Best Seafood in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Bostonian Pete DeCoste manages his own restaurant, making sure the North Park establishment lives up to New England standards for seafood, even keeping the checkered tablecloths seen at many dockside restaurants. The lobster roll is served chilled, Maine-style, with light mayonnaise. Try the crab rolls, clam chowder, shrimp po’ boy sandwich filled to the brim with Baja shrimp, and fish and chips made with flown-in Atlantic cod. DeCoste picks up the seafood himself at the airport three to four times a week, ensuring it’s as fresh as possible before he serves it at the restaurant." - Helen I. Hwang

Pete’s Seafood is the TRUTH. If you’re in San Diego and haven’t had their lobster roll, you’re playing yourself. Buttered, toasted bun. Chunky, fresh lobster. Perfection. We tried the fried clams too—solid flavor, but definitely heavy. Pro tip: stick with the lobster roll and pair it with fries or a lighter side so you’re not in a food coma. Staff? Super friendly—like actually want you to enjoy your meal. Parking’s a little tight, but if you slide over to Upas Street, you’re golden. 10/10. My friends and I are already planning our next visit. Pete’s, you’ve got lifers. 🦞🔥

Google
My favorite place if I want to indulge for lunch. It is pricey but so worth it for the quality. You will never leave this place still hungry. Every item is packed. Staff is friendly and helpful. There is no parking on the entire block. You will have to park on one of the surrounding streets. They have inside and outside (shaded) seating.

Google
Foods good. Lobster rolls are big but seem lacking at the same time. Fish and shrimp is lighty breaded and taste great. Tarter sauce heavy on the mayo but still good. The cocktail sauce wasn't the vest and tasted like rubber

Google
$29 for the lobster roll might sound pricey, but they definitely give you the whole lobsters worth of meat, wow! Same for the crab roll, lots of crab to be had. The calamari was super fresh and melt in your mouth, and the mozzarella pepper jack sticks were super hot. The marinara dipping sauce was also hot, which is a nice touch. For how attentive the server was, I wished the place was sit down rather than other up front. Not only could they have more tables in there if so, but I would have tipped better after the great meal and server compared to just the cashier up front.

Google
Low key seafood joint with great food and a relaxed atmosphere. One of the best lobster rolls I've ever had with big chunks of well buttered lobster meat in a soft bun with just the right crisp. Amazing fries to go with it. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Google
Casual local spot with food that punches way above its weight! The lobster roll is ridiculous. Amazing quality lobster. We also got the fried clams with onion rings and ate every last bite. Cannot recommend Pete’s enough if you want some Boston seafood flavor in a no frills, locals favorite spot.

Google
First time here was a couple days ago. It's a nice restaurant. Kinda tough to park as they took over the street for a bike lane. When we arrived we ordered and got our seat outside which was nice. There are options inside too. We ordered the fried mushrooms, which I loved. The tuna sandwich was delicious and a huge portion. The fish and shrimp were amazing. My boyfriend was a super fan of the shrimp and said he will be back for those specifically again. The manager was super friendly and courteous. We recommend going and enjoying some great seafood.

Google
The best lobster roll in San Diego! The quality is second to none, and they truly bring authentic Boston flavors to the West Coast. Excellent food, friendly service—and don’t miss the Shrimp Poboy and the onion rings’. I’m sure this is a place I’ll be coming back to often

Yelp
Drove down to San Diego on a Saturday afternoon with my husband to check this place out. I ordered the warm lobster roll, onion rings, and fried pickles. My husband had the shrimp po' boy and french fries. The lobster roll was amazing! My only complaint is that for $29, I expected a larger roll! However, the lobster was top notch! The roll was grilled to perfection, and you didn't need to add anything to the sandwich! The shrimp po' boy was equally good and well worth the price!! The fried pickles were cooked to perfection! They were lightly battered, not greasy, and packed a punch! I was disappointed with the onion rings. I ordered them based on previous comments, however, I won't order them again. I prefer my onion rings a bit on the chunky side. The rings tasted good, they were just not as thick as I prefer. The french fries were average. The place was packed when we arrived (1:00pm), but the wait was not long and the staff were attentive. They have seating at the bar, inside, and outside. They also have a kids menu, which is a plus for families with small kids. The portions (with the exception of the lobster roll) are generous. We will definitely return!

