to match the other menu items. Drinks were good but very expensive. We love Peruvian food and wanted to try but probably wouldn't go back.
