Nuyores - Review - Greenwich Village - New York - The Infatuation

"In the former Il Totano space in Greenwich Village, a former Contento chef is serving a Peruvian—and more broadly South American—dishes like tuna anticuchera with rocoto beurre blanc, and crispy pork belly in a sauce inspired by carapulcra, a traditional Andean stew with peanuts. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists. RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE" - Molly Fitzpatrick

Closed NYC Restaurant Gotham Bar and Grill Building Up for Sale | Eater NY

"A forthcoming restaurant from chef Oscar Lorenzzi taking over the former Il Totano space, the project aims to offer a New York–style spin on Peruvian cooking with most dishes priced under $30. Lorenzzi, who previously oversaw the kitchen at Contento (which closed amid a noted focus on accessibility), is positioning the new spot near Seventh Avenue to reflect his established Peruvian-influenced approach." - Emma Orlow

Authentic Peruvian food taken to a whole new level! Every single dish was spectacular. I couldn’t say which one was my favorite cause the taste of each plate was so unique. The restaurant interior is straight out of a movie scene. You feel like you’ve been transported back in time. Super intimate, the noise level has been perfected and the service is impeccable. Chef Oscar has created one of New Yorks new top tier restaurants. Highly recommended!

I went to Nuyores for their grand opening and had such a great experience! The staff was incredibly nice and welcoming from the moment we walked in. The space is well designed to accommodate everyone; they have large round tables that are perfect for big groups, but also plenty of regular tables for couples or smaller parties. They take reservations but also happily welcome walk-ins, which is a big plus. We went as a large group and ended up trying just about everything on the menu. Across the board, the standout appetizer was the watermelon tuna ceviche - so fresh and unique! And for the main course, the unanimous favorite was the tuna anticuchera. Absolutely incredible. I’ll be coming back just for that tuna alone. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Was one of the first to try this new Peruvian restaurant in the West Village/near Union Square. Blown away by the sauces on the Tiradito and they offered an excellent variety of seafood dishes & meat dishes. Washed it all down with the perfect Pisco Sour and finished with the Olive Oil cake which was flavorful and not overpowering. Can’t wait to come back to try the rest of the menu!

A 10 out of 10 experience at Nuyores. Delicious food, fresh and creatively made with over the top flavor and absolutely amazing service. Cozy and elevated experience! My absolute favorite was the Tuna Anticuchera and the Tiradito. Will try to come back every week! Congrats to Chef Lorenzzi and all the staff at Nuyores!

I am so excited to have Chef Oscar Lorenzzi's delicious Peruvian food again! An industry veteran previously at Contento (NYT best restaurants nyc), Marseilles, Nice Matin and Waverly Inn (just to name a few) will be opening in the heart of the West Village partnered with his somm equal - Jonathan Charnay, formerly of Masa. This South American power duo bring a Peruvian influenced menu and South American terroir focused wine list to 13th St. You're greeted by a fun mural upon entering, and the dining room is warm and inviting with neutral tones and Andean patterns. The more intimate bar room is cozy and comfortable. This is sure to become a go-to in the west village.

Checked this place out on Saturday. It’s amazing. Carrots - amazing. Tuna - amazing. Inventive/clever without being overwrought or stuffy. It has not been reviewed yet. Once it is, it’s going to blow up. Go now when you can still get a table.

I was very excited to go to this restaurant after seeing it on social media because I always go out to support new Peruvian businesses. The restaurant looks great both the front bar area and back dining room and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. So there are no complaints on the service and atmosphere. The food on the other hand is a different story. Nuyores has a small menu and my friends and I ordered the watermelon ceviche, ceviche classico, charred octopus, the crispy pork belly all to share. The one thing you have to be prepared for at this restaurant are their small servings sizes. The charred octopus is $29 and all you get (in our case) was one tentacle it wasn’t very big I have to say it was small to medium size. As for the taste of the octopus for me it was missing the char taste that I was expecting I think the sauce they put on top of it either masked the char or the tentacle was not charred enough. The watermelon ceviche which I feel was a semi decent serving size for $23 was lacking in flavor I was expecting something a bit more bold and vibrant in terms of taste but was left unsatisfied. The crispy pork belly at $24 was a strip that I estimate was 3 quarters of an inch thick and maybe 6 to 7 inches long. The flavor was good (better than the octopus) the carapulcra sauce and the tomatillo sala criollo paired well with the pork belly but there was no crispy crackling on the pork belly (that I noticed) it was crispy due to the searing of the pork belly. I felt that this dish would have benefited from a salt brine and if it was brined it should have brined longer and they should have found a way to introduce the crispy pork crackling to the dish. The Ceviche Classico at $28 was the only standout of what we ordered. You tasted freshness when you bit into the fish. The citrus flavor with crispy sweet potatoes and cancha, and sweet yellow corn paired perfectly. The serving size was decent not too small or too large. Overall the flavors of the dishes we had at Nuyores were mild, which is not typical of Peruvian food. Peruvian food has bold flavors that excite the palate Nuyores flavors from what I tasted are more mild and subtle (and there is nothing wrong with that if done correctly). I can tell that the head chef is trying to elevate Peruvian flavors but didn’t hit the mark with the dishes we had, except for the ceviche. But to be honest I can’t justify the cost of the dishes for the amount of food that is being served ($104 just food not including drinks, tax, or gratuity). If this is to be a tasting menu then it should be advertised as such and waiter needs to fully explain the menu and how to order. But if you are expecting a full meal by ordering an appetizer and main course then you will leave hungry. Will I return to this Nuyores? To be honest I don’t know, it’s a big maybe for me.