Yelp
Not sure what made me want to try this place, but we're glad we did. The food was flavorful and plenty of it. While it was a bit pricey, they offer an excellent discount to military/first responders, but it was worth every penny. Parking is an issue and there is also outside seating. You order as you come in and they bring it out. There was even a small bar which gave it a sporty vibe.

Yelp
Noted this restaurant on FB. There was a line on Friday. One couple in line drove from Menifee for the excellent offering of seafood, sides, beverages and desserts!! The food was prepared when ordered. Fresh and delicious. The shrimp and fresh plate were fresh and delicious As well as the abundant crab roll! On our list for a return visit. Small dining area, only shortfall. Enjoyed the friendly atmosphere.

Yelp
This was our second visit here. The first visit was over seven years ago. It's only about a 20 minute drive from my house but it's the parking situation that keeps us from being a regular. There is no street parking on either side of the street near this restaurant. We had to drive around a few times and this was at 2:30 in the afternoon so we were definitely after the lunch crowd and before the dinner crowd. We came for the warm lobster roll and the crab roll. The lobster roll is $29 and the crab roll is $24. There is a lot of lobster in the lobster roll, but the roll itself is not very big, that being said the lobster was delicious. There is more crab in the crab roll. The crab is mixed with a little bit of mayonnaise And this was also very good. I ordered mine with a side of fries and onion rings and there was plenty for my husband to share. And he did eat a lot of fries since the lobster roll wasn't very big. I enjoyed the onion rings which are house made. My husband also had a cup of clam chowder which had a decent amount of clams in it. Service was very friendly and we didn't have trouble finding a table at this time. They also have a small amount patio seating and they are dog friendly in the patio. Overall, we were happy with our food and hopefully we will return in less than 7 years.

Yelp
Came here for a per friendly spot. They have a small patio that to dine with your fur baby. I got your perfect order after trying so many things. Lobster roll with onion rings is a must! The lobster roll was so fresh! Onion rings were made perfectly where you can still taste the onion. It was a bit sweet which I liked! What I like about everything is it's all lightly battered. Service was actually great! I thought we had to get the food and bus the table ourselves but they came and got it for us!

Yelp
While I was excited to try this spot, the limited parking options was an initial drawback. The casual, order-at-the-counter setup was convenient, but I wish I'd had a chance to review the extensive menu beforehand. I opted for the haddock and chips. The fish was fresh, but I found it a bit bland for my taste. I prefer a bit more seasoning on my seafood. The clam chowder, though flavorful, was a bit too thin for my liking. The service was friendly and efficient, but the overall experience wasn't quite what I expected. While I wouldn't go out of my way to return, I might consider giving it another try if I'm in the area.

Yelp
Went in for a bite to eat, this place had no line and we were served right away. The staff were all down to earth and friendly. The lady who took our order recommended the cold lobster roll and we also got an oyster po boy. The restaurant was clean, had hand sanitizer at each table, and complimentary water in each room. Laid back coastal vibe. Full of happy customers and ample seating. The oyster po boy: pretty darn good, full of fried oysters, the bread was perfectly soft, the sauce was reminiscent of a Caesar dressing. I added a bit of salt, pepper and hot sauce. Chefs kiss. 7.5/10 The lobster roll: Oh, only the best lobster roll I've ever eaten! Omg so, so good. This baby was full of thick delicious chunks of sweet, cold lobster and topped off with warm rich butter. It was decadent to say the least. If I was made of money I would either be back here all the time or I'd order about 3 for one sitting. 11/10. I'm coming back with my mom. She's gonna go crazy for these lobster rolls too.

Yelp
First time visit. Wow. They know how to fry their stuff at the right temperature so that the fish stays juicy and the light batter coating it is not oily! And the fish is so fresh it has that elusive sweetness that other fish fry's fail to capture. Also the onion rings are the best--thinly sliced but with a crispy barely-there batter. So good. The fried shrimp was another pleasant surprise for the tastebuds. The lobster bisque was exceptionally buttery and creamy--and also had a lip smacking sweet freshness to it. No fishiness at all. Loved how friendly and enthusiastic all the staff were. Also liked the casual vibe of seat yourself tables. Could see why this is clearly a favorite among their regulars.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with a group of 6 and we were seated very quickly after ordering! The staff was super kind and attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. My crab roll came with a TOWER of crab meat. I was so excited. The crab meat was delicious and the bun was so buttery and toasty. The fish and chips were also very yummy. The breading on the fish was light and crispy, but not too greasy. A great balance!
google avatar

Yelp
The food here was pretty good and great portions, I liked how CHUNKY the clam chowder was. YUM. The staff was polite. It can be quite and endeavor to find parking, but it's worth the effort. There is table seating and bar seating. There is a small condiment and water station. What I disliked was that everything was single use. We make great efforts to frequent businesses that have reusable tableware.

