Flavorful Burmese cuisine including tea leaf salad & curries

"The Chelsea expansion of chef Myo Moe’s Burmese restaurant appears to have closed in July; the original Prospect Heights location shuttered in 2024 after opening this outpost in 2022." - Nadia Chaudhury
"Chef Myo Moe introduced the city to Burmese food seven years ago with pop-ups in Bushwick bars. The permanent location in Chelsea is brightly decorated with white tiles and walls, and big windows that create a sense of airiness. For an introduction to the food of Myanmar, consider the mohinga, a noodle soup made with lemongrass, turmeric, rice noodles, and fish." - Robert Sietsema

"This second location of Rangoon (the other being in Crown Heights) is a solid option if you’re around Chelsea and want Burmese food. It’s like a lot of casual neighborhood spots you head to on a weekday night when you realize you don’t have anything edible in your fridge. Most of the seating is in the long, narrow main dining room with fresh flowers on every table, and there’s a semi-private area downstairs that’s ideal for big groups. Dishes like crispy potatoes covered in tamarind split pea sauce and a tomato curry with seafood and balachaung are perfectly fine, but they’re not memorable. However, the rice noodles with chunks of fatty pork in a pungent rich broth is the one dish you’ll still be thinking about weeks from now." - Kenny Yang
"Opened a Chelsea location of the Burmese restaurant (which debuted in Crown Heights in February 2020) under chef Myo Moe." - Melissa McCart
"Critically acclaimed Crown Heights Burmese restaurant Rangoon, from chef Myo Moe and co-owner Daniel Bendjy, is expanding into Manhattan: I learned they signed a lease on a Chelsea spot at 158 Eighth Avenue at the corner of West 18th Street after a successful crowdfunding start, and they’re also aiming to open another Burmese restaurant (not called Rangoon) either late this year or in early 2022. Moe is keeping much of the menu under wraps, but I was told the food at the new Chelsea location will likely depart from the subtle curries and noodles that first put Rangoon on the map as she plans to explore more regional Burmese fare enabled by a much larger kitchen; early design plans include dividing the restaurant into five distinct dining areas, with three indoor areas and two in an outdoor backyard." - Erika Adams
