Portosole Review - Coral Gables - Miami - The Infatuation

"Coral Gables has almost as many fancy Italian restaurants as it does Italian street names. And if tableside service is your thing, Portosole is worth checking out. So many dishes here are served on carts that there are traffic jams between tables draped in freshly ironed white linen. Steaming cacio e pepe is twirled in a parmesan wheel to your left, while branzino is deboned to your right, and you can feel the flames on your neck as a server flambees the berries for someone’s panna cotta. Food is on the pricier side. That branzino is $140, and a big plate of figliata mozzarella is $64. So order things you can share. The branzino is supposed to be for two but easily feeds three, and the figliata can be split between four. Plus, there are plenty of freebies throughout dinner like big bread baskets, olives with sliced meats, and a plate of cookies after dessert." - Virginia Otazo

Google
Great dining experience. The Branzino was fantastic, as well as the other plates we enjoyed. The service was top notch, and they have a fabulous wine menu. Highly recommend.

Google
Traditional Northern Italian recipes, and extremely well executed. Well trained service, and well above-norm expensive. Alert: unfortunately, they automatically tack on a tip of 20% to the bill

We walked in an hour before closing, on a Tuesday as a last minute decision, and what a win. I have to compliment the staff on duty because they were so friendly and professional, we did not feel rushed at any moment. The food was outstanding and the wine recommendation on point, thank you so much Edgar- you rock! This is a fine dining establishment, so I would recommend to dress accordingly. Interestingly enough, we weren’t since we decided to have pasta in the spur of the moment. Even so, the staff was so professional and respectful, it speaks volumes of the place. I would definitely be back for the food, but the winner here was hospitality.

Google
Authentic and delicious! Beautiful space and impeccable service. The ravioli ossobucco and spaghetti al nerana were perfection. Try the tiramusu - it compares to some of the best I have had in Italy 🇮🇹

Google
Nice place, food well done and fresh although the menu has little options on pastas, the service is 5 stars, congrats on the impeccable clean bathroom.

Google
An authentic, gem of an Italian restaurant. If you want a meal bigger than the size of your head, order the veal! Also, the truffles are a must for the cacio e pepe. We ate every bite of the chocolate torta - might’ve even scraped the plate!

Google
Terrible Italian food. Pasta was tasteless and undercooked. I have been to several Italian restaurants in Miami and literally all of them tasted better. Giving 2 stars because service was nice, atmosphere was pleasant. Best tasting thing I had was the free bread they gave. I was deceived by the positive reviews.

Google
Excellent restaurant, from the ambiance to the service to the food. We tried the linguini al vongole with botarga and clams, the ravioli with funghi, the caccio ‘e peppe and the tomahawk. Every dish was better than the previous one.

Yelp
Probably my 2nd favorite italian place in Miami after Erba. All the pastas are really good especially the ravioli. Also HIGHLY Recommend their pistachio cake for dessert.

Yelp
Ok this is for my money the best Italian restaurant I've tried in Miami. The variety and creativity of dishes plus the quality of preparation and service are amazing. Some of my faves include the artichoke salad with parmesan crisps, the polpo alla genovese, and a must try is the pacherri di amalfi although the cacio y pepe is pretty outstanding too oh and the branzino is superb too. Finish it off with any of the desserts - the panna cotta is awesome and you totally have to do the scgroppino - like where else can you get that made table side?

Yelp
This was one of the best dinning experiences I have had in Miami in terms of service. The staff from the moment you walked in were so welcoming and attentive. The owner came by at the beginning of the meal to say hello so I was already excited to try the food. I was so happy they had a vegan appetizers which was fried artichoke hearts with lemon and a dipping sauce. It was delicious and for my main I was eating light so I had a the salad with beets. They also could have made another pasta dish for me as well. My friends ordered Ravioli Di Ossobuco allo Zafferano and the short rib ravioli all which were fantastic! The best part of the table-side lemon gelato dessert drink with Prosecco, vodka and topped off with coffee beans. They also made me a virgin drink. The only thing which would have made it better would be to have had another vegan main on the menu. But they said they would make whatever I wanted! Amazing restaurant