Yelp
If you're reading this review cause you looking for a great spot for Lobster Rolls, just stop now and head over. This is how I rate my food experiences: 5 Stars - I would highly recommend. I would drive 30+ min to come back and would go out of my way to eat here 4 Stars - It was good. Would recommend people try it if they are in the area and craving this type of food. Would eat here again if I was in the area. 3 Stars - Food was average. Nothing great. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. If I was in the area, I would probably try a different spot. Would only come back if this was the only spot if open and under protest 2 Stars - Wouldn't recommend nor would I come back ever. Would actually contemplate asking for a refund. Probably didn't finish my food. This place is easily 5 stars. Customer service is friendly and gives that "small business, we love our customers and what we do" vibe. -Lobster Roll (warm)- the buttery lobster roll is hands down the best I have had in decades!... and I'm old. I've had amazing lobster rolls in New York and Hawaii, but this spot is now my favorite and everything will be compared to it. TONS of lobster, the bread is light and crispy, and although it looks small, it will fill you up. 5 stars -Lobster Roll (chill) - same bread and just like the warm one, tons of lobster. The difference is this one is cold and has mayo. Warm has butter. 5 stars -Clam Chowder - this was the only thing that didn't blow my mind, but it was a solid 4 stars. A little more clams & potatoes would make it better. But still good. -Fries & Onion Rings - the onions rings were the best I've had in a while. Thinner than normal and freshly breaded but not overly breaded. A nice surprise. 5 stars. The fries were light and crispy, I could use a bit more seasoning/salt but they were still really good. 4.5 stars on the fries. Over all would HIGHLY recommend and we are gonna try other stuff on the menu next time. I was eyeing the chicken parm and the owner said that too was delicious but it's hard to come here and not get the lobster rolls.

Yelp
I have been wanting to return to Pete's for some times now. I have heard so many good things coming out of Pete's since my first visit in 2015. I returned and had the Shrimp Po Boy and an order of onion rings. The shrimp po boy was terrific! The shrimp were not only plump and succulent, but that had a great crisp light flavorful breading. It was a simple breading, yet very effective. It's very important to note that Pete's only used quality wild shrimp, which is quite evident with the flavor and texture of the shrimp. The po boy came on a locally baked toasted Italian roll with shredded lettuce, freshly sliced tomatoes, and an amazing cajun remoulade made in house. It's a great sandwich. The order of onions were great, too. They had that same East Coast thin crisp batter. The onion inside were tasty with a touch natural sweetness. The order was definitely enough for sharing. Customer service was super friendly and welcoming. These are some proud folks, for good reason, too. This place offers plenty of inside and outside seating.

Yelp
Yes, Pete's lobster rolls are IMMACULATE, but don't sleep on his other entrees and sandwiches !! Let me tell you about them ! Today, we stopped by around opening time on a Sunday and got a table with a beautiful view outside . We placed our order and the food came out pretty quickly . CRAB ROLL is actually one of my favorites ! It's jammed packed with real crab meat that's lightly dressed in mayonnaise . It's such a simple and refreshing bite ! Highly recommend . Pro tip-- get it with ONION RINGS (thinly battered, crisp, and so delicate) and thank me later . REMOULADE SAUCE is made with over 15 different secret ingredients and can literally be used to dip with ANYTHING-- this is sooo fire . I know the CHICKEN PARM is amazing but, have you tried the DOUBLE CHICKEN PARM ?! This sandwich is mighty, THICCCK layer of mozzarella cheesiness, and sooo tasty . The chicken is flattened, yet still juicy --The batter is light and crisp . The HOMEMADE MARINARA is the star of the show, SOOO GOOD . Must try ! SHRIMP PO BOY really blew my tastebuds away . The shrimp are plump and plentiful . You can get it fried, grilled, or even with Cajun seasoning . It's served with that remoulade on the side-- make sure you drizzle it all over before sinking your teeth into this bad boy . Oh, and the bread is fluffy and so fresh ! Get the CALAMARI with cherry peppers-- you won't regret it . FISH AND SCALLOPS plate is another one of our favorites . You can really taste the fresh-catch-of-the-day and the seafood always hits . Light, flakey, and so tender . Last, but not least-- get the NAKED WINGS . They're brined for 48 hours and you can really taste the difference . The MANGO CHIPOTLE SAUCE is also super delicious and not too spicy ! These would be perfect for GAME DAY at the bar ! Overall, Pete's will always be a regular place for us . Service is always wonderful, food is top tier, and the atmosphere is so inviting . I highly recommend to all my friends and family .

