The Best Restaurants in Richmond, Virginia | Eater DC

"Named one of Esquire’s best new restaurants in 2020, this Basque-influenced restaurant known for seafood and hard-to-find, easy-to-enjoy natural wines recently relocated to sexy new digs in Richmond’s Oregon Hill neighborhood. Chef Randall Doetzer uses garlic and paprika-tinged sauces to enhance seafood dishes." - Stephanie Ganz

Someone Please Stop Me From Eating All the Gildas at Adarra | Bon Appétit

"At this Richmond bar the gildas — the iconic Spanish skewers of fat white anchovy, pickled guindilla pepper, and a briny green olive — are a standout, typically accompanied by a glass of Emilio Hidalgo fino sherry. Chef Randall Doetzer has dialed them into a perfectly salty, buttery, lip-tinglingly sour, and slightly spicy bite by constantly tinkering with the three elements to achieve the right balance of fat, acid, and salt. Because the olives, peppers, and tinned anchovies are seasonal or depend on importers, he regularly swaps varieties (about three kinds of peppers, four kinds of olives, and two anchovy types since the dish debuted a few months ago), and the ongoing hunt for new ingredients is treated as part of the fun rather than a chore. The reviewer and a companion polished off six skewers and wished they had ordered many more." - ByElyse Inamine

Basque-inspired plates and a standout natural wine program from Randall and Lyne Doetzer. Acclaimed by Esquire and local critics, it recently unveiled an elegant new home in the former Mamma Zu space.

Tucked away in Richmond, Adarra delivers an unforgettable dining experience that blends warm hospitality with a menu designed to impress. From the moment we walked in, we were met with a welcoming atmosphere, setting the tone for an evening of outstanding food and service. Our server, Lily, was exceptional, she was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the dishes, making our experience even more enjoyable. We started with the three-cheese plate, which came with crackers and their house made blood orange marmalade and honey. All of which was delicious and an excellent way to start the night. The octopus and potatoes were a standout, perfectly tender with a smoky char that balanced beautifully with the richness of the potatoes. My favorite dish of the evening. The pork belly and beans brought deep, comforting flavors, with the pork belly’s crisp edges giving way to melt-in-your-mouth decadence. The prawns and bisque were another highlight, plump, succulent prawns bathed in a velvety bisque that was pure indulgence. To finish, the cheesecake was delicious, light yet luscious, with just the right touch of sweetness. Beyond the incredible food, Adarra’s cozy ambiance and welcoming staff make it a must-visit. Whether you’re a Richmond local or just passing through, this restaurant is a culinary destination worth experiencing. We’ll definitely be back!

You know how it feels when everything comes together to create the perfect experience? That’s Adarra. We had a glorious evening in their warm and inviting space. Great vibe, made even better by the on point service. Thank you, Lillie and Lyne! Interesting and international selection of wines, curated by Lyne. Our group tried almost every dish on the menu - and remarkably zero disappointments. You absolutely can’t miss the pintxo appetizer - delightfully spicy pickled taste treats on a skewer, with a side shot of Sherry. Amazing. The whole trout was cooked to perfection, which is not the norm for most places. They will debone at the table for you, but of course we did it ourselves for our (and Lillie’s) entertainment. The giant prawns were outstanding, also prepared flawlessly. Get the Basque cheesecake for dessert - subtle flavor, great consistency. Adarra is among the best restaurants in richmond - exceptional atmosphere, service and food. We will definitely be back!

We went there for our anniversary and they were amazing. The food has to be one of the best in Richmond! I don’t think you could go wrong with anything on the menu! They even offered us a free dish for our celebration. We had a later reservation which worked out for the better because there were less people (and less noise). It’s a small space, so it can get a bit loud when it’s full. Highly recommend if you’re looking for some upscale food!

We got a reservation at their new location in Oregon Hill. The property is very beautiful. You might want to get there a little early to find parking because the parking lot is for deliveries. Only we wish there was a little bit more explanation of the menu it is shared plates. The serving staff was very professional. Some of our favorite dishes were the non-meat dishes, including the carrots and the beet salad without at least two of the dishes were a little bit too similar for our taste, but still had a very good taste. We should just go with several people so you can try more dishes.

Richmond's food scene has really been improving, and you can find hidden gems in the neighborhood that is out of the way. This is a great place if you enjoy seafood and tapas. a lot of anchovy dishes and variety of seafood. it's a bit of over priced but the quality of food is amazing. the service is top notch. the razor clam appetizer taste fresh, just the portion is a little small. my favorite is shrimp , great flavor and the shrimp taste really fresh. the otopus is very tender and mix well with the white beans in the bottom. crab risotto has great flavor just a little bit too salty. the lamb paella can avoid, it's overpowered by the amount of parsley.

Amazing atmosphere. The cocktail and wine list worked well with the menu. The fire/smoke used when cooking is thoughtfully incorporated into the menu.

The new location is spectacular. Loved the prawns dish. Cocktails were well made. 👌 loved the octopus and potatoes dish. Savory dish with octopus cooked soft not rubbery and dry like most places. They take pride in the details of the culinary experience, which is very much appreciated where the dollar is tight these days.

The food is wildly over priced with a super limited menu. We had the cheeseboard, lamb and sausage dishes . The cheese board for 3 cheeses was about $21 and offered with basic crackers, honey and a house mix spread - very very basic and underwhelming. The sausage dish was the best of the lot but again, fairly plain and basic flavors. If you've had Dinamos sausage dish just up the street, you'd find this one mediocre but passable. The lamb dish was flavorful when tasted all together, but overall, quite an overpriced dish for the quality and flavor. There was at most 4oz of meat and the dish was $58? Nothing here ever made you say "oh you need to taste this"! The service was top notch. The house wine was ok. The environment was that of an upscale hotel. Nice, but lacking soul and that theme carried through. All and all the meal was around $200 for 2 people and it just is not on par with any of the higher end restaurants in the city.
