Japanese restaurant serving modern fare & sushi with beer, sake & cocktails in a stylish space.
"Like the now-defunct Wonderball, you never know what you’ll get at this small sushi restaurant—their fish offerings vary depending on what’s available that day, sometimes flying seafood in from Japan. Raisu’s omakase is fantastic, but their a la carte options are great for something more casual, with pieces starting as low as $2.50. The rolls are tasty (we like the omega maki with fried salmon and shrimp tempura), and so are the signature nigiri and sashimi. They come with interesting toppings (like shaved apple or fried garlic chips) that enhance the flavor of the fish." - john ringor, adrian kane
"Raisu is a small restaurant in Albany Park, and its fish offerings vary depending on what’s available that day. They have a $120 15-course omakase, ut a la carte is also a great option, with pieces starting at $2.50. If you’re into rolls, they have a few of those, too (the omega maki with fried salmon and shrimp tempura is great), and we’re big fans of their signature nigiri and sashimi. They come with delicate toppings (like shaved apple or fried garlic chips) that enhance the flavor of the fish." - adrian kane, john ringor, veda kilaru
"Oversized maki take a backseat to minimalist nigiri at Raisu, where chef Simon Liew uses some of the highest-quality fish in the city. The Irving Park restaurant’s modest dining room has a six-seat sushi counter dressed with hanging lanterns. Products, such as seasonal Hokkaido uni and botan ebi, are sourced weekly from Japan. Online ordering is available here." - Naomi Waxman, Eater Staff
"Good sushi can get pretty expensive. But Raisu, a small, low-key restaurant in Albany Park, has high-quality fish that’s still affordable. Focus on the nigiri and sashimi, and get a roll or two to share. There are non-sushi entrees available as well, in case someone in your group wants to go that route." - sam faye, adrian kane, john ringor
"This place definitely belongs in your sushi rotation. It’s a small, low-key restaurant in Albany Park, and its fish offerings vary depending on what’s been flown in that day. They have omakase starting at $75 as well as great a la carte options. If you’re into rolls, the Omega maki with fried salmon and shrimp tempura is pretty good, but we suggest going for the nigiri and sashimi instead. Make sure to try the tamago—it’s excellent." - sam faye, adrian kane, john ringor