Yelp
First things first... there are huge amounts of lobster in the lobster roll!! Worth it for the price. Super meaty lobster and a buttery bun.. a must try Crab roll was also good but tasted like a large California roll. Perhaps I can pass on this one Husband lovedddd the fried mushrooms, definitely something different that we don't normally see. The breading was great on this and kept the mushroom intact. Fries were also really good and crispy!

Yelp
I hav been craving a lobster roll and finally made to Pete's! The service is very welcoming and the decor would make you swear that you are on the east coast! I ordered a warm lobster roll with fries and a side of shrimp to go . I had my food within 5 minutes! It was hard to fight the urge to pull over and eat all of the food instantly with the fresh smell of seafood wafting through my car. I'm absolutely pleased with the order, it was delicious, authentic, and worth the trip. *One thing before I go... Zero parking because the entire front block is a red curb
google avatar

Yelp
Was told to go here for lobster rolls so that's what we did. Both of us cutting carbs so did them on lettuce wraps and that's honestly the way to go. Fries and coleslaw round it out. Both were delicious and we enjoyed our time on the patio. Service was fast and pleasant!
google avatar

Debra G.

Yelp
I love love, love the lobster roll, and the fried clam strips, and my husband loves the fish and chips. Everything in this place is the best.
google avatar

Jas P.

Yelp
I got the lobster roll with side of coleslaw and onion rings. The roll had tons of meat in it (which I hope they never change because that's def what makes them stand out!) also the onion rings were thin and super good. Five stars also for the service. The man greeted me so kindly which also is rare nowadays it seems. Ambiance was nice, clean spot and spacious but only bike lanes on that street so just gotta walk to park a bit.
google avatar

Ginger P.

Yelp
Returned to Pete's and remained impressed by the fish & chips. I got the grilled mango/chipotle shrimp and thought it was decent. The sauce wasn't very much to my liking, but it's more of a personal taste thing and I think many people would enjoy it. The shrimp itself is succulent and cooked just right. They allow you to double up on fries or get half fries/half onion rings for the side. Next time I want to try the chilled lobster roll. Pete's is a great casual local spot.
google avatar

Jenner B.

Yelp
I've been wanting to go here for quite some time. I have to say I was not disappointed. I ordered the Fish and Shrimp plate. Lightly battered fish and shrimp cooked perfectly. Not oily at all. It was light and flaky. Nice size portion with a lot of fries and the coleslaw was a good contrast to the fried food. I'm a sucker for coleslaw, it really made the meal. I also enjoyed the Tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. My wife ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana. She really enjoyed her sandwich. And it was pretty big so she had to take half home. I really appreciated our server saying that my order came with fries and her ordering more fries might be too much. Because it definitely was. In saying that, the service was awesome. The guy who took our order and brought our food was the nicest guy ever. Funny and very personable. I think it was Pete himself. Overall, it's a great spot for seafood. Ambiance is cozy and clean. I really like how they provide napkins, utensils and sauces on every table. Definitely a place i need to come back to so i can try their other offerings. Only gripe, is parking is horrible. Not in any means their fault.

Yelp
I have had this spot bookmarked for a while but just couldn't make it in during previous adventures in SD. After roaming around all day, I worked up an appetite and craving for some wholesome clam chowder -- so, that is exactly what I ordered during this visit. The restaurant is smaller but there is an outdoor dining area. Menu boards hang from the ceiling and you order with the host before sitting down. Aside from clam chowder on the menu, there are also salads and sandwiches including their famous Lobster rolls. The Clam Chowder has my endorsement! These guys have perfected the craft.
google avatar

Alan S.