Yelp
I'm so excited to find this lovely Italian restaurant & add it to my favorites list! From the minute I walked in the door , I was greeted with friendly smiles all around! The restaurant is light open, and airy. A perfect ambiance for wine tasting & lunch with friends! The food is so delicious here! There were a group of us dining , so we had many appetizers, including burrata with heirloom tomatoes, crispy artichokes, prosciutto and paired these with La Scolca gavi dei gavi wine. Delicious It was really fun when they approached our table with a giant Parmesan wheel and prepared the linguine tableside! It was so good , I cannot wait to go back for this ASAP! I also saw that they had linguine alka vongole, which I'm excited to bring my husband back to try, because that's his favorite Italian dish. We all shared the branzino Fish, which may have been the best tasting branzino I've ever had and I have it quite often, here in Miami! The veal Milanese was also delicious. I truly can't say enough about my experience at this restaurant. I can't believe I've lived here for eight years and have never dined here before.?! It is definitely the best Italian restaurant in Coral Gables and I will be back often! I highly recommend this restaurant all around for food, ambience and great service and wine selection!

Yelp
I was in Miami during the Art Basel. Many places to choose, but this one was recommended by a local, wealthy Italian family. The experience was wonderful and everything I expected based on the recommendation. Service was great, received constant attention and conversation. The restaurant vibe was lovely and fun. And the wine and the food were amazing! Elegant, pricey, but the experience was worth it!

Yelp
My favorite Italian restaurant in Miami. The quality of the food is superb. Must try: Calamari Veal Milanese with rosemary roasted potatoes Cacio Pepe Vongole Tiramisu Homemade gelato Their espresso is magnificent Elegant ambiance. Service is terrific but I can't stand the fake Italian accents. IYKYK

Yelp
Everything was outstanding! The food, from beginning to end was top notch. The staff was more than accommodating and knowledgeable about their product. Looking g forward to another visit.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my dinner experience at Portosole. I opted for a simple spaghetti with red sauce and was pleasantly delighted with the flavors. Service was great and all of the starters ordered were great to share. It's a great date night restaurant or to meet up with your out of town friends.

Yelp
I don't usually rate 5 stars at Italian restaurants because being Italian myself I have very high standards and expectations on it. Nonetheless, this place definitely knew how to make authentic Eggplant Parmigiana and meatballs. It was all about the sauce really. The ambience of the restaurant felt like a nice romantic and authentic Italian restaurant. I highly recommend it over any other Italian restaurant in Coral Gables. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. He kept coming to our table to serve me wine. I was very impressed and would recommend this place 1000%.

Yelp
Absolutely the most spectacular Italian Cuisine in Miami, and we know Italian food! Lorenzo, the manager is a gem! We celebrate New Year pretty much every year in this place.

Yelp
Amazing place like you are in Italy amazing pasta definitely my fav Italian in coral gables

Yelp
The place is very nice, we loved the atmosphere they created, specially the lighting with some small golden lamps in every table, this lamps only project the light downwards and give the restaurant very comfortable and snug ambiance. The food was delicious, we were a party of four and everyone loved everything. We even ordered the Fritto appetizer twice! I ordered the Caccio e peppe pasta, which I new for the photographs of other people here was finished on top of the parmesan cheese, and it was actually my favorite even though we also ordered two lobster risottos - the risotto of the day, that day - it was excellent but what can I say, I love pasta! The desserts were finger licking scrumptious, specially the pistachio and mascarpone tart. Now, one of the most important things to make your night a memorable one is the service and it was spectacular! I do recommend everyone that loves Italian food to come here!

Denise Z.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. We all enjoyed are meals especially the pasta in the Parmesan bowl made table-side. Everything is very el dente and authentic Italian. Burrata and prosciutto delicious and very fresh Restaurant is beautiful! We will be back

Yelp
Miami is missing a lot of detail when it comes to Food & Service, this place has it all together! For a restaurant to execute excellent food & service on a holiday is hard, cheers to Portosole's staff for doing it so graceful!

