The NYC Bar Hit List: Great New Bars In NYC

"Trying to choose a place to drink wine in Greenpoint gives us decision fatigue before we even get to the wine part. That’s why we like the neighborhood’s newest wine bar, Plus de Vin. The people at this super casual spot know a lot about natural wine, but they don’t make a big deal out of it. You order at the counter, coffee shop-style, from a rotating selection of bottles on display. Their sommelier is always nearby, jumping in to answer questions. If you’re not picky, just order the “wine on ice,” and she’ll pour you something chilled to take out on the shaded back patio. There’s food too, but it's not quite as exciting as the wine. Come here for pre-dinner drinks, and maybe a crab toast." - bryan kim, will hartman, willa moore, neha talreja, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah

NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"Forgive us if you’ve read this before, but Williamsburg has yet another natural wine bar with snacky, shareable food. Plus de Vin is owned by a husband-wife duo: the former is the chef/owner at Libertine (one of our Best New Restaurants of 2023), and the latter has worked in the wine programs at Estela and Frenchette. The new spot is counter service only." - will hartman

Plus de Vin Review - Greenpoint - New York - The Infatuation

"The people at Plus de Vin know a lot about natural wine. But they don’t make a big deal about it or anything. At the super casual Greenpoint wine bar, you order your wine and food at a counter up front, coffee shop-style. There’s no official wine list. Instead, the sommelier eavesdrops behind the cashier, jumping in to answer any questions about the rotating selection of bottles up front. There’s also a menu of small plates from a chef with ties to Libertine. The food isn’t as exciting as the wine selection (or anything at Libertine), so make dinner plans elsewhere, and come here for a drink and snack if you're in the neighborhood. They have a nice patio in the back with potted plants and tables under a shade structure. Food Rundown Wine The selection up front rotates, and there’s something for everyone. If you’re not picky, order the “wine on ice,” and the somm will hand you something that tastes good chilled. photo credit: Neha Talreja Peekytoe Crab Toast A chilled red or white is a superb pairing with this crab toast, which is our favorite of the small plates. The bread is just toasted enough, with a mix of cold, sweet crab meat and salty roe on top. It’s the one plate we’d come back for. photo credit: Neha Talreja Tartare There is eggplant mixed into the steak, but the flavors don’t quite work together. (And it’s annoying that you have to order bread separately). photo credit: Neha Talreja Country Pâté The pâté is a decent if unmemorable snack. Get this if you need something to pick at for a long time." - Neha Talreja

Plus de Vin Opens in Williamsburg From a Frenchette Alum - Eater NY

"Plus de Vin, a new Williamsburg wine bar, opens today, August 12 at 445 Graham Avenue, near Richardson Street. It comes from Carenn Mackinnon, an Estela and Frenchette alum, alongside her husband, Max Mackinnon (chef and partner at Libertine), and San Antonio restaurateur Chad Carey. (The bar operates independently from Libertine.) An opening menu lists chilled shrimp with herb sauce, pork rillettes, and Peekytoe crab toast with celery, horseradish, and trout roe. Hazelnut chocolate mousse is for dessert." - Emma Orlow

I hosted my engagement party at Plus de Vin and it was an absolute dream! The staff was kind and attentive and made sure that we had wine and food flowing the entire night. Our friends raved about the space. Working with Carenn was exceptional, from wine recommendations to logistics, she made sure that we had a great party. I cannot wait to be back!

plus de vin has officially become my favorite wine bar in brooklyn. the environment is the best - i could (and have) spend hours sitting in the backyard. the wine selection is great and the happy hour deals are awesome. the food is just as good - the shrimp and mushroom toast are my favorites. so glad this place opened up in williamsburg!

Update: I hosted my 30th birthday party at Plus de Vin and would do it over again! They have a covered back garden area with heaters so it was not bad at all in January. This was everything I could have dreamed for my party. We had a server coming in and out the entire time. Lucy was fantastic and very attentive! The patio was able to fit 40 people or so. I will continue to recommend the bread and butter, the best. Carenn (the owner) and her team at the best at PdV (Jan’25) New little local neighborhood (natural) wine bar. The aesthetic is absolutely beautiful. Neutral and classy. Was our first time going here and will definitely be coming back often. Each just ordered a glass of wine plus the bread and butter and olives but that butter was probably the best homemade butter I’ve ever had. The amount of olives we got in the order was a good amount. Super cute garden in the back. Reminded me of the cocktail bar “Zest” in Seoul. PDV is 10/10🍷 (Nov ‘24)

Nice wine, cozy backyard and ambience! I also had fries and shrimp which were good. The wine is pretty steep for glass and it’s bar service only, so I find it a little odd the recommended tips started at 20% when paying if you’re not getting table service.

Plus de Vin is a new Natural. wine bar in Williamsburg on the cusp of Greenpoint. Their take on list format (a wall of beautiful bottles) and fresh well thought out menu are a welcome addition to the world of Brooklyn wine bars. The staff was knowledgeable and thoughtful, this counter service concept comes across as cozy as any place in Brooklyn with table service. 10/10 will return with more people to try more bottles!

Honestly new favorite casual spot! They have a great backyard which I didn’t expect, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and the wine was really great. To top it off we ordered the fries and aioli…it’s like McDonald’s French fries but even better. I will be dreaming of these fries until the next time.

This place rules — a fun, finessed, contemporary NYC wine and snack joint without the heavy-handed pretentiousness of yesteryear. The wines range from fresh and accessible to classic and comforting. The food absolutely slaps. Those fries are insane: your nostalgic dream fry but like, with rosé! Or Beaujolais! Or beef tartare! The servers know their stuff, they’re kind, they’re fast. No notes.

lovely wine bar with a backyard garden that transports you out of Brooklyn. $40 bottles during happy hour, but reasonable options outside of that too. Didn’t eat, but looking forward to going back and trying their food!