Yelp
OK, I was a little skeptical because I've never been here and having this many good reviews was surprising for me, but I will tell you service was outstanding. The food was amazingly fresh and the prices were reasonable for what you're actually getting. This place got busy and I will say that we came at the right time. I will be back because I want to try the lobster roll and the crab roll because they all seem delicious. Did it ruin my diet yes absolutely. But the shrimp from the Poboy was so good and crunchy and fresh and what I loved about the bread is that it was not too thick. The hollandaise sauce on that sandwich was so delicious and rich only bounced out by the fresh lettuce, and tomato that come with it. All I got to say is pics.

Yelp
Order at the counter, and the food is brought to your table. Food: We are currently doing a tour of casual seafood places in San Diego. i would say that Pete's is #1 (with Mitch's Seafood, Blue Water, and Point Loma rounding out the rest of the list), and I definitely want to return again. I recommend that you try all the items I ordered below. Clam chowder bowl ($9): Perfectly salted. Creamy broth that was delicious in flavor, which made for the fact that it is not the heartiest clam chowder we've had in San Diego (In terms of clam content). Warm lobster roll ($20): Large meaty chunks of fresh tender lobster. Bread is fluffy and buttery. This is likely the best lobster roll we've ever had in terms of bun perfection, lobster quantity + quality, and price. I did wish there was more butter flavor to the lobster, although I know many would much prefer the natural flavor of the lobster to predominate, But I love butter on lobster and needed MORE. Maybe they could have provided a little extra cup of melted butter on the side. Fried clam strips plate ($26): Just the right amount of crisp batter coating. You can still clearly taste the clams, and they are tender (not at all rubbery). You don't need the tartar sauce to add flavor but it complements the clams well. We got free street parking 1/2 a block away on a residential street. We did not attempt to park closer because other reviews said nearby parking was difficult to find.

Yelp
Whole fries calms and fried oysters were dinner and they were fabulous. Love the food here and will return next time in SD. Parking is difficult but worth the hassle

Yelp
Definitely a big fan of their fish and chips , they even offer haddock which is very rare from what I have seen. Their lobster roll is also very good. Wish it wasn't so far from me else I'd be a more frequent customer.

Yelp
I can't believe it took me this long to try Pete's! Amazing quality seafood without totally breaking the bank. Pete's is open daily 11-8. He does often have daily specials. I tried their shrimp/fish seafood platter and a cold lobster roll. Everything was incredibly fresh and the seafood platter was piping hot as it should be. I can't wait to explore more of the menu.
google avatar

Cirwan S.

Yelp
If you want, amazing seafood, and a great vibe this is the place. Came here after following them on social media for a while. I started things out with a crab & lobster rolls came with onion rings and coleslaw. My wife got the po boy sandwich and she fell in love with it. We sat outside so we enjoyed the beautiful sun. We shared their wings and we got the mango chili flavor. So amazing. I talked to one of the employees about their wings and he said they are brined for 48 hours and are always fresh. The employee also mentioned their coleslaw was homemade and their onion rings and shrimp from the po boy sandwich are freshly battered in house! We went for lunch so we took a chicken Parmesan home, and it was so huge and yummy we were able to share! Definitely coming back here to try the rest of the menu !

Yelp
SAN DIEGO!!! IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN TO PETE'S YET.... GOOOOOO! Literally everything is amazing here. Food... Service... Chill atmosphere. This is THE SPOT! Park in the back from the alley. The lobster roll, the mango chipotle shrimp, the chicken parm sandwich... The DOUBLE parm sandwich, chicken and hot dog kids meals, The fried pickles and mozzarella sticks... Incredible. Tell Pete hello since he's working here with his people! 11/10 you NEED to come to Pete's!

Yelp
I stopped by Pete's expecting to have the best warm lobster roll of my life and was very disappointed. The roll felt like it could've been toasted and buttered more, the lobster was tough and lacked salt, and there was simply not enough butter drizzled on top. For $26, I think the price is about average for a lobster roll for areas with high cost of living. For the order of clam strips that we got, the clams were tender, the breading was light, and the included slaw was well made and not over dressed. However, the first clam I bit into had a massive piece of shell that almost wrecked my tooth. Chew with caution. The service here is friendly, seating is plentiful, and there's a TV in the back area streaming live sports.

