The 9 Must-Visit New Restaurants of Fall 2024 | Bon Appétit

"From a chef best known for Cantonese comfort food, this new project celebrates Malaysian and broader Southeast Asian cuisines in a bustling, checker-floored space modeled on Penang cafés. Diners can sample satay skewers, Malaysian fried chicken with nasi lemak, noodle dishes including Penang-style char kway teow stir-fried with lard, shrimp, and Chinese sausage, and lesser-seen snacks like kueh pie tee; a curated beverage list that includes sake, soju, beer, and wine will be offered to pair with the food." - ByKate Kassin

Rasa Rasa

"Potted plants are set nicely against a background of exposed brick walls and industrial accents here. On top of the short à la carte menu, the Nyonya combo set built around pandan nasi lemak with your choice of toppings is especially popular. The rice is plated on a banana leaf and topped with mildly hot homemade sambal. Another speciality is Siam bihun – turmeric rice vermicelli with shredded omelette and sauces. Round out the meal with tub tim krob." - Michelin Inspector

Just had the most amazing Malaysian meal and I’m still thinking about it! Every single thing on the plate was packed with flavor the sambal had the perfect kick, the fried egg was cooked to perfection, and the rendang Melt-in-your-mouth good. Even the little sides like the crunchy anchovies and fresh veggies brought the whole dish to life. I swear, I was mentally applauding every bite. If you haven’t tried this yet, you’re seriously missing out!

Taste mediocre for Penangite. Nasi Lemak rice texture needs improvement, not so much fragrance. However the accompanying dishes such as curry chicken, ikan bilis and peanuts are quite nice. Weird thing to note for set of eggs with kaya toast, they actually put the egg on the bread, and to separate them you need to pay individually for both items, which cost more lol.

Cute shop in George Town connected to many other cafes in their back alley. Food is decent. Curry chicken does run out pretty fast. We were there over the festive season and they struggled to serve with the volume. Family run business, servers are the older generation who do need more time with customer orders, so do go in with a bit more patience 🙂

The environment is very nice. The old furnitures let me think of the time of childhood. The foods and desserts are good. Suitable to have time with friends and family.

The sambal chicken is well-marinated and neither too salty nor too spicy. It is tender and pairs well with the fried bihun, creating a delicious combination. The Thai milk tea is good and not overly sweet, unlike the ones we had in Thailand. It’s highly recommended for those who enjoy milk tea with moderate sweetness. This cafe is a great spot to visit if you're craving Nyonya food. I’ll definitely return to try other dishes, such as curry chicken nasi lemak, and I hope they live up to expectations.

I was fortunate enough to taste the curry chicken with bihun , and the flavor was truly amazing! The curry and the thick and mellow coconut milk blend perfectly, and the bihun are chewy and smooth. Every bite is filled with the charm of Southeast Asia. Apart from the main dish, the bali drinks here also left a deep impression on me. It's not just ordinary bali water; it has a unique flavor, refreshing and thirst-quenching, forming a great balance with the rich curry, leaving a lasting aftertaste. If I had to offer a small suggestion, it would be that if the fried egg served as a side could be replaced with a sunny-side-up egg, it would add even more layers of flavor to this bihun. Overall, this was an excellent dining experience. I highly recommend everyone to come and try it!

A Nyonya-style nasi lemak is absolutely delicious—it's no surprise it's Michelin-recommended. The curry chicken nasi lemak is flavorful, and the cuttlefish is nice and tender. However, the Penang white coffee isn’t to my taste; I prefer the Ipoh-style white coffee, which has a richer, smoother profile.

Verdict: I like the Fried Beehoon. I will come back for that. Food: + Fried Beehoon (9/10): The turmeric flavour is special and delicious. + Nasi Lemak with Pan Fried Chicken (6/10): The nasi lemak taste good, but the chicken was overseasoned. + Red Ruby (dessert) (10/10): Taste good, not too sweet. + Black Glutinous Rice (dessert) (9/10): Delicious with subtly sweetness. Service: The service was great and friendly. Environment: The restaurant is small and packed but nicely decorated.