Yelp
This is probably one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Miami. The hospitality is like no where else. They are so professional and well dressed. The food is delicious and I love all the different table side presentations you may experience throughout your meal. The raw seafood is so fresh and sweet. And the desert at the end was a palate changer.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for a taste of Italy or a reminder of a first hand Italian experience, please enjoy all that Portosole has to offer. The ambiance, service and food are wonderful. Our party was out to celebrate my birthday (my favorite day of the year) and they did not disappoint. We were greeted with a bottle of bubbly and some snacks that got us off to a great start. We then ordered calamari, burrata with prosciutto and eggplant to start. They were delicious and decadent. Benoit (our amazing server) suggested the seafood pasta and ohhhhhhh my word, it was amazing! I'm currently craving it again. The pasta was made Al dente (this is how it's supposed to be) and the flavors were made to perfection! Risotto of the day was mushroom and very yummy. The bass was great and so were the tuna salad, eggplant parmesan and pesto pasta were fantastic; all bowls licked clean. The manager, Mr. Ivan Degenarro, made sure the experience was unforgettable and it certainly was that and more. I can't wait to go back; we all loved it! Enjoy!

Yelp
Went to Portosole last weekend for a celebration dinner. Made sure to leave early because of their 15 minute cancellation policy. Downtown Coral Gables was a mess because of the festival unbeknown to us. We were 20 minutes late. Explained we've been driving around for 20 minutes searching desperately for a parking spot. The tall, handsome greeter was annoyed and not understanding. He was strident, critical, and totally unsympathetic. He had to know that the traffic and parking was difficult. Not an ounce of kindness. Needless to say, the interaction was upsetting. We left a little shaken up and went someplace where they were happy to see us. The restaurant industry is in flux. This cannot last.

Yelp
I love this restaurant. The management team is doing a really good job at maintaining an excellent level in food, service and ambiance. The restrooms are super clean and smell well with the candles and fresh roses. Thank you for a great experience and can't wait to be back!

Yelp
Came for a friends birthday and it was amazing! The food was delicious and our waiter was very nice and helped with great suggestions. We shared everything between the 3 of us. The prosciutto and artichokes, the white truffle risotto, and the branzino were all amazing. And the show you get at your table with it just adds to the experience. It's a bit pricey but worth it for special occasions. Parking was a little hard but they have valet which is always convenient.

Valentina L.

Yelp
Date night was extra special and food was incredible! It is an experience where the service is outstanding and ambience even more!

Kathleen B.

Yelp
This place came highly recommended. Sadly I am starving. The Ossobuco ravioli was prefect! The tuna was bland. The artichoke salad was bland. The steak was way overpriced for what was served and again lacked flavor. The pistachio dessert was amazing. Overall this place was a disappointment. Everything needed a bit more salt, spice, pepper or just more. Super sad!
google avatar

Onur D.

Yelp
I had dinner at this restaurant on a recommendation from Loews hotel. I had the sea bass, oven baked potatoes, gin and tonic (infused with anise and cloves). The food was excellent, the service was excellent, and the restaurant looked very nice as well. I would certainly come back here when I am back in the Miami/Coral Gables area again in the future.

Yelp
Good food but be careful ordering the specials. They are priced twice what similar dishes on the regular menu go for.

Luis A.

Yelp
Stay away!!! Our group party of 6. We had to wait 40 mins to be seated. The management was rude, not nice & arrogant! Our food took 28 mins to arrive, their strategy, push overpriced water and drink! The food was a disappointment to say the least. My truffle pasta was over cooked, the truffle oil used tasted horrible my wife's branziono fish was small portion. When I asked the waiter he said let me talk with the chef. His reply was those are our standard servings. Not to mention we were a group of 6. The Short rib ravioli for my father was also over cooked. I wines selection too over priced, not worth going to this place after the food quality, poor service and horrible arrogance from the manager. Plus too expensive for the food quality you get. stay Away!!!!
google avatar

Richard F.