Yelp
I've traveled/eaten throughout Maine, and Pete's lobster was just as amazing and fresh. You order and pay at the counter, and they bring your meal to you. Great and attentive service throughout my visit! Plenty of indoor and outdoor tables right on Upas St. The lobster sandwich meal comes either warm or chilled, with fries/slaw or chips/slaw. The lobster is lightly tossed in mayo, and the roll is SLATHERED in warm melted (YUMMY!) butter. The meal (sandwich plus two sides) and a soda can is about ~$35-40, which is to be expected for MKT lobster. It was so filling and satisfying, and well worth it.

Yelp
Another great experience at Petes. Lobster salad with AVO. Amazing food. Great atmosphere. Has parking which is rare for North Park. Love coming here.
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
One of the best (if not #1) lobster roll in SD in my opinion! My friends also ordered the crab roll and it came with a gratuitous amount of crustacean. I've been sleeping on this location since I always go to Modern Times, Smoking Goat, or Taco Stand nearby.... Service was friendly and efficient and there are plenty of seats to go around though accommodating a party larger than 6 at one table is going to be a little tough as none of the tables have that capability. We rolled in with a group of 8 and just used the higher table and stacked barstools. Also shout out to the onion rings as they make em thin here and I've never had it this way but really enjoy the crispiness with a lot less batter.
google avatar

Jillian B.

Yelp
Swung by recently to pick up some clam belly and fries after seeing some really positive reviews. Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark for me - everything was soggy after I picked it up even though I opened it within 10 minutes of picking up. Maybe it's best for dine in, or for other menu items?

Yelp
If you want a good taste of New England, here's a good spot! What a great eatery for fish & shrimp, mushrooms and good chowder! Perfectly seasoned and fried. We got a seating with no problem at about 4pm. Service was fast and friendly. And indoors/outdoors dining is available.

Wes T.

Yelp
Delicious food. Had ordered lobster rolls, shrimp and fish combo, clam chowder and all the condiments. Everything was good and staff were friendly. Will definitely order again.

Yelp
This place lives up to the hype. Pete's Seafood offers a variety fried seafood items and the standard crab rolls/ lobster rolls. Although the price is not the cheapest, the quality and portions make up for it! My mom got the fried oysters, clam chowder, fried pickles, crab roll. The crab roll was loaded with crab and the bread roll was nicely toasted and buttery. I liked the tartar sauce that came with the fried oysters. The serving portion of the fried pickles were massive! We had to take it to-go. Fried oysters were lightly battered and well seasoned. It was both of our favorite item here. Although it's not the best clam chowder I've ever had, it was pretty decent. We order at the counter and then grab a number to sit down. Service was very friendly and helpful. They checked up on us to ensure we had a nice dining experience. Ambiance was chill. We sat outside because the weather was nice and wanted to people watch. Overall, a nice spot if you're looking for a fast casual seafood spot.

Yelp
I ordered Pete's for takeout for dinner. I got the chilled lobster roll and thought it was really good! Lots of big chunks of lobster. My friend got the fish and shrimp plate. She said the fish and shrimp were both really great but the fries weren't very good, they were on the soggy side. We called in the order and it was ready within 15mins for pickup! There isn't much parking around. They have a small lot in the back, but it was full and being that the restaurant entrance is on 30th with no parking and a bike lane, it makes it difficult to stop by to pickup takeout. Other than parking, the pickup process was really quick and easy. Recommended for their high quality seafood!

Yelp
We came here on 9/1/2024 around 4:50pm and service was not great, we didn't felt welcomed, food was dropped off at our table rudely, no one cared to tell us where the condiments like lemons and sauce bar was, and the whole place was practically empty so I'm not sure why the service was off. The food was good but not enough for me to return. There's plenty of seafood options around.

Yelp
I had been craving a lobster roll for a LONG time and came across Pete's in the neighborhood! The lobster roll was delicious, cooked well and pretty hefty in terms of the amount of lobster loaded in there. My only qualms with my plate was that the potato salad and coleslaw were very under seasoned and kind of bland, granted they do give you a decent amount! We also got the clam chowder which was perfect for the chilly afternoon. It was buttery and hearty! A bit potato forward but it was very tasty! My fiance ordered the fish and chips and was sadly disappointed. We didn't enjoy the heavier breading and small pieces of fish. They did fill the plate with a lot of fries so we filled up on those for sure. For the most part we did enjoy the food and would go back with the exception of the fish and chips!

Yelp
A little gem of a seafood place, loved by locals and also evidently by people who drive from Los Angeles and beyond to enjoy the fresh seafood here. The seafood is flown in from New England and you can tell. My hot lobster roll was tender and flavorful, cooked just right on a toasted bun brushed with fresh dairy butter. My coleslaw and potato salad sides were clearly made fresh in-house. They both had a perfect balance of tangy and sweet, smooth and crunchy. It's a welcoming place and co-owner Norm in the Scottish cap below has an engraved plaque at his place at the counter. His cohort Pete is not only a terrific cook but a friendly guy who welcomes both regulars and newcomers like me. Wonderful restaurant.

Yelp
After visiting Balboa Park, we spotted this spot just a couple of miles away. We almost left when we saw the building was under construction and no parking nearby. Found a spot in a residential street and walked inside to a fast moving line and a few available seats. You order before you're seated and the gentleman taking our order was super friendly and helpful with ordering suggestions. We decided to try the warm lobster rolls with butter. We made one a combo with fries and coleslaw, which was more than enough for two people to share. The Lobster on the rolls were plentiiful, almost too much for the slice of bread to handle. Pretty delicious overall and I can see why they're popular. We also added the calamari, which I do not recommend. It was a big clumped up mess with some pieces tasting hard and some tender. The sauce that came with it tasted like pasta sauce and it just wasn't for me. Everything is pretty much self serve and there are a few tables outside that are available during construction. It was great to try, but this was a one time visit for me. It was a pricey lunch for a self serve spot.

Yelp
Pete's is a special place. As a seafood lover, you'll be on Cloud Nine. Everything I've tried is the best I've had in SD: Ipswich clams, lobster roll, lobster bisque, scallops, shrimp, calamari, fish, etc. For people who don't like seafood, there's fried mushrooms, cheese-sticks, chicken parm, etc. Everything is great. Everything is done right. Their breading is in-house. Even their freaking croutons are in-house. Portions are generous. Great value by today's standards. Also, everyone is in a good mood at Pete's...especially the other customers. It's funny how great food does that.

Yelp
First time I had a lobster roll was at Neptunes in Boston. When we returned to SD, we looked all over for a lobster roll comparable. Petes is definitely it. The warm lobster roll is absolutely fantastic. My wife and I frequent fairly often. I mentioned today we were there that I am glad it is a drive to get there. If they were closer to my home, I think I would spend far too much time there. Delicious food, welcoming staff, cant miss here!!

Yelp
Wow! Haven't had food this good since I went to Pikes Place in Seattle! These guys are the real deal! The amount of lobster you get for the price is exceptional! The claws melt in your mouth! Definitely recommend!

Yelp
The lobster roll was generous, featuring tender, succulent lobster meat dressed in a light butter that didn't overpower the seafood's natural sweetness. The crab roll was equally impressive, packed with fresh crab and a hint of seasoning, served on a perfectly toasted bun that added a nice crunch. The ambience at Pete Seafood is casual and welcoming, with a nautical theme that perfectly complements the seafood offerings. The decor is bright and airy, making it a pleasant spot to enjoy a meal. The service was excellent--our server was friendly and attentive, ensuring that we had everything we needed without being intrusive

Yelp
No frills East Coast seafood spot with friendly service. We hadn't gone in a while and recently returned on a weekend. Luckily, we went early enough and didn't have to wait for a table, and the food arrived very quickly. We enjoyed all the dishes we got, including fish & chips, clam chowder, and fried clams. All the food tasted fresh and arrived piping hot. Parking is difficult in the area, but once you're in, Pete's has plenty of seating inside to enjoy your fill of seafood!

Yelp
The store's neighbors were undergoing renovations so parking and the available seating was limited. There was a sign in the front that asked you to move your party along so that seating would be available to others. The menu had many different options but we went with the warm lobster roll, calamari, and clam chowder. Everything was rich and flavorful. The clam chowder had a hefty portion of clams and potato. The lobster roll was flavorful as well. The bread part didn't hold up to the amount of lobster so it broke apart quickly. There wasn't that much of decor around that screamed seafood restaurant and that's okay because the flavor of the food spoke for itself.