Yelp
Disappointed. My wife and I have been 4 times. Food is good. Service not so much. Great Italian restaurants are a dime a dozen in Miami. For traditional Venetian cuisine try Tullio. Traditional Italian Fratellino and Luca Osteria.

Eddy R.

Yelp
This is our favorite Italian restaurant in Miami. They have the best pastas cooked al dente and to perfection every time. The host always makes us feel welcome with an Italian "Buona sera" and Benoit is our favorite server, although they are all fantastic. Great food menu and also a great selection of wines. We always bring our friends here if they haven't been!

A Florida M.

Yelp
This restaurant was excellent. The food was spectacular and the service was excellent. It's expensive but what isn't? You want excellent service in a beautiful atmosphere and spectacular food? You're going to pay for it but it's worth it.
google avatar

Denise A.

Yelp
Best Italian restaurant I've been too in a long time. Food was amazing service and ambiance was also great. Taking my boyfriend for his birthday this weekend. Can't wait!
google avatar

Kristina C.

Yelp
First the service was wonderful! Each and every staff member that served us was exceptional. We had the Branzino which was our favorite, the doversole, and the porterhouse which was huge and delicious! All came with organic vegetables that were very well seasoned and tasteful. I'd honestly recommend any of the items we tried! They have great alcohol selection and again the service was wonderful. I will definitely be returning soon!
google avatar

Sergio M.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Definitely worth visiting. It's generally very busy so reservations are highly recommended. In fact I do'n't give it a fifth star as the place is somewhat congested and loud although it still a physically attractive place.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
The food in the service was amazing. It's rare to go to a restaurant that values service and all the little things that most restaurants don't focus on. It's stood out. To start I had the Burrata and it was heavenly. The best I've ever had. A friend had the carpaccio that she said was solid. My wife had the Ravioli Di Ossobuco Allo Zafferano and it may have been the best dish we tried. I had the scampi special, which was delicious but there were only, four small prawns. They tasted like lobster but they were very small. Our friend had the Veal Chop, which was huge and delicious and his wife had the risotto with what looked like a carpaccio of the same prawns, and she couldn't stop talking about it. The restaurant was energetic but cozy enough.
google avatar

Anthony S.

Yelp
Small portions of high-end over-priced Italian food. A bit pretentious. Better to eat Italian food elsewhere, pay less, get more. Service is excellent here though.
google avatar

Chili P.

Yelp
The service was great and attentive, but the reason I gave it 3 stars was the price. The Cacio e Pepe was average, the Branzino was ok and the risotto wasn't great and adding truffle to the risotto added 3 (significant) figures to the entree. We ordered 3 bottles of wine and water was served (not complimentary, added 3 figures to the cost, which we did not order). Not one of our group of 8 thought anything special about their entree. It was also noisy because of the glass and the layout but we were celebrating. It is a small tight place and the waiters went out of their way to seat us without a reservation. It was a special day to celebrate so I wasn't going to make a fuss (truffle and water) and ruin the memory of that day. There are meals I will never forget (cost much less), but this was not one of them.
google avatar

Ana B.

Yelp
Came here a couple of months ago and I have to say the service was excellent. From being greeted at the door, to the servers being really attentive. The food was delicious, but I do feel like it's overpriced Compared to other italian restaurants in the area. However, if you're looking for a pretty, special occasion spot with amazing service then it's worth a try. As for dish recommendations, I'd recommend the meal Zane alla parmigiana, ravioli di ossobuco, and definitely the gelato (soooo good).
google avatar

Isabelle F.

Yelp
Fenomenal place! was my first time at this restaurant and I am sure coming back. The service and ambience were perfect. We decided to share plates and they had everything prepared for us. The baby artichokes salad is delicious !

Eduardo T.

Yelp
Had dinner last night at Portosole. The food is pretty decent however they must urgently install acoustic panels at the restaurant's ceiling. It is a horrible experience when you have more than 50 guests and waiters talking at the same time without any noise isolation. The entire dining experience is frustrating, you have to shout to your friends and to the waiters. Please fix that out of respect for your customers and employees who will suffer substantial hearing loss if they keep working under such terrible noise!
google avatar

Jana H.

Yelp
Killed it! Everything about this place was excellent! I am not a particular fan of Italian but I have to say that Portosole surpassed any and all of my expectations. Cocktails; wine; appetizers and mains were sublime. The pistachio tart was surprisingly good and I don't even like pistachio. It was my favourite flavour of the evening...imagine that...pistachio! My mind is blown

Yelp
Very disappointing experience just an hour ago. After having good times at this restaurant before, we just experienced something that never happened to us. We learnt what "rejection" means. Unfortunately, our kids experienced it first time. Our little ones (4 and 6 years old) wanted to go here and eat pasta so much: we went inside, there was only one table busy. All tables were available. A guy came and told us that we can't eat there due to the dress code. We thought it was a joke first: because we have been here several times before. Our kids were dressed up so well, Only I was wearing a flip flop due to the hot weather this afternoon. You need to have empathy in life. Our kids looked at him and us disappointed. While almost all of the tables available, why don't u let the family enjoy the experience. Definitely not an Italian restaurant. They love kids in Italy. A fake looking person came and kicked us out without empathy. I would recommend you not to go to this restaurant until they learn how to treat people and welcome them well.

M S.

Yelp
I couldn't tell you how the food is, but the service was subpar. You walk into, essentially, the middle of the restaurant. There is no vestibule to receive you, which is what is normal for a restaurant that requires pants and closed toe shoes. We stood there, waiting, all guests staring at us, no one approached or even looked at us. Finally, as I said, "I think i am just gonna leave," a waiter came up and said "the manager will be with you in a second." Strange that the manager has to seat you... Several minutes later, the manager, who was wearing a gaudy, tailored suit, approaches us and told we could sit outside, in the heat. I said that there were plenty of EMPTY tables inside, and we would like to sit inside. He said we could not because my sons and husband were wearing shorts (dressy shorts) and sandals. I was appalled. Embarrassed. And upset. He rudely shooed us away in front of everyone, in the middle of the restaurant, since they don't even have a reception area. It is Miami, it is hot, and this restaurant does NOT rise to the elegance and quality of restaurants that merit dress codes, like Fiola, et al. Look elsewhere. You'll blink and this one will be gone. Pig with lipstick. Typical, Miami, wanna be, but doesn't measure up. Check out long-standing Bugatti down the street, where we ended up going. I'll never come back to this "establishment."
google avatar

Nour I.

Yelp
This restaurant is a 10/10! Service and food are above and beyond any restaurant in Miami. A wonderful experience from start to finish. I can't wait to be back soon. Thank you.

Yelp
One of the best italian places in miami. Food is great and service outstanding. Highly recommend

Yelp
Delicious food with very good portions. They also had a good wine list and the ambiance was very chill. Recommended for a date night. Service was really good too. Everyone was very attentive.

Yelp
The best! Expensive but worth it. Excellent service, amazing food and elegant relax atmosphere. Love it
google avatar

Yelp
I love Portosole & have have always had great experiences, both dining in & ordering delivery. Unfortunately, in the last 2 months, I have tried to order delivery from Portosole FOUR (yes, 4!) times thru Grubhub & every time, my order has been cancelled after over an hour of waiting. If this restaurant cannot manage takeout, then they should simply remove themselves from delivery apps. It is so disappointing to wait a full hour for your food only to find out last minute that it won't be delivered. Now I'm starving, stuck on a work call & figuring out what else I should order for lunch :(
google avatar

Elena S.

Yelp
Fantastic! I had been there twice and this is my favorite Italian restaurant in Miami. The ambiance is warm, the food is authentic Italian, we start with octopus, they took us Parmesan and grissini with Prosciutto...so far so good. We had the chance to try many different things as cacio e Pepe, pesto sauce, spaghetti alla nerano , risotto with fresh truffle...everything everything was delicious. For dessert we had homemade gelato to die for. The staff is great, thank you for having us and made our experiences unforgettable! We'll be back soon Grazie Ivan e Antonio! Bravi

Yelp
Terrific venue for lunch or dinner, great service and food. Highly recommend it. @traveling.n.dining
